I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

RS - Holland & Barrett do molasses. Or any health shop probably. It's amazing how many ordinary items don't seem to be stocked in supermarkets - I get malt in H&B too, another thing that is hard to get hold of.
Today will probably be another day of fruit bread, bean burgers and bolognaise - desperate for fresh food and was hoping to have had my Ocado order today but the delivery slots all disappeared off the system early last night weirdly, so doubt I will be able to get it till Sat now (Friday slots are too expensive). Got nothing sweet in  very low on butter and vegan marge is useless for biscuits, great for cakes but I have no eggs.. unless I do vegan cake I suppose..0 -
Morning all.
Soworried - lovely to see you "back", hope you are well. Did you enjpy your Xmas feast??
Jane - maybe the Bisto one will be better, I think I'll email Aldi and ask as nothing listed in the ingredients suggest it isn't suitable for veggies.
Lip_Stick - the cheap Fairy is from Asda. Not seen in my store, but got Brother some large antibacterial bottles for 75p. I'm top heavy on Fairy. lol
bearsinthewood - welcome and good luck. Welcome to MSE also.
Just went to Asda yesterday and bought:
2 x sunflower spread @ 50p (£1), noodles (£1), 3 bananas (34p), Indian spice ketchup (20p) and some reduced veg. A cauli for 33p and carrots for 27p = £3.14
Also bought a top for £6 ....................... big spender. lol
Toast for breakfast and took out prawns for stir fry and peppers.
I have found the "G SPOT" at last ......................... "G" for GAPS in the freezer.
2013 food spends = £52.10 and last day (yeah) - might spend some today, but need nothing!! £7.90 under budget if a NSD.

Lynsey, what I've noticed since joining that vegan thing is that a lot of cheaper shops' products are actually vegan, I'm always very suspicious as I like to see a suitable for veggies thing but as long as there are no extra ingredients like gelatine etc it should be ok.
Do you have a list of the ingredients of that gravy?
Just found a bag of frozen peas and broad beans so might defrost that, pod the beans and do risotto tonight for a change.
Toying with taking out another pack of frozen broad beans and turning them into a broad bean and shallot dip for lunch.
Don't want to lose by too much in the race to empty the freezerI don't think I will get their first due to the sheer kilos of beans lol but if I could be empty and defrosted ready for the start of the main growing season, say Easter, I'd be happy.
My food choices are getting a bit dull, I have lots to use up but need to buy other things to liven them up a bit I think.0 -

We're having a no shopping week this week, after the delivery fiasco with Sainsbury's last week we have 2x as much cereal etc as usual. The only thing I'm really low on is the beigey brown tub marigold stock powder it's the only one I use now but only Sainsbury's sell it around here. Tonight we are having traditional American style baked beans but I am using pinto beans instead of haricots, and instead of real meat I am using wheat gluten chorizo. Also I am making my secret recipe vegan garlic bread using the Sainsbury's basics part baked baguettes to have on the side xx0

I suspected that may have been the case, hope you are back on track. Did you go back to work too early??
My Xmas ended up being a frugal one to come in under £1200 for the year .................... Kirri spurring me on. lol
Kirri - I'll write those ingredients later, but nothing I can see leads to believe they wouldn't be suitable for veggies. Are you panicking yet??

Black treacle works fine as a substitute for molasses, they just won't have quite the same flavour. I grew up in NC with molasses (instead of pancake syrup, instead of sugar, etc) so I'll be ordering some from Amazon as soon as my bank account opens. If you're like me and use lots of molasses, Amazon has it for £10.74 for 6 jars at 350g each. That's for the fair trade, organic, vegan, unsulphered one. The stuff also keeps nearly until the end of time!0 -
