  • Can i join you lovely people? I have been reading your thread for a couple of weeks and really need to give myself a kick up the rear to try and clear the cupboards and 2 freezers.

We have a lot of meat in our freezers and are trying to meal plan to incorporate all the meat. We also have about 50 (yes you read that right, 50) boxes of cereal  from the A's APG glitch a couple of months ago.

I have set a budget of £1200 for the year groceries for both my husband and I and as you can see so far we have not done too badly :D

    Sorry for rambling on.....

Welcome DanielleNic87! You will learn much and save plenty!

I am still trying to empty my freezers and cupboards - it is taking a while but I am working through it slowly :).
    3 kids(DS1 6 Nov, DS2 8 Feb, DS3 24 Dec) a hubby and two cats - I love to save every penny I can!

Evening all, NSD went as planned.

DanielleNic87 - welcome to the thread and good luck, especially with your budget - great start though. I would love to hit ASDA with a glitch this year as sadly I couldn't last year with being on a budget.

Kirri - OUCH!! good luck with that.

Does anyone find like me that they want to use up what is in the cupboards and freezers quicker than they can?

Tell me about it!! It's so frustrating trying to clear a freezer!!
From now on, I'm not going to take stuff out of boxes and wrappings just to squeeze more in - the game's over for a while. lol

But ................................. after a bit of moving stuff about in the freezers .............................. I've now got an empty freezer drawer. :T
It's out and cleaned and staying out overnight as a trophy. :D

We've just snacked today and made pork casserole for tomorrow and took out meatballs for pasta bake on Tuesday and chips for tonight for a chip butty for hubby and a couple of muffins to have with ice cream. These final bits created extra space for the free freezer drawer ............... applause again. lol :T

I think the £60 January budget has helped. 11 days to go and almost £27 still, getting better by the day!! A few fruit and veg "whoopsies" would help.

Baking bread now, Wright's mixed grain (made bread buns).
I've used last of carrots and they are needed this week and milk on Tuesday and maybe some bread if I don't bake. very little butter left, but avoiding and still some Bertolli left which will do until the end of the month.

2 more NSD's this week would be nice.

katskorner - yes, have your party earlier. :D
    Good luck.

Thanks Lynsey, can't believe I scrimp so much then have to blow all that..

Vet also wanted me to put him on a hot water bottle during recovery - so now I have to sleep in a cold bed too lol as I had to put mine in the cage... If anyone sees a good quality, small hot water bottle (don't need one with a cover as I still have that) do let me know as I need to buy myself another one now! Have no idea where to go and look for one?

Had the vegan gammon sandwich, can't say was the best meal. Wonder if the foxes will eat it if I put the rest out?? Not cooking tonight, just had a few biscuits instead.

Congrats on the empty freezer drawer ^^ my freezer will rapidly empty now I'm more skint than I was before!

They'll not eat cr4p like that. :rotfl:
Give them some proper stuff. lol

Forgot, but did my "party trick" today and forgot to put paddle in bread-maker!! Realised within 15 seconds though and saved the day!!

Kirri - when I first started this "challenge" late 2011'ish and saved on food, my oven blew up and savings made went on that - frustrating, though we got lucky and bought a brand new Bosch oven - which has been great - from a Guy on ebay (£130'ish) who split from his partner and planned bungalow revamp went down the swannee!! Still brand new in unopened box, so lucky in one way I suppose. Shiny black and matches the tiles and benches.
There must be a few old fashioned hot water bottle tips out there??

Another tin of biscuits gone (shortcake) and with very little help, mostly all my own work. ;)

This afternoon, went to Mr A for a food shop, as I needed to stock up on fresh fruit and veg (which supermarket is cheapest for fruit and veg? is there a website that price compares?) plus other essentials. Spent £24ish on food but that should be enough now until the end of the month at least.:) And treated myself to a pack of 4 Smart Price chocoate mousses - only 21 pence :j

At Mr A, Coke cans were on special offer, promoted all over the store - 15 for £4. But Pepsi cans were 8 for £2, no promotion. So unless you really liked Coke, the 'special offer' wasn' the cheapest:huh:. People must fall for these kind of supermarket promotions, otherwise the supermarkets wouldn't keep doing it.

For tea, made up a batch of penne arrabiata using a store cupboard sauce mix, and there's enough left over for another 3 portions to put in the freezer. So my freezer is filling up (a little), but at least it's with food made from store cupboard leftovers.:D

I've just taken a loaf out of the breadmaker - smells delicious  Years ago I used to make bread, from scratch, but slowly got out of the habit; so I bought a breadmaker (cheap, on eBay) to get myself making bread again - you know exactly what ingredients are being used, and it's cheaper too :T

Oh, and I'm on the lookout for some glass storage jars with the hinged metal cliptop jampot-type lids, so any suggestions for where is cheapest would be welcomed (I know they sell them at Ikea). :)

You can get them new on eBay for £2.20 and upwards; or what about Poundstretcher/Poundland/etc?

Lol I tend to agree on the foxes, our old dog would never eat any fake meat.. he was most suspicious, would catch it and spit it out. I don't want to chuck it out the living room window and it gets left out there!!

That 'oh sh*t' moment and mad rush to try and get the dough out the way to put it back in.. I've done it.

Lucky buy on that Bosch oven, I'm always too nervous to buy like that admittedly! I'll try Wilkos for starters though maybe large supermarkets would have one - just as well they should be cheap!

Think Morrisons had those jars ^ no idea on price but their other types of jars were cheap.

Forgot Poundland, will check there, thanks. I want one with a British Kite Mark on to make things difficult..

Superdrug have some cheap ones, although 2 years ago they sold them off for 20p each I bought 10!!!! Boots also have them and Primark have some small ones with a cover on them.
