I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

I'm a bit more up north, and I think the fault is just with mine, as my dad's net is fine. Could be the weather tho affecting things?
We were supposed to have our broadband switched over to fibre to the cabinet today. Turns out, the Openreach engineer 'unplugged something, let it touch something else he shouldn't have, and didn't plug us back in' as my husband (who works in the industry) put it. Turns out we cannot even use our landline phone due to our line being crossed with someone else's. Our line is touching someone else's in other words, which means neither of us can use our phones. Since the Internet is how I can call my mom in the States for free, I cannot even call her until this is all fixed.
Anyway, to introduce myself: I have a fridge/freezer (separate compartments and separate doors on this one thank goodness) and a pantry underneath our stairs. We have a budget of £50/month for groceries and toiletries usually and our freezer is still quite full. Just sliced up 2.5 kg of red onions and froze them today! I've been lurking here for a while and figured I needed to post.0 -
Been awol after losing Mil. Really need to run freezers right down - got 2 - 1 tiny upright and 1 small chest model.
My week for spending starts on a Monday - so far this week spent £1.90 - milk and custard powder.
Dinner tonight - chicken from freezer.
While oven on - used up some glace cherries - 2009.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Kirri - the stilton pasta does sound nice - I am really funny about stilton though. I sometimes really like it and sometimes I think it tastes like sweaty feet smell!
I wasn't sure about it either at first! I try not to breathe as I cut it but now I really like it in the pasta!!ms_night_ryder wrote: »What's crevettes?
Kirri for your own sanity don't order from milk and more, I came on here last, year.saying I was taking up a deal, got.warned against them, didn't listen and got burned!
They did have a blip at first but although I've not used them much they've been really good each time I have and have had loads of £5 off offers or freebie items.
Well done on the freebie milk, shame last day today.Jelly_Biactol wrote: »
So, who on this thread has got the most freezer space - number of freezers or in, say, cubic feet or whatever?
54 I think, whatever measurement that is in.. it's a small freezer on top of my fridge though saying that it still packs a fair amount in. I'd be stressed living with 4 freezers!!!
Only seemed to fit in 2 meals today, fruit bread toast for brunch and stilton & garlic mushroom pasta this evening so used all that up now. Won't be going near Waitrose for another week probably so will get some more Stilton then (got a taste for it now..) and will make a start on the bolognaise meals I have in the freezer next week and may turn a couple into cottage pies. Might have nut roast and the last of the broccoli tomorrow night.
I don't want to/can't spend much more this month so will have to try and make do for the next week. I've got a coupon for H&B so may pick up some free vine fruit tomorrow to make more fruit bread for next week. Need bit more veg for the pets tomorrow too - they didn't like the M&S tomatoes I got as a fill in...
Might make some oat and fudge biscuits in a minute. Got nothing sweet to eat..0 -
Well hello Florenceem! It has been awhile!! Lovely to see your piccy's again. If I had a site to host then I would upload mine too!
Our stirfry has just been eaten and was proper NOM! Prawns and peanuts with TONNES of veg and garlic with sweet chilli sauce... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Got one portion of 3 x kids tikka to freeze for another day and they enjoyed the same tonight with rice and HM naans.
Hubby is off out tomorrow for food so I need to find something for me. Want LOVELY stuff. mmm. what should I choose? Boys have hot lunches at school so probably do something on toast or jackets for them for tea. Littley has a party in the morning so won't need much for lunch if anything!
Need to keep the freezer progress up - keep motivating me!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

It's a nightmare eh. I like the way, when you phone them with a problem they tell you if it's at your end, there'll be a huge call out charge. No mention from them about a rebate if the problem is with them! You're doing well typing so good on a smartphone. I'm rubbish at it. Hope you get it sorted!
Welcome to the thread btw! That's a small budget you have. What type of meals do you generally cook?ms_night_ryder wrote: »Lipstick where is the 50p butter from?
Bought it from Fulton Foods, don't think they have them many places. It was short dated, but by the looks of it, they're buying the stock like that.Jelly_Biactol wrote: »Four freezers? Wow, that's quite a challenge you are tackling, but I like your 'freezer shop' strategy:)
It makes my half-a-fridge-freezer look a bit pathetic by comparison :rotfl:

Let us know how the party goes, really hoping you and ds have a fab time! _party_There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

I'm only cooking for myself and DH, but I know how to make things last as well. I've been sick of late, so I haven't been cooking like I should, but we have things like chicken pot pie, roasts when I can find them cheap enough; vegetarian curry in the slow cooker is a definite winner here, plus it makes 8 servings minimum! I found some wholemeal sub rolls Monday for 19p for 2 (bought 3 packs, so 6 rolls) and stuck them into the freezer when I got home. DH took one for lunch today along with some homemade meatballs and a bit of pasta sauce for a meatball sub. I'll post more meals when I'm not up late sick!
For the smartphone bit, I use my phone nearly as much as I use the laptop and I always spell check stuff, even though some bits still slip past me.0 -
Morning all!
Florenceem good to see you back (your pics always look yummy!) and sorry to hear about your loss
Mrs TM hope you feel better soon!
Need motivation to run down our freezer- we have been doing ok at making do with what is in , but stocking up on top of that means it is still full!Lots of quorn for veggie week and a whole load of veg which I can make stew with at some point (still lot 2 packs of lamb in freezer but no space to put cooked stew back in!) only xmas eve bargains left are 1 pack wedges, 2 pies and 2 salmon filletts which isnt bad considering I totally filled our freezer with stuff! They will all be eaten by next weekend Id imagine!
Lots and lots of tins in cupboard and a few "instant" type meals in there as well like filled pasta , should do us a few weeks Id imagine!
Lets see how long I can manage without a supermarket (bread and milk excluded if okay)
Today is day 1! :rotfl:0 -
Morning all. Hope all are well. Will soon be the weekend! :T
Breakfast for ds was weetabix minis with strawberry. Bought these yesterday as he loves strawberry and these were RTC in a corner shop. No brekkie for me.
Dinner mayyyyy be fish and chips freebie from BHS but not sure. Tea was supposed to be fish and chips lol... this may now change!
Need to ring Three today, as my contract is coming to the end. :j Not a phone call I'm looking forward to!
Flo - some lovely baking there. I could just eat one of those buns with my cuppa this morn.
Mrs TM - There's only myself and my son, who eats about as much as a sparrow, and I probably spend double what you spend, despite buying whoopsies and trying hard to buy offers etc. Will be interested to know your other meals. Hope you're feeling much better soon. x
Deleted_User. I notice you're doing well for the 1st quarter in the grocery challenge. :lipsrseal :whistle:There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson.
