Jane/Kirri - I watched that programme too and was astounded at the amount of edible food that gets tossed out. Shocking really! I can't believe that woman didn't have the sense to use her leftovers, or at least cook what they'd eat, instead of enough to feed an army lol.

Well it stops the potential for meal times to become a battle ground, and makes it much more relaxing for all. Actually, from what I remember about the programme, you just leave the kids to eat what they want from their plate, don't try and argue for them to eat some more.

The kids on the programme were really fussy and had a really small amount of foods they'd eat, but eventually, because they were hungry they'd start picking at the odd thing they said that they didn't like, which the parents were told to completely ignore.. no making a big deal of it. In the end the kids were almost clearing their plates. The kids would still have the odd item which they didn't like, but they weren't being fussy for the sake of it iyswim.

Thankfully he's not that fussy yet. Probably he's great by some standards, maybe I've been spoilt cos he would eat anything and that's changing now he is at school!

One of his friends came round today and when I picked him up to help him up the table he weighed a lot less than DS. I probably wouldn't be worried about his weight if the Dietician hadn't said anything, but I know she'll be asking about it when I see her.

I'll probably drive myself mad with it!!

My mother decided to stay at home munching Marks & Spencer iced buns and as that saved me ££ I shopped online.

Anyone with toddlers who knows Organix ? Well Boots has selected ones 20% off atm and I was comparing prices of the toddler biscuits - there's a distinct lack of organic biscuits around to feed OH :D - and I found that the Organix online shop had a limited edition gingerbread biscuits tin so I got two. One for his office as a biscuit tin and the other as one of his birthday presents.

Got him some Neal's Yard Detox tea to de-stress him, as well. ;)

Lunch was a tin of Heinz organic cream of tomato soup - proper winter comfort food.

Dinner is the last venison shank out of the freezer with the last of the carrots and leeks and if the Ocado delivery doesn't turn up tomorrow I'm well stuffed :(

zafiro1984 I'm sure your husband and mine are related.. I got one mini mince pie at Christmas !

    Hi All!

We got SNOW!!!! Mega amounts of snow and likely to get more.... built two snowmen and done plenty of sledging so far :). School stayed open even though we were inundated. Let's see what happens Monday if we get more at the weekend.

Sledged to Tesco with smallest one this morning and OH came too so spent more than intended but got some LED Christmas lights at bargain price. 300 LED multi-function lights for £7.48. Plus baubles for 61p. Got a bit of food too. Actually have LOADS of food and milk and juice so do not need to get anything for a while (apart from a chicken as we have none left but not essential).

So beautiful outside. Cats are so funny running around in the snow! up to their bellies!!

for TV later :). Kids had v reduced pizza (25p) with heinz beanz (free) and smiley faces (v cheap). All from freezer / cupboards.

I hope you are all good x

  • canspendnomore - are you worried because your DS is too heavy? My elder daughter was always loads heavier than her friends - taller too, and they were always on my case about it. My younger DD is VERY overweight and I am very worried about her. She was a skinny little kid but since she turned 13 she has piled the weight on and is now probably officially "obese". I try my best but she sneaks food and also buys stuff when she is out. I do worry about her but I don't want to make too much of an issue about it. We have a programme round here called Move it, which provides one to one exercise sessions for young people and she has just joined that.

DD is out with her mates in the snow, so for my tea I just had a mooch about and ate up stuff out of the fridge and cupboard!! I had a funny mixture of a bowl of cereal (the dusty bits in the bottom of the box that kids won't eat), two slices of toast (both crust ends again which they won't eat) and a small sausage roll which had been in the freezer for ages! I will make a cup of tea in a while.

When DD comes in she can have a jacket potato with beans or a vegeburger in a roll.

ms_night_ryder do you make good use of your George Foreman? They have one in Aldi at the moment for £19.99 and I have checked online and that seems to be well the cheapest price for that model. I am just not sure about whether to get one. When they first came out I got given a large "entertaining" GF grill but I have to say that it was a pain because the non-stick came off the plates quite quickly, but maybe they are better now?

we use our george foreman in the caravan and it is brilliant. We have the one with removable plates which makes for easy cleaning but I believe that you can't get that model now. :(. We use it everyday on hols for cooking brekkies and dinner. Wouldn't be without one. That, along with our microwave and Remoska (Lakeland) , oh and the toaster and we need nothing else! We haven't bought a gas bottle since we had the van (7 years) and electric is included in pitch fee on EHU so perfect. Sometimes we get it out and use at home too if OH can be bothered - great for burgers and sausages!

  • Jane I use it all the time, im on my second, had my first for 7 years lol, i used that thing until it blew up, have a smaller one now, as soon as I get a chance I'm going bigger! I think the nonstick has been improved, trust me, the amount of fat it gets rid of is gross, much healthier, off to use it again just now, grill the last gammon steak.

No not too heavy. Had we not been under the Dietician I probably wouldn't have even known his weight, but over 6 months on a milk free diet he gained no weight and the Dietician said to keep an eye on it, 6 months on he's not put on much more, though he had the sickness bug in October and another virus at Christmas and lost his appetite. I worked really hard 1st week of Jan and regained all his illness weight, but then I was ill and he's lost some again. It makes me worry when he then has these silly times and won't eat things cos the kids at school wont eat it. Silly thing is if the Dietician wasn't involved I might not worry. He seems healthy enough!

Hello all! Room for a small one?! :D

I'm a long time lurker on this thread, and have thought about saying hi a couple of times but never really felt like I had much to add! But you all seem a friendly bunch (I feel like a bit of a stalker, feeling like I know you all when I've never even said hi lol), and the thread is busy at the moment so I thought I would finally take the plunge! (Oh, and the fact that at least one of you seems to be local - ms_night_ryder, I walk the same hill as you regularly!) Can't promise I will be a regular poster but I will be around following everyone's exploits!

I actually managed to get my freezer down to pretty much empty to defrost it, inspired by you all, in about September/October last year - so I was a success! Was... Built it all back up again now, but I try not to buy things I know I won't eat (I had 3 open bags of oven chips which I never use before! Took me months to get through them!), and it's currently full of portioned up home made ready meals I can microwave when I get in from work! I live on my own so no excuses to spend too much on food.

I don't get as many good whoopsies as some people on here seem to - it's a good half hour walk for me to a 'proper' supermarket, just have the locals and expresses and all that rubbish near me which I don't think are as good for them  But maybe when it's not as cold any more I'll start the occasional whoopsie hunt in the evenings again!

Anyway, just had a bowl of free cereal from a coupon last year for brekkie, then not sure about lunch or dinner - at least one meal will be some leftover macaroni cheese from last night. Or maybe a frozen lasagne portion (made with reduced mince, of course!)

Hope everyone has a good day and manages to keep warm :)
