I preordered something from Amazon earlier this year. Last month Amazon said it was going to be delivered a day before I was going on holiday (a Thursday).

On the Wednesday, the item arrived in my local depot ready to be delivered. On the Thursday, I expected the parcel to be out for delivery but it wasn't and when I phoned, they said it would be delivered the following Tuesday. (Friday and Monday were bank holidays).

I told them there is no point as I was going away for 2 weeks and they should only attempt to deliver then. She said she would make a note of it. My partner phoned to try to get them to deliver that day as they weren't being very helpful to me and we really wanted it. They didn't even have the note on the system about not delivering until after we got back.

My partner phoned Amazon and they cancelled the delivery and sent us a new one with another company to another address we were staying at for a couple of days. HDNL were supposed to send back the parcel but they delivered it on the Tuesday. Luckily it fit through the letterbox as otherwise it probably would have stayed outside by the front door until either someone stole it or we got back 1 1/2 weeks later.

Waiting for a £500 laptop and the driver could not find access to the building ... i.e; use an intercomms, so did njot bother. ALWAYS HAVE PROBLEMS WITH HDNL where I find the other tend to make more effort. I know if you read the job oard here they pay there drivers peanuts and the drivers have no motivation to hand around to ensure delivery ... but why Sainsburys insist on using them is awful. Will not order from Sainsburys again as I refuse to use HDNL when I have the choice and the nearest store for click and collect is 30 minutes away.

What a joke - BOYCOTT:AVOID HDNL at all cost, as you will waste days waiting . especially if you do not live in a house with a normal front door and a big number sign, and a big door bell to press

HDNL & DHL have been interchangeable here for a long time. Seems to me like it will be DHL dropping their standards to the level of HDNL but hope it is vice-versa.

You're probably right, but its not a long drop!!

This company is a joke! I have been waiting in for 3 days now for a parcel h they say they can't deliver due to no access at property! I live in a block of flats which has a buzzer for my apartment number clearly labeled. I even left a note for the driver yesterday explaining to push the buzzer to get in and they still didn't bother. No card, no explanation, nothing!
When I phoned customer services last night to find out what was going on they were very very rude to me. The woman kept cutting me off and talking to me like I was a halfwit! I will not be ordering from little woods again unless they change their delivery people.

HDNL have bought DHL Domestic, which was the old Securicor Omega Parcels, not to be confused with the 2real;" DHL International and Sameday which are completely different animals, and should not be compared to the "other!" DHL, and rebranded it Yodel. The nickname for HDNL among other couriers is "The Over The Hedge Boys" due to the workload and number of drops on a run meaning the drivers have a propensity to chuck the parcel over a wall, hedge gate even if it is fragile. I have monitor coming the sender has used Parcel2go, who have sent it via HDNL Oh Sh*t.

Wow i never knew this thread excisted i was going to start one 6 weeks ago on this subject(But never did :) )

I know why the deliverly is a joke: Was told by a taxi driver who used to work for HDNl most of the drivers are agencies employed working for the company. He said he quit because they expect the workers to be paid per deliverly and rememenbers the amount of parcels and deliveries he had to do to make even 200 quid up :) quite hillious at the time. That is why so many (If they do turn up) just never knock and leave the post it note.

Had simalar problems for some clients in my business since i sell for microsoft Cal licences for windows servers online. Used to use HDnL a lot until they never delivered anything then the company now uses DHL domestic which in some fairness is a little but better but not that much,

I think it is very much dependent on the individual driver. There are 3 different ones who cover my address, HDNL & Yodel appearing to be interchangeable (i.e I get a despatch e-mail saying HNDl is delivering but it is actually Yodel who rolls up or vice versa). One of the drivers I would rate "excellent", another one I would rate as "very good" but the third one is "very poor".

I'm looking to have a similar experience unfortunately. Ordered a package from Amazon that is rather larger than usual, so it's coming via HDN rather than Royal Mail/Parcelforce. It was loaded onto a van at 8am this morning, so I spoke very nicely to my manager and managed to be home all day except for an hour that I had to go in for to sort some things out. Come 6pm, and the tracking information is updated to say the parcel has been received back into their depot, no delivery attempt made or reported on.
  • DHL have owned HDN for years. BOTH are being rebranded as YODEL
Never had a problem with either.

The problem we always have with HDN is they never leave a card. All the houses in our village have the letter-boxes on the back door but the HDN drivers always come to the front, of course if nobody is in they don't bother to come round the back to leave a card so you've no idea they've even been.

The driver regularly delivers round here so is well aware of the fact the letter-boxes are on the back door so I don't know why he insists on going to the front.
