Thanks for that Kirri, what I did today was stop at a spot, then used my.Google maps app and did walking directions to my house from present location, that lets me know how long it will take as well as the miles, not as faffy as it sounds, decided I will do another of those walks tomorrow, it was up 2 inclines, have a feeling my legs will hurt tomorrow.

@MNR & Kirri (and any others who might find it useful)
If you need a free walking route planner, there are some helpful tips here...

such as, Where's the Path

The third post (Reply 2) on the Walking Forum is a step-by-step tutorial on using Where's the Path.
I haven't tried it, but someone I know has, and recommends it.:T'It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.'

Evening all.
It's been absolutely freezing here today, hoping it warms up soon!
Spent £2 today on bread and sugar, and £1.40 on a cuppa plus fish and chips from BHS. It was really busy in there, think a lot more people have cottoned on. Ds is in bed and has been since half 4. Wore himself out after getting himself lost in Asda by running off, so I said he couldn't have the sweets he wanted once I'd found him at CS. Cue him crying, blaming me and shouting how I've upset him, all the way home.
Need to use stuff from my cupboards. Had a tin of beans fall off and hit me right on the back of the hand, then when in the freezer I dropped a 1.2 kg piece of meat right on the top of my foot... not my day lol.
Tea was a fierycracker sausage sarnie. The ex is a right wimp, he said they were really hot and I don't think they are. The pig ate the full packet all in one go!!
smegcat - wishing your hubby a speedy recovery and that things settle to normal asap for you.
Flo - sorry to hear of your loss.
Wondering how on earth you cut the bread so straight!
Kirri - do you have guinea pigs? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

Ah yes the budget! ... well.... as you can see Im not doing brilliantly at sticking to the title of the thread!! :rotfl:
Some of it has been buying lots more fresh fruit and veg (not from market/ald* super six so serves me right really!) as trying to be on a health kick of sorts, and some of it has just been supermarkets (not at whoopsie time) !
That said, we have the bases of most meals for a LONG time (months) 2 loaves of bread , milk in freezer and 4 big 500g bags of quorn plus mountains of fruit and veg so I reckon if I had to I could meal plan for coming up a month , which would leave 2 months and £100 (ish!!) left for the first quarter .... hmmm now there's a challenge!!!
Shall be back when I have thought of a solution to that one!
Smegcat hope you and hubby are ok and he is recovering well.
Florenceem - bread looks yummy did you do it in a breadmaker or by hand? have to admit the only bread I have ever made has tasted a bit like a rock!
May try some mini muffins tomorrow tho, think I probably have all the ingredients in!
Stay warm to all those still snowed in!0 -
Just practice - I always sharpen the bread knife before starting and several times while slicing. Years of practice I suppose - I am getting on a bit you know! :rotfl:Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Raided freezer tonight as hubby has gone out for a meal with my friends and found an old tesco light ready meal of mushroom pasta so had that with added garlic, rocket, spinach, spring onion and red pointed peppers. Mmm not bad actually!3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Chocolate Cake in a Mug...and cooked in a Microwave
I've been baking today. But keeping it as simple as possible, so in a mug, and cooked in the microwave.
So from this
To this

as easy as you like!
(the last pic shows the Mug Cake after it's nearly all been eaten; the one that came out of the microwave looked a lot more appetising)
Who needs an oven, eh? And baking skills?
And these contestants on The Great British Bake-Off who get two and a half hours to make something? Pah! It took me about two and a half minutes.:rotfl:
It tastes really good, too  (children would love it, especially the making of it as well).
And I only used cupboard ingredients, so I'm sticking to the theme of the thread, too:D
But you do need a really big mug!
:snow_grin
Ingredients
4 tablespoons self-raising flour
4 tablespoons sugar
1 egg
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons chocolate spread (Nutella or own-brand)
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons vegetable oil
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a large coffee mug. Whisk well with a fork until smooth. Microwave on high for 1½– 3 minutes. (Time depends on microwave; mine took 2 minutes.)
original recipe from
http://www.livelovepasta.com/2011/05/nutella-mug-cake/
as spotted in a recent MSE newsletter

Florenceem - that bread slicing is amazing! I always get wonky slices and crumbs everywhere, which is why I don't make bread as often anymore.
I made chicken cassserole for tea and it wasn't very nice - I used chicken thighs and did it in the slow cooker and the chicken got really overcooked. won't be making that again!
smegcat - glad they did the operation - hope he has an uneventful recovery.
I don't know what to make over the weekend. I am really trying to to make healthier stuff but just can't think what to make. I will have a look at the Weight Watchers meals for one and two which I got a couple of weeks ago and see what I can find. I am still not used to making less since DD went to university and keep having to freeze leftovers. I have LOADS of chicken casserole left but I don't want to freeze it - I think I might blitz it and try and make it into a soup.....
Thick snow here tonight - hope you are all keeping warm.Jane
