I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Going to have to buy veg like carrots and potatoes if we're doing the veggie challenge, need milk too, maybe a bit of bread. Bit unsure about this veggie challenge. Would have to get a lot in for it so may not do it.
Maybe the veggies on here could suggest meals if you have a list of random storecupboard things that could be used up instead? doesn't seem a good idea to do it if having to buy too much in.. Got to be better than horseburgers though
Had toast and marmite this morning and a banana.
Just had hm soup and bread (9 portions left?).
Final tofu stir fry tonight. Will finish up the last of the mango chutney in it - bought that 1.5 years ago!0 -
Mid day break!!
Kirri - re your post about the birds. We have, well hubby has filled the seed and fat-ball feeders and I baked some bread as I have loads of the Amazon yeast from the glitch, bread just for the birds done on fast-bake. Blackbirds are fighting over it, so maybe a few times a week to use yeast up. Just used basic plain flour. Scattered some muesli on top of the [STRIKE]snow[/STRIKE] ice and they are having a feast - bless them.
Who does the cheapest, cheapest flour?? I think I saw some low date stuff in B&M's for few pence, check on Saturday.
I think a veggie week would be a "cinch", pasta bakes, stir fries, fried rice, veggie sausage and mash, veggie burgers with fries, hm pizzas etc, etc, etc. I'm lucky though in that I have quite a bit in and little to buy and I would use up some of the Dallaglio sauces to clear up. Omelettes, fried egg sandwiches, toasted hot cross buns, cheese and onion toasties, chip butties, veg minestrone and other soups ................................. oh and sweets and chocolate.
Maybe a problem if you need to spend though, well spend more than usual. Not an issue for veggies though!!
No Spend Weeks may be a problem for some, but maybe easier to have 2 consecutive weeks where the NSD are Monday to Friday, 5 days from 7 twice??
Got rid of some snack things and choccies, dinner around 7pm.

Lynsey, never thought about making cheap bread for the birds - did it rise ok with the basic plain flour? Will see what price value flour is..
I've just spent an hour walking to the allotment and back to feed the birds and fill up the feeders (bread I could throw out of my flat window though!!). The fat balls stored in the shed had frozen! Put a load on the ground too, birds came down straight away, probably need more seed now I used so much.
I'm happy to do 7 days of no spend - veg will last ok and I can buy hard fruit instead to last to the end of the week. Even if it's a Mon-Fri no spend it's ok as I don't like shopping at weekends anyway so will still be 7 days for me! Most other stuff lasts fairly well or could be frozen??
Re veggie week, probably harder with families but admittedly if I was doing the cooking I would cook the meal ie say pasta and then if they wanted to add meat to their bit (and buy it) they could! Kids excepted though, bit difficult for them to have to adjust. I was going to do it without fake meat to make it harder for me, I need to find a good bean burger recipe to use my stash of homegrown beans. Seen a few pizzas mentioned, will also do one - always have bread flour in, no longer bother to buy tomato puree as I have it without, just lots of veg, garlic, dried herbs and oil or bit of cheese if I have any.0 -

It didn't rise very well and 1st time I've used fast-bake.
Same weight I suppose and they loved it. Another positive a thrush visited today, which is rare now since all the magpies frightened them away. We used to have loads of thrushes years ago and nice to see them still around. The birds loved the muesli also and most of all, some of the Xmas pudding. Not kidding, they have had a feast and we have laughed watching them and listening to them - pets without the hassle. lol

Hi everyone !! xxx
Got blurb through the post today, my mother has booked us on a Middle Eastern cookery day in February.
She was doing veggie but my list asked me to bring 6-8 good sized chicken thighs and 250g lamb mince. I thought that sounds (a) too much for two people (b) not something I want to take home and reheat and (c) expensive unless all YS and the chances of getting organic YS where I live are about zero !!
So I'm starting my veggie week from 2nd Feb so I can incorporate that into it. Hopefully I'll get some veggie leftovers
The expensive Swedish brand organic South American coffee turned up at 8am. Looked at the website (lots in English) and found that with their prices being cheaper and rate of exchange would be cheaper to buy from Sweden
No snow here. OH has gone off to an interview and looked rather good wearing the Jermyn Street suit I got him 50% offIt worked out cheaper than a M&S one.
I could do with free organic bananas Lynsey, the way OH eats em. Aww that's so nice feeding birds xx0 -
I've never tried fast bake either, might be a good experiment.. xmas pudding I guess tastes nice and rich to them, strange tastes they have, I find it too strong.. Only had a fox, a robin and magpies today though parakeets were overhead. Had a lot of thrushes around in summer, don't see them in winter? I watched for about an hour but then started getting cold.. did leave a small handful of seed on the shed floor, had a mouse living in there the last two winters so wondered if one was around this winter..
Written a shopping list for tomorrow, will try and get out early before the snow starts..0 -

Wow that is a lot of food to have to take! I'd want at least a week's worth of meals from that, if not more!
Be interested to hear what veggie meal they get you to make though - bought this last week http://www.amazon.co.uk/Veggiestan-Vegetable-Lovers-Tour-Middle/dp/1862058849/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358439965&sr=8-1 but not tried anything from it yet0 -
Afternoon all.
Had cupa soup and 2 slices of toast, seem to be skipping breakfast since arsenicgate. I toom out chicken drumsticks and a packet of egg noodles from the freezer, so the chicken is in the slow cooker, will stir fry the noodles, found a small amount of mix veg in the freezer, so will add that and pak choi, also found a few packets of weight watchers jelly, so that's in the fridge, was going to make biscuits as i fancied something sweet, will make it tomorrow, as i need flour and butter.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

An easy NSD here also.
Challenge?? Any time if it's going to be the veggie one. No budget with it, so simple.
Anyone fancy starting ASAP or 1st week in feb??
