Hey Again, i posted yesterday about not being able to transfer info from my old HDD on to my new PC...
Basically ive connected the HDD via an IDE wire that plugs into the USB.... The 'found new hardware' pops up to tell me its been found however after it says its installed and ready to use, i cant find it....what should happen is that window should pop up saying what would you like to do with it (open to view files, play etc....)
So ive done a search for it and cant find it anywhere....it should really be under the hardware logo in my computer but its not...
So what i did was click on the 'safely remove hardware' tab to see if i could find its location... Apparently its in Location 0...??
Does anyone know where this is and how i can get to my files...?
Any help would be Mucho Appreciated...

Open My Computer and the drive should appear as removable disk and have its own drive letter (E:, F: etc.).0

Is it listed in Device Manager?0

Make sure the drive is set to Master, not Slave. There should be a little plastic 'jumper' next to the IDE socket on the back of the drive which you can use to set it to Master.
Also, which USB port are you using? On some computers the front USB ports don't work for external drives and you have to use a port on the back of the computer.0

Hmmm, well ive gone into My Computer again and under my current HDD in C drive its showing up as a device.... its set as a 'y' (with 2 dots above it...
I also cant see any 'little plastic 'jumper'' on the HDD...0

Ive just unplugged it and put it back in and when i look under the 'remove hardware' its under 'USB MASS STORAGE DEVICE' and it called 'USB device'... when i click on all the USB devices in my computer it says theyre all empty.... ARRGGHHH 0 0

so it is now showing as a drive?
in between the IDE cable and the power cable there should be 4 sets of pins in a line, then there should be some pictures somewhere on the drive showing what the jumper settings should be on the pins to set it as master/slave etc.

go to your start menu, right click on 'My computer' then choose Manage
Choose storage, then Disk Management, what discs does it say you have in the lower half of teh screen i.e. Disk 0, Disk 1, Disk 2 etc. and what does it say about them0

Rite, i see where that little part is now...what exactly do i do with it..?0

Done that, in DISC 0 it has my current HDD (c:) and its healthy and also in that is the HP RECOVERY which is healthy,
 Then,
 Underneath it has NEW_VOLUME (D:) healthy....0
