I can confirm the sweetcorn soup of Jellybiactol's was good with the chillis in. I work with him and he let me have a taste, AND i'm not dead so tinned sweetcorn that's ten years old is fine!

    Update :D

Had great freebie recipe book in the post from DK today (for introducing a friend) - got the Middle Eastern Bible - they couldn't have sent me a more perfect book!

Has a recipe for Dukkah in it I may try, seeing as though Sainsbury's seemed to have stopped stocking the one I used to buy.
  • Just grabbed some bargains in Mr w meat full price would have cost £20.80 reduced price would have cost me £12.05 I got 2 bbq pork shoulder joints, a meatloaf that feeds 3-4 2 packs of 500g beef mince, 7 pack of hula hoops, a pack of Prawn crackers, a pack of paprika wedges, a huge bunch of asparagus, a pack of chillis for the grand total of £9.11

Funny thing was I was at the meat section where loads was reduced with thus woman and she said to me oh I only came in for 1 thing but I can't resist a bargain, so I said i know and if you get the reduced ones in their deal it takes money off, she said oh i know! I was suprised I thought I was the only one getting away with that lol, she then said but sometimes they don't let you, they call someone to take it off, so i was a bit worried even though it has never happened to me, but i saw her going to a till and realised why they sometimes stopped her, her basket was full to the brim, solely of the reduced meat that takes money off! No kidding she had about 20 packs, I only get a few at a time, think I will continue doing that! As i was leaving I caught her eye and we shared a smile lol, now I know who snatches up all the meat bargains before I get a look in!

I hadn't gotten dinner out the freezer, so I'm having a pork joint, paprika potatoes, asparagus and carrots, rest of the pork will last until Saturday so enough until the start of veg week so meat drawer that was nearly empty will look better, going to split the mince in 2.

If you didn't know it was gravy it would actually be hard to work out what product it was supposed to be!

Yeah we should have a thread which lists ingredients and then MSErs can guess the product. ;) No point me starting one though cos if I listed wholegrain rye flour, spring water, yeast, salt for example I think MSErs would guess crisp bread.

jemb Martin Lewis was on Radio Five today and he mentioned a woman who was given 300 yr old flour and baked with it

They didn't keep him long - still better to get home - hospitals full of germs. Did they put him on medication and tell him about his diet?

I've no idea what would be in these three:
    Disodium guanylate
    Humectant
    Glyceryl tricetatel

A humectant is a substance that helps a product retain water, and is sometimes used as a component of antistatic coatings for plastics:eek:
(so it's a generic term, and doesn't even specify what chemical it is)

    Glyceryl tricetatel is Glyceryl triacetate

"Glyceryl triacetate also known as triacetin is the triester of glycerol and acetic acid. It is a synthetic compound that produces a clear, combustible:eek: and oily liquid with a bitter taste that is used as a food additive. It is slightly soluble in water but very soluble in ether or alcohol. It is used in the food industry as a solvent for flavourings, and is used as a humectant in pharmaceutical products. It is also used as a plasticiser and a solvent. Its common uses are in butter, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and cigarette filters"

So, basically, not something that you would normally use to make gravy:)
