Good luck your problems might be just starting.
Had you read all this thread, you would have found that your fraud is now a non crime, and has to be reported to your bank.
    It happened to me.
I too tracked down the address of the fraudster, but these people are cute - you might well find that it is an empty flat where the caretaker has done a deal to take in parcels.
He/she might not even know that those nice people who bung him the price of a drink, are in fact criminals.
As someone who has worked for a company trading with India, I know that faking data is a way of life out there. I use the term faking instead of fraud as dealing with bureaucracy means one has to tell "white lies" to get things done. Unfortunately, like bankers making sub prime loans, white lies soon turn into outright fraud. Eventually everyone is in on the act, just ask your MP.
This is the Serpico Syndrome, named after the New York cop who blew the whistle on police corruption, only to learn just how bad the problem really was. ...
Fraud and corruption has brought low our economy, enjoy the recession and living in a debt ridden country for the next generation.

    Here is my experience:

Good luck you might need it.

BBC Radio 4 "You and Yours" reviewed the latest techniques at lunch time today.:
    Smishing: phishing by text message.
Vishing: breaking into your telephone call to your bank by using VOIP techniques.

Confused? Try "listen again". This link worked for me but you may need to go via the Radio 4 web site.

You and Yours today is all about liability shift for Chip & PIN fraud victims.

The Financial Ombusdman Service is finding in favour of Card Issuers withouth furnishing victims with evidence of their 'alleged' negligence (or carelessness) with their PIN.

You can listen again here (when it becomes available). The article is towards the end of the broadcast.

I can't take people moaning about "liability shift" very seriously.

If it is a card and PIN which you have had for a reasonable length of time, the chances of the card having been cloned and the PIN stolen within the bank are tiny.

Any occasion where the card is cloned and the PIN stolen after it left the bank are surely down to the card holder, not the bank.

People have to take some responsibility for their own actions in life. If you leave your card and PIN lying around the house, so your kids/spouse/granny uses it without your consent, then it's your fault. If you let someone shoulder surf you and THEN have your card stolen, it's your fault. Why should banks bear this cost?

An 80 year-old had his wallet stolen, went home immediately and cancelled his cards.

Too late, someone had used his PO Card to withdraw £30. The PO didn't want to know, insisting he had written down his PIN.

Then the press got involved and he had his £30 returned.

So much for the Banking Code!

I think you'll find they said gesture, no change of stance on how the incident occured, and lets face it, with chip & pin, it probably was pin verified

I don't think I would "chat" to anyone on a web site about credit cards.
  • I received a call from credit card provider at the weekend asking me if I had made various transactions with my card over the last few days. I got quite a shock as this had never happened to me before, I'm always careful, using credit card on Paypal and never in ATMs or for petrol. One transaction was for £900 for furniture! Some were abroad (USA)... They're sending me out a form detailing the transactions, to sign and return. I hope they're not going to hold me liable  I did use the card online early last week with an online pharmacy I hadn't used before (but I checked they're a legitimate pharmacy), the pharmacy it turns out, hasn't taken my payment and my item therefore hasn't turned up. They've asked me to resubmit my order with card details and I've put them in the picture that I think someone using their website may be the missing link in recent fraudulent transactions as I haven't used my card for a very long time and it seems rather a bit coincidence that the fraud started happening within 24 hours of my using their site. I won't be using them again, that's for sure.
