  • I so need the help & inspiration that you guys offer.... Freezer groaning, cupboards full....and I have seen a holiday that is quite pricey.... I want to declutter & save ( and lose weight)

    Good luck and welcome!! :D
  • Thanks guys.... I have made a deal with the OH, that we shall buy only the following:
    Fruit & Veg
    Bread
    Sandwich Fillers
Milk (tho' he can buy it as I don't drink milk :-)

Will try & use the Aldi super 6 as a basis.

We aim to spend nothing outwith these products for the period of Lent (seemed an achievable target)
    £3000 Holiday/Car Target.... £180

  • Well it's Friday so for me that means Microwave Baking.:j

Today it was jam sponge - dead simple and quick (of course!) and very tasty, too. I made it with strawberry & champagne jam - very decadent:p - plus other store-cupboard ingredients (so I'm still sticking to the theme of the thread). Though I did feel like a lie-down afterwards - I'm not used to jam sponge for lunch.:)

    Here's the ingredients:

And here's how it turned out

Thanks to blackandwhitebunny for the recipe idea, here:T

Last veg day today and it has been a pleasure.

    :T

Your meals have been interesting too. I think you are the only one who enjoyed it though??!!

    Pity it wasn't a "veggie" month. :D
Think Sunday may be another tagliatelle in blue cheese sauce (like last week), but with lardons. lol

Veggie Month later in the year?! lol can't see many takers.
Just think how much more money you could save by leaving out the lardons... ;)

I've actually had to think more not using fake meat this week, am going to largely leave it out in future, I got a bit lazy using it - though have a few portions in the freezer to use still. Will use it more as a rare treat/lazy meal in future instead of always having some in.

Today the jacket potato with cheese was really good again for lunch. Another tomorrow, in fact probably for the next week as I had 7 large potatoes! Was lovely walking past Asda this morning and not having to go in. Might order a small veg box for next week depending on how much veg I have left.

Dinner tonight - I did a tray of oven roasted veg - aubergine, carrots, leeks, courgette, broccoli and garlic. Had it with the Tideford pasta sauce and pasta. Am definitely eating larger portions of veg as I have the veg box.

Aldi now added to the 100% horsemeat items..
  • Kirri, I have seen the light a wee bit, I always have a few different veg in my main meal, I like veg now lol esp asparagus, it has been fun, will Deffo be up for next veggie week.

Didn't have what I planned, had a bag of chips and have been picking ever since.

    What's the next challenge? :)

I had to skip pages - your photos are horrible!! yuk!!

I have a sick child atm. Middle son had tonsilitis last week and now eldest is not well with sore throat and temp.. joy!

Today is middle son's birthday and tomorrow is his party so no nsd for me. Doing basic menu tomorrow though with pizza, chips, chicken burgers, snacks, fruit and cake with jelly and icecream to follow - I reckon the kids will be fine with that.. lol :)

Had a tesco takeaway curry box from freezer last night but not impressed. Was lamb rogan josh and chicken tikka. The tikka was fine but the lamb well if it was lamb... didn't know lamb was "spongy"......

kids had pizza from freezer and topped it with salami and sweetcorn. DS 1 didn't eat as he felt ill.

Got out a fish pie that I made last week to share with parents tomorrow night with salad. Kids will have party food followed by a mini tea if they are hungry.

Bought two chicken from lidl with 30% off today and one went in freezer. The other is in the fridge for Sunday if we want it or it will be frozen as we may decide to take the kids for lunch out if DS1 is ok.

This morning I baked a birthday cake and made three jellies. Then this afternoon I scuplted the cake into a "7" and then decorated it with icing and loads of bits and pieces. Looks fab! DS2 is happy enough!

Wish me luck tomorrow with the party!!! I think I have about 21 kids in total.... Thanks in advance!!!! :D
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

  • Not had a great week foodwise as we had the sickness bug at the beginning of the week. DH or me couldn't face much even when better so ate lots of toast! Good money's tho cos I've not shopped. I did get some Aldi Super 6 carrots, some apples and the sunflower margarine which is sbiut 50p cheaper than vitalite and I can get that in the village so that's going on my list in future.

All that good is likely to be offset by this weekend as we're going to see the in laws and MIL doesn't get Veggies much less milk intolerance. She actually asked me once if I ate ham!

Anyway used some bits out if the fridge for a mixed bean bake to take with us so that will cut the food bill a bit.

I've only spent about £20 in Feb do far, but that was in part an Mcdonalds for DSs friends birthday.

Freezers are doing ok really lots of space, it's the cupboards that need some work. Will try and plan some meals from the cupboards when I return on Monday.
