Parking is a PITA for Canterbury we may get the train.0 -
Yes the Goods Shed. It's lovely and as you may be getting the train (a good idea as parking is hard) it's on your doorstep. We had a trip there a couple of years ago. Stayed in Cathedral accommodation, basic but cheap and had a lovely couple of days wandering round.

That sounds an excellent idea it would certainly save money on train fare I reckon
thanks Denise, I will look that up.

JB, that soup looks good, does it taste as nice as it looks?
Yes it does:) It's a nice alternative to the usual Carrot & Coriander recipes. I didn't bother with the mint, as I prefer the chilli 'kick' to be there. It probably would just as well with peanut butter instead, if that's already in your store cupboard, but I didn't have any so bought the cashews (only cost 50p for 40g though). And once I'd blended everything in the food processor, I put in in a pan on the hob on a very low heat for about half an hour, just to finish it off. You could also put some of the roasted carrots to one side, and add then, to give some textural variety. At the moment it's just cooling down, ready to portion up (into recycled soup plastic containers, waste not want not:))The potato bread from their recipes is really good too. Also the carrot salad was surprisingly tasty.
Going slightly off-topic, but for the soup I used my trusty food processor, which I've had for getting on for 25 years ... anyone else got an essential bit of kitchen kit (esp. electrical) which is still going strong?'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

Finally had empty enough freezer to defrost completely. Didn't risk re-freezing clams so had for lunch and the whole chicken is for lunch tomorrow.
Everything else (mostly butter and cheese) will go back in. OH is going to have a go at making stock later with lamb bones as we have enough containers now (Lidl) to use more in freezer.
Will do shop in Sainsbos tomorrow possibly and going to trek to Canterbury next week. Historic cathedral city, haven't been there in quite a while, maybe a year..got a wholefoods shop, plus a Habitat I think, huge Morries, Aldi I think, Waitrose, Lakeland, big ASDA, lots of interesting little shops, cafes, bars. Fenwicks and Debenhams as well as big M&S with food hall and cafe and a big BhS with cafe.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Was an ideal day too! Soil still cold and wet though here even in London.. I've just done 5 hours weeding and digging and am bloody knackered now! Am just sat here too tired to even cook dinner now.
Edwardia, I also wanted to go to Canterbury, can't remember what I'd seen online that was there though, must have been some interesting org or farm shop or something? I'll make the effort one day, along with Faversham.
Here's the cake I did yesterday, rather a lot of buttercream I thought but I did follow the recipe.. It will now stop me buying the Respect one!

Yep, that was it ^ !
Like the look of that wholefoods shop too.
Didn't realise was difficult to park though..Jelly_Biactol wrote: »Yes it does:) It's a nice alternative to the usual Carrot & Coriander recipes. Thanks for the recommendations. Potato bread is one of my on-off 'go-to' food cravings (had some for brekkie this morning, a 10p whoopsie from Mr A), but I've never tried making it; I will have to treat myself to a potato ricer first, I think ... funnily enough, I was looking at the prices of these today, but didn't see one that I wanted to buy. ANy recommendations, anyone?

Will try the soup next time I have a carrot abundance, I always have cashews in stock, mainly for stir fry, never thought of using them in a soup but would be useful for the protein. I do have a tiny bit of peanut butter to use up but I don't overly like the taste.
For the potato bread I just used a bog standard potato masher, did it like mash potato and added the flour, was just a little hard work mixing it in, I sort of stirred it with a wooden spoon until it became less sticky, but it came together really well, was very pleased with it! I like it when I get a recipe that works well, is easy and tastes good.
I don't find that things last that well these days, have nothing that old in the kitchen, oldest electrical item I have is a hairdryer but then I don't use it very often! It's 30 years old ish.0 -
Freezer movements -
In - nothing!
Out - tub of HM Plum/Apple crumble and a pastie/sausage roll.
We have workmen starting on Monday so quick meals needed.
For dinner we had pizza with HM wedges and stir fry cabbage/onions and garlic. First time I have cooked cabbage this way - it was yummy.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45
