It amazes me how many people moan about the service they receive from delivery companies. When you placed an order with whoever surely you must realise (if you are in f/t employment like most of us) that there is a strong possibility that you won't be home when the delivery is attempted! So do yourself a favour and get it delivered to work or a relative. If thats not possible leave a note on the door ' Parcel Delivery - If out leave with neighbour at.... ' Hardly rocket science is it?

It amazes me that a company called Home Delivery Network doesn't realise that (if you are in f/t employment like most of us) that there is a strong possibility that you won't be home when the delivery is attempted. So why don't they do themselves a favour and deliver them at times when people are at home. If that is not possible leave a note through the door "Parcel Delivery, package taken back to depot which is open late every evening, or tell us when it would be convenient to re-deliver". Hardly rocket science is it?

    HDNL deliver late
but they cant be at everyones door at the same time
the bigger problem is their(lack of) depot network

They also like to leave things in "safe places" like recycle bins and garden sheds. I have a good old neighbour who's rarely out, he takes in all my parcels, apart from this lot, who don't try the neighbour's door, just put it in recycle bin. Had 2 lots of parcels go missing from the bin. Needless to say, I try not to use companies that use this lot any more, unfortunately with the likes of Amazon it's not clear who's going to deliver until purchase is made :(

They've got plenty of depots now after 'buying' DHL Domestic. The interesting bit will be to see if, and how fast, they can merge and consolidate the two businesses. In the interim, their are plans to transfer the Amazon traffic over to DHL@Home (the home-based couriers) which should mean that parcels will be delivered at more convenient times and have a local pick-up point.
  • I'm fuming with HDNL I ordered a laptop from Tesco Direct Monday missed next day delivery as I ordered after 12pm fair enough, delivery was booked for yesterday between 7-7 waited in all day, then around 12.30pm received a text to say my parcel would be delivered between 16.39 and 19.39 fair enough so carried on waiting.

Come 4.30 I kept an eye out for the delivery driver, we live on a high street up 2 floors, have an intercom but I kept an eye out just in case as really didnt want to miss the delivery but nothing, come 7.30 and still no delivery was starting to give up home but figured give them a bit more time weather was bad (raining heavily) so guessed they prob got held up somewhere, 8pm and still no delivery so rang Tesco to find out where my order was and was told that the driver was still out on route delivery and should be with me soon but the drivers had no phones so no way of communicating (which seems ridculous to me), slightly annoyed but was willing to wait if it meant i got my order, 9pm and still no delivery so rang Tesco back again to be told the driver had attempted delivery at 9pm (i was on the phone to them at 9.02) and there had definately been no delivery attempt me and my partner hadnt taken our eyes of the highstreet since 7.30 to make sure we didn't miss him, Tesco refunded the £5 delivery charge and send they would "hopefully" redeliver before 10am the next day (today), got the number for HDNL so my partner rang them aswell to see where things stood and was told the driver has attempted delivery and left a card (definately no delivery attempted and no card whats so ever), but was then told that as the driver was back late to the depot we couldn't have it re-delivered today  and that we have to wait til tomorrow (no timeframe given either!) just hope it actually turns up this time

My bad experience with HDNL happened when I was at home. It didn't arrive on the promised day (but that may not have been their fault). Next, I got a "we called and you weren't in" thing put through my door when I was in and near the door. I rang them and did finally manage to get them to say they'd "redeliver" on the Monday afternoon. They delivered on the Monday morning. Good thing I was in.

    I read that happens often.

HDNL expect people to dance attendance on them for hours and hours. The least they could do is ring the door bell.
  • I had never heard of Home Delivery Network until today, and after reading some of the experiences on here, i think i got away quite lightly.
They happened to be the delivery company for my parcel from The Book People. Only, HDN's idea of delivery was to abandon the parcel by my front door, exposed to the elements (heaven forbid it be left a few inches to the left where it would have been undercover) and in full view of anyone passing by who could have pinched it if the fancy so took them.
The driver didn't knock or even push a calling card through the door.
I wouldn't even have known he'd been if i hadn't have happened to have glanced through my window and seen the driver scrambling back into his seat.
I was worried my parcel would be returned to the depot and then back to the sender, so I called The Book People helpline. Their system showed that the parcel was "still on the van - not delivered" and advised me to wait and see if the driver returned.
It was only when i went nosing around the front of the house that i discovered the driver's delightfully lazy delivery technique. He had obviously been right by my door, so would the courtesy of knocking and handing me the parcel personally have killed him?! He could have at least left the parcel at the back of the house or with a neighbour. I have emailed The Book People to advise them of their courier's lax attitude towards customer service. I'm also going to complain to Home Delivery Network, annoyingly it seems that this can only be done via phone or post. Why have they no e-mail option in this day and age?!

I paid for a Saturday delivery at extra cost - not unreasonable to expect them to deliver on the day they said they would, or so I thought!

I do sometimes ask them to deliver to my work, and they seem to be better at that, but it is not always possible depending on the size of the parcel as I have to get it home either on my bike or the bus.

    You were lucky.

With the last HDN delivery I had, the driver decided against leaving the parcel by the the front door where it could be seen.

Instead he decided to drop it over a 6' fence onto paving slabs. Now unless he had arms like a monkey, it must have been blindingly obvious to him that it would have to drop the final 4' onto concrete.

    And the contents were fragile.
