I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Morning all
Well seems DM has some infection that is causing her to still be unwell. Doesnt help that this weekend we have the painters in doing some work on the outside of the house so the doors are open to let them dry. Really needs doing but is going to set us back around £1500  as there is some wood that needs replacing as well as checking the garage roof is intact after the horrible winter we had. Luckily the weather is good here today so shouldnt take long for it to be finished.
After this we really need to save money...thankfully we still get income from my late DD's pension through his old work so we should be ok in 4-5 months again I guess. Just will really have to tighten our belts. Freezers are jammed with food still and cupboards are packed so will make some headway on those.Anyway - since Mum's not eating much still I guess it will be a while lol.
Freezer movements very minimal again today, nothing in, but 1/4 loaf of brown bread out to defreeze for toast, plus large y/s pack of mexican fajita's, complete with wraps, chicken and everything. will have that for dinner and probably make pepperoni pizza on some y/s bases I found last week when shopping.
Going to research bread recipes today and probably buy some cheap baking powder/bicarb/yeast later in the week as we have plain flour in the cupboard and it needs to be used up. If anyone has any suggestions for a first time bread maker I'd appreciate it0 -
Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts. The kitchen somehow seems bigger and emptier. There's no dog sticking his nose in when I open the fridge door, looking expectantly for milk. No dog sitting waiting for his bit of my husband's toast this morning. It's awful.
We're snapping at each other, stupid things.. I made a list of what cleaning stuff we had prior to starting spring cleaning tomorrow and OH said it was stupid. I said I would add anything we needed to an Ocado order and get it delivered tomorrow cos Abel & Cole is coming so I have to be here. I got: " Why can't you go to the shops like a normal person ?". I had to point out that if I ran round ASDA, Lidl, Morrisons, Sainsbury's ie all the nearest supermarkets, I just wouldn't get enough organic food and it would cut into housework time. Then he said that he's just feeling all over the place, missing the dog. Me too, I found his brush this morning.
So no we're not doing well. Welsh Poppy I hope your cat dies peacefully in her sleep, having a companion for 23 years must be an amazing experience but make the grief worse (((Welsh Poppy)))0 -
Edwardia - when the time comes....look into getting another dog. I know its not what you want to think of and you'll feel like you are replacing him....but know that you could never do that.
You find you always have a place in your heart for the human ones you lost, its not any different with a much loved pet.
We always swore when our bunnies died that we would never get any more...but the house is too empty without a pet I find, they're like little people with fur and claws and funny ears. We're on bunnies 13 and 14 now after 15+ years of keeping them! :rotfl:0 -
Evening all.
Popped into Sainsbury's and bought a few things and decided on 2 Dr Oetker's. lol
Bought - 4 pints of milk (£1), 2 x pizzas (£1.50 each =£3), 2 packs hot cross buns reduced (29p each = 58p) and a reduced ciabatta (34p) - total £4.92. 2 x 80p and 50p from TCB and already tracked.
Made soup for tomorrow and hubby made curry with the last packet of Quorn pieces.
Just plodding along until Wednesday and picking up anything that's cheap. Check TCB tomorrow and see what I fancy.

The new issue of the Mr M free instore magazine has an article 'Take Five', with main meal recipes using just five ingredients: Broccoli & Cheese Tarts; Spanish Chicken; Mediterranean Turkey Steaks; Chunk Beef Tacos; Teriyaki Pork Skewers.'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

I thought yesterday was bad enough losing my dawg, but then thought I had mislaid OH's driving licence this morning. That was bad enough since to get new photocard licence you have to have a passport issued in last 5 yrs and pay £20.
OH then told me that he's got to go to Germany in April anyway and needs new passport so that's just over £100 all in for the two with pics I guess.
Rummaging in my handbag, discovered BlackBerry missing. It was in inner pocket with OH's licence while I was standing in basket queue at Sainsbos, clutching my purse-wallet. Handbag was on my shoulder but open and I think someone half-inched them.
When I go to supermarket I don't usually carry handbag I have several totes with inner pockets or shove cards in pockets. But I went straight from vetinarians so was looking more respectable than normal I guess.
Luckily have a spare BlackBerry and EE is couriering me a new SIM tomorrow and even more luckily had uploaded all my photos to new laptop Friday.
Why do people steal phones ? One call and mine was permanently dead as a dodo. Even with a new SIM it will never work.
Then my mother called this evening, when can I come down, one of her chest freezers conked out and she has a stinky freezer that needs clearing outJoy.
NSD for me, lamb leg steaks out freezer for dinner, watched The Bourne Legacy.
Deleted_User I lurve rabbits, had a neighbour with one, it was so cute it would follow me and dawg around the garden.0 -
A HM muffin out of the freezer and a bag of plain flour in - always freeze my flour after a visit from the awful creepies.
For dinner we had HM TITH with roast potatoes, parsnip, carrot, swede, onion and gravy - there was an odd sprout and bit of cauli too.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

You would love our Milka. He's adorable. A right foodie too
The other one (Oreo) is lovely too since he had the snip :rotfl: but he still grrs at me when he wants food/treats. I think he's a chocoholic as hes always after the box of rabbit friendly chocolate buttons we have for them, lol.
NSD here thank goodness. Painters left about 4pm after a long day, outside of house is looking SO much better, they'll be back tomorrow to finish off. The garage roof has also been recemented on the sides and the loose tiles put back in place - so no more damp getting in! :j
Thankfully DM went after the main guy before he left and got a proper costing from him, going to be £1200 which is £300 better than we originally started with. Have paid him half in cash now and the other half on Tuesday after he's finished.
Pizza for lunch was gorgeous although I had to hunt around for the one green pepper in the fridge! The fajita meal set was also amazing, really good for the price they were. Also finished off the y/s strawberries with the last of some dark chocolate sauce thats been in the cupboard about 2 years :rotfl:
Out of freezer in prep for tomorrow: 1 x pack diced beef, and will take some frozen stirfry veg out of the garage chest freezer in the morning. Going to make two batches of stirfry, hopefully one will keep in the fridge for reheating on Tuesday night after work. Will wrap up any remaining noodles and freeze them.
DM is finally eating again - she had ham and leftover beetroot from jar in the fridge and is going to try for a docs appointment tomorrow.0 -
