The question - could I go 40 days without setting foot in a supermarket....
Now that is a challenge I'd love to do!!! I hate supermarkets but it's still hard to avoid using them. Anyone else in??!! *can sense the panic on the thread*
Lipstick, I used to use Megazorb, was really absorbant, only prob I have is that the cage is nearly 9ft long.. and gpigs just pee everywhere and anywhereso used to use it in heavy pee areas only as I was getting through a sack a month even then but then gave up and just use newspapers/hay now and clean the whole lot out everyday.. They have beds and hammocks (have you seen the rat hammocks?!) though as well, also changed daily..
Today, banana for breakfast
Fruit bread toast for lunch probably
Dinner - bolognaise I think, will get a portion out the freezer0 -
urghh... just gone to have a look for what I can have for tea and found I'd left the freezer door slightly ajar. Now the top drawer has half defrosted, and stuff that's in the door. Oh well, sure it'll be ok lol.
When does the veggie challenge start? Is it from 1st Feb or from the first Monday?
Kirri - ok.. didn't count on you having a cage 9ft long lol. Got a couple of rat hammocks but need another as they've just decided to chew through one. Do guinea pigs climb at all? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Veggie week Sunday 3rd Feb - Saturday - 9th Feb. I hope.
Adjust your own dates if it helps, so any consecutive 7 days. Or does anyone want fixed dates??
40 days out of a supermarket. lol
I could try a week!!
I like to use and abuse them for the "whoopsies". I could do 40 days on ONLY buy "whoopsies" from a supermarket. Milk and bread could be adapted.
Got my stuff today, mostly veg, cheese and eggs - tot up later. That's it for today.
We're having hot dogs in fingers buns with dried onions later with ketchup. Hubby's having salad tonight.
Some great veg offers at the minute and next few weeks - take advantage if you can. Should help veggie week.

Florenceem - yep there is a grocery challenge on the old style board, I am trying to stick to £1200 for the year so an average of £100 p/m for 2 , but as you will see from my sig have spent LOADS already!!
However- I did a little count up last night and reckon we can do at least 40 meals (including breakfast and lunches - with leftovers) out of what we have in , may need to top up slightly on milk/fruit etc..
The question - could I go 40 days without setting foot in a supermarket....
Probably not :rotfl:
but it would be another challenge for the books!! ...
Not decided whats for dinner today , probably something easy , either curry or pie and veg from the freezer- tomorrow probably whichever of those we dont have today then Monday Ill make something like a pasta bake to last a couple of days!

Lipstick, they don't climb but do go upstairs, I have ramps, cages are just made to whatever size using grids so it's expanded over the years!
My fave online shop, the faux fur is lovely, check out the double level hammock and the fleece lined items

Is it meat that has part defrosted?? I've had veggie stuff do that and I've still eaten it..0 -
Hi y'all. I haven't read everything
so big hugs all round xxx My laptop battery died 24 days after the warranty expired  so atm I'm using OH's ancient Dell with Windows Professional XP and Internet Explorer 9
I could do 40 days without a supermarket peasy as I can get deliveries from Abel & Cole, Foodari, Ocado and Riverford.
However, my mother would be most upset as she lurves to shop and visits a supermarket almost every day.
So I go with her to one or two of Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Lidl at least every fortnight. Don't usually buy much myself though.
OH and I would be skeletons if we had to survive on organic whoopsies Lynsey
I'm starting my veggie week Friday evening as staying over at veggie mother's pre-cookery course.
Going to ASDA this afternoon for first time in months. Really sunny here today.
Hope everyone has a good day xxx0 -

Could really crack some shopping habits in 40 days! and empty some space.
Top ups from butcher, greengrocer/veg box, independent shops, non-supermarket deliveries, milkman, can buy flour for bread, markets, farm shops & even living out of the freezer
Lynsey I prefer fixed dates so will go with same as you for v/week. I'm using the bolognaise/vegan sausages up this week so I can't be tempted to use any fake stuff.0 -
hmmmm...you lot seem to have quite a lot of faith in my ability to stay outta the supermarkets!! :rotfl:
It was more a plan of 40 days without spending on food as we have spent so much already! so no online orders either, just using up what we have!! ...
Would be interesting to see how far we get as would take us up to the weekend of around the 2nd March...
I reckon then I would have broken my "just popping to tes*o" addiction and be more savvy about what gets spent! ...0 -
^ How many do you buy for? I was shocked at how much you've spent in Jan!
Still love to do it as a challenge, as long as not supermarkets it would probably be more of a considered spend, ie on stuff to top up what is already at home.0 -
So went to make porridge this morning and a weevil dropped into the bowl, I'm really baffled as to how it got in there it is a Quakers individual portion and I had literally just washed the bowl! Was so disgusted i threw away the milk and porridge, I had the last 2 mini bagels instead, I'm out literally all day doing jobs, so i will have a takeaway.
I have just realisd I only cleaned out 1 cupboard, tomorrow I am going to clean and throw stuff from all of them, not cooking in there until It's all.done, It's not like it's dirty anyway, I'm also buy some containers from poundland for the pasta, flour and rice.Lose 28lb 3/28lb
