Lynsey, that place sounds good, never seen somewhere like that! Items probably fresher too rather than going through another chain to the supermarket.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Kirri - there are a few places like that in the Newcastle area, but at times I wish we had a "Brixton style" market up here.
    Link HERE

No cheap veg tonight, but there were loads of bags of salad.
Only spent £2.26 on 2 x 2 pint bags of milk and 2 jars of Seeds of Change korma sauce cleared at 63p per jar.

Picked up some salmon fillets for neighbour friend for 99p and go her 4 free tins of Heinz 5 Beanz.

Weeks total was £35.53 and would have been higher if I had my normal Saturday - I felt guilty and determined to be frugal today.
God knows how much at real value I got this week, but loads of stuff at 75%+ off and freebies - maybe £100+ at full price??
I do know that I've bought far too much though.
Next week is week 42 and last of this set of 6 weeks and this set will be high (around £150 to date). I should have carried on as I had been, but actually enjoyed not having a strict budget of late.
I'm going back to being frugal for November and setting a total of £100 for the month.
Only 11 weeks left and obviously I'll succeed now and then I can stop boring you lot. lol
The crazy thing is I have much more of a "stash" now than what I ever had!!!
Biggest tip I could ever give is to get your cheap stash and then only top up with mainly "whoopsies" and freebies etc.
Eating out of the freezers and cupboards may get rid of what you have, but it could be costly in the long term.
I'm very lucky though in the choice of shops I have access to and not everyone may have the choice or time or even want to live like I have this year - big savings have been made though.

    Waffling again ................ sorry. :o

Lynsey - Bargainhunter Extraordinaire of the week :D OH went to ASDA but no organic coffee left :( Luckily though I had ordered some Kraft Grand Mere cafe moulu familial ground coffee when it was on special offer at 2.20 for 100g at French Click so I'm drinking that.

Kirri - yeah Ocado had run out of the Stonegate organic eggs and looked like they run out of all the other organic eggs too :( The Helen Browning organic streaky bacon is horrible. Got a veg box was quite impressed with the variety.

Yup French Click not the cheapest website but cheaper than schlepping to France.

Been watching Food Unwrapped on catchup, eww to formed ham and eww at polyethylene on waxed lemons. I still haven't found organic ham without additives.

Having finished the sweet stuff list for Christmas onto the salad accompaniments like piccalilli.

My local Lidl being refurbed and it's going to re-open end November  Think of all the pre-Christmas stuff I will miss out on :(

    xx
  • Hey guys

Lynsey al no one here seems to always makes me chuckle when you mention Brixton, prob because no one mentions it.

Edwardia check sainsburys, they had some salad dressing reduced.

Just come back from Mr s, £1.59 spent, 3 loose onions, 2 basic tumblers, I seem to smash all of my glasses, 3 scwartz mushroom stroganoff mix, not something I eat, but perfect for the boxes, they seem to have a different one for 10p every time, got 2 5 beans and a basics washing up liquid which I use to clean the bath.

Unsure what i am eating today, finished macaroni.

  • Lynsey you dont waffle I always get some great tips and offers from you! :)
Kirri- well done on the wt loss this bargain hunting must agree with you!
Edwardia - its shocking to think of what goes into food isnt it?... scary ...

Made fajitas last night all out of cupboards/freezer
Did go to farm shop this morning and spend £13 but bacon and mushroom sandwiches for lunch and sausage casserole for tea out of that plus some nice ham ...
am gonna try to start getting meat from local butchers/farm shop and see if that works out cheaper than the supermarkets ... we have a lidl/aldi and all big 4 near us so shouldnt be too hard to top up on fruit/veg/milk/bread/snacks as needed!
may start after xmas tho as still hoping to make the £400 challenge! (possibly deluded! :rotfl:)
have a good day all x

I've found offers on Hellmann's, Jacob's crackers, Hayward's piccalilli, Heinz salad cream and stuck them on the Christmas thread so hope that helps.

Ms_Night_Ryder thanks for the heads up but I make my own dressings. Oil (not vegetable oil but sunflower oil is fine) + vinegar or lemon juice and mustard or Tabasco or whatever spices/flavourings/exotic oils you want. If in doubt use more oil than vinegar/lemon. Malt vinegar isn't suitable but you could use apple cider vinegar. It will keep in fridge for a couple of days as well but if you use olive oil don't do that cos it will solidify :( Some other oils solidify too in fact in our climate coconut oil is usually solid when kept out of the fridge !

Saves money if you have oil vinegar mustard and pepper about. You don't need much mustard so you could always swipe a sachet in a pub ;)

Deleted_User I agree with you and I'm glad I don't live in USA where they don't have to label genetically modified ingredients and can give cows growth hormones to make them produce more milk. We're actually lucky in the UK we have probably the toughest labelling in the world but in some areas it's still not great.
  • Think I will target Campbell's stuff for the boxes, will spend about £1 as the rice is 32p and i can use the 20p coupon, need a nice coupon that gives you money off your other stuff lol.

Where is so worried? We have lost Florenceem and lipstick too. -_-

    ms_night_ryder - Brixton. lol
Probably the best market we went to when my Son lived at Herne Hill. It's hard going through Electric Avenue without singing "Electric Avenue". more lol's
    Do you live near there??
Son is in North London now, so need to find a good market near Finsbury Park. I just like how vibrant the markets are down there, a bit old fashioned really in a nice way.

Popped into Sainsbury's for cheap veg, but only salad stuff again and asparagus.
Only spent 19p on a tub of cream for apple pie I'll make later and picked up another 2 tins of 5 Beanz.
Took out some pastry (last pack) and a sausage and mash ready meal for hubby tomorrow (too peppery for me).
Luckily Aldi have cheap veg for the next 2 weeks, so sorted .................. eventually.

I'll get the veg probably on Tuesday now (probably busy tomorrow) and then use up some freezer stuff.
Milk sorted until Wed/Thurs and bread for the week for toast, maybe just bake some if I don't get any cheap. I've got a few packs of steaks to use up and a Groupon meal more or less arranged.

I'll have to get some Foodbank stuff later in the week ready to send another box, not sure where the box is going yet though!!

Just snacking today, hubby is having some more of the Sainsbury's 50p belly pork slices - shame that offer seems to have gone!!
