If you honestly think that primary school aged children can't be expected to understand what constitutes theft then you are quite deluded!

I think that really depends on the child (as they all develop at different speeds), and what has been taught at home.

If they've always helped themselves to food at home in the past, and taken food from other's plates freely and without consequence, they may not consider it stealing at all.

I'm sure the issue will be dealt with appropriately by the school anyway, as the OP has already updated us on that (and thankfully no laxatives were used!).

    Exactly!

There are far more things to be concerned about than a choccie bar and a bag of crisps as part of a balanced healthy weight child!

I genuinely don't understand that comment. Crisps and chocolate are pretty big concerns when you're looking at being healthy, especially when they're making up such a large part of one meal?

It's 129 calories in a 25g serving of walkers . So more like 185 in a bag which is 35g or more, with 12g of fat and half a gram of salt.

I just think it's the easiest meal of the day to omit the bad stuff from. Five bags of crisps and five chocolate bars over the course of a week, without all the other treats that you can't decline, like the grandparents and children's parties etc, ends up being way too much. Along with a simple treat that you might want to let them have 'just because'. It all adds up. So not to say that kids aren't entitled, but it isn't 'a' chocolate or 'a' bag of crisps that I'm talking about. I think it's something we all have to fight with every day, it does add up pretty quickly.

And OP, it's not meant to be a vilification of you at all, I don't know what your kids eat the rest of the time, it's just that I know it's hard to say no to my kids at other times. So for me, much easier to ensure that lunch is a meal which they enjoy but that doesn't contain 'treats'. BTW, they don't have celery and carrot sticks, I make larger amounts of pasta salad, sandwiches etc. to fill them up with proper food. It wasn't OT because it does help with the thieving issue and it ensures your kid gets something to eat. I never said the thieving wasn't a problem, but sometimes you can think outside the box and it's actually beneficial.

And to the ladies that laugh at me, I pointed out where you contradicted yourself. If you don't have an opinion on what goes in a lunchbox, or people don't anger you, there's no need to waste your time talking about it, nor is there any need to waste your time talking to me or about me, thanks.

I'm aware people may think of me as a carrot cruncher for this, but I actually adore munching on raw (or cooked) carrots and red peppers, preferably with a red pepper houmous dip! Nom, nom, nom, nom. Oh, and cucumber.

Doesn't mean I don't love munching on crisps though. I actually have quite an obsession with S&V crisps, which is only kept under control so well because they are expensive/difficult to get here! I'm certainly no angel!

Dat klopt. (That's right/That's correct - sorry, just returned from a Ducth lesson! lol)

Paprika flavoured crisps are alright, but not great. Would rather have no crisps than eat them to be honest. Although, they are far better than Bolognese flavoured crisps! *shudders*
