Packed lunch getting nicked

Children who steal aren't always just doing it for the sake of it. Sometimes there are children who have experienced things in their life that they should never have experienced and unfortunately stealing food may be a result of this. I have experienced this first hand at work and it can be very difficult to deal with. I can guarantee that the staff in the school know exactly who is doing it.
With regards to diet, I have seen many varied diets provided by parents, blue lollies, pot noodle for breakfast. My school tries to encourage healthy eating but we don't tell parents what to do. On the other hand my daughter's school tells us what we are and aren't allowed to include . My daughter is a nightmare for eating lunch and I would look like a really bad parent (same lunch every day for a year). I would never preach to a parent as my diet is not perfect. Some children look like they have a fantastic lunch but they could go home and eat unhealthy food all evening.0 -

Ooooh, I really want some crisps now! :rotfl:
While it may be true that it's the treats in the lunchbox that the thief is after, not putting them in would just mean that they steal from someone else instead. It might just be that packaged treats are easier to sneak out of the lunchbox than a bulky sandwich, without anyone seeing. In the short term I think that putting the things inside another plastic box inside the lunchbox will protect cheepskate's child from it being his lunch that gets stolen.
School should either keep the lunchboxes safe, or ideally find out who the thief is and have a word.
If these kids are 11 and 12 years I'm guessing that pretty soon they are going to have to provide money to buy their lunch at big school. I'd want the thief dealt with before it got to that stage.52% tight0 -

That flavour in our house always gets left till last unless visitors eat them. I tend to avoid multi bags with that flavour in. If stuck with a packet or so i'll do a pasta bake and use them for a crunchy top.0

Sorry OP you've been hijacked.0

I am with the OP on this count - this stealing is dreadful and needs sorting out
- I do think some schools/lunch time assistants are overzealous though - my great niece was in floods of tears last week because she didn't get a healthy lunch box sticker because they are not allowed FRIED snacks in their lunch box ( fair enough)
but what heinous item did my niece pack for her daughter that was so awful she missed out on her sticker??
a packet of mini cheddars - which state quite clearly on the packet
BAKED MINI CHEDDARS
NO ARTIFICAL COLOURS
NO ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS
MADE WITH REAL CHEESE
these were in the lunch box along with wholemeal roll with tuna and cucumber
hummous, black olives and carrot sticks
hmmm shame they didn't teach the lunch time assistants to READ - then they would know the cheddars weren't fried!!!
as an aside, it's just as well the lunch box police weren't around when my sons were at primary school, eldest has ASD and would ONLY eat jam or ham sandwiches and a penguin for lunch
EVERY day !!!!!!!!!!!!
he's grown up very healthily really and does now eat a varied range of foods although never anything in the potato line ( including crisps & chips) and hardly ever any vegetables
he does eat fruit- but maybe once a week we can get him to eat some sweetcorn and cucumber
and thats it !0 -

Cheepskate, same thing happened to ds in year 5. He mentioned it to the teacher who did nothing so I went on my first and only visit to the head. She was a lovely stand in Aussie Headmistress and got down on my son's level and said "sweetheart, no one has a right to steal your chips" and promptly went to the class and gave them a lecture/ warning and it hasn't happened since. Quick and effective. I too felt a duty to the child who was stealing at age 9 to get it nipped in the bud before it became ingrained in them.
My kids have a balanced lunch box but with one treat and that is not always a processed calorie laden food and that is it. I had a mother who was very, very controlling over food ( both by over and under feeding) and I had a serious eating disorder from the age of 12, which I hold her responsible for, so I try very hard to keep a relaxed, everything in moderation attitude to food around my children but really have no strong opinions on other people's food choices for their children.0
