  • Morning all - another wet and windy day here!

Am just going into work for a few hours, but have had toast for breakfast with a cheese slice, and am taking a chicken salad sandwich for lunch, using the last of the slow cooker blotting paper chicken!

Lynsey - the topping is really easy to make - I just put strawberries and blueberries into a pan with a little sugar and left on a low light for about 15 minutes, after which there is loads of juice in the pan and the fruit is soft. Then I mix a little cornflour with water and stir it into the hot fruit and bring to the boil to thicken. Then I let it cool and pour onto the cheesecake and it sets firm. You can do it with pineapple (use the juice from the can as it won't release juice like berries), or sometimes I make banoffee topping - just put some sugar in a pan and allow to melt without stirring, when it just starts to caramalize I throw in a littlecream or evap and a knob of butter or marg. Then I stir it like mad and then allow it to cool a little before tossing in some sliced bananas and using that to top the cheesecake.

Tea tonight will be leftover chippy chinese for DD and I will have either a tuna baked potato or omelette.

    Have a great day everyone!

Got my head out of DIY into shopping again so hello all hugs all round and isn't the weather awful ? :D xxx

OH is moaning that all he's got left of his food stash at work is Heinz organic cream of tomato soup so out went Waitrose organic baked beans and 2 x Geo organic Bombay potatoes this morning plus 1 litre Moo organic semi-skimmed milk .

Out of the freezer last night came some Sainsbury's diced organic beef (3 for £10 offer) and Daylesford organic chicken thighs (25% off offer Ocado)

I bought a Romertopf chicken brick at a boot fair for £2 but hadn't used it much - I just got a Romertopf cookery book from the 70s for 20p in the local hospice shop so I'm doing the chicken thighs in that.

Can see the bottom of the freezer which means it needs feeding again. Got some wild venison shanks 3.99 and whole partridge 3.69 each from Abel & Cole and some more of their own brand mature organic Cheddar (which is cheaper than Cathedral City) so far.

Was in a Tesco Extra I'd not been to abt 6 miles away with my mother on Friday, cleaned up on YS organic veg thinking Lynsey would be proud of me and yesterday I made veg soup for the freezer. :)

So I hope you're all well and mari-ella that was an impressive soup sweep there !

    Hello everyone,

I really need to get hubby to print me off some coupons as not had any for ages and hardly been near Mr T as so expensive otherwise! I have got out of sync with them and he isn't forthcoming on his own.

Tonight I have made a sausage casserole in the slow cooker after visiting morries, aldi and lidl yesterday to stock up on fresh stuff. Dug out a bag of 28 cocktail sausages (dated 2011 ), three finest ys chipolatas and 6 toulouse sausages and also threw in a bit of lamb mince that was left over in the fridge and I couldn't decide what to do with it. So one massive casserole ready as and when everyone wants it! Job done :).

Must think of tomorrow night so that OH can freezer dive for me tonight. Freezer is jammed because at Morries yesterday they had the 6pks sour ice lollies for 50p (got 6) and also the party food was 50p a box instead of 3 for £5 so I got six of those. I would have got more but there was no way I would fit it in. That is New Year's Eve sorted out if it doesn't all get used for the two birthday parties we have for the kids before Christmas :T. Nothing like advanced planning eh? lol :rotfl:.

  • This morning I emptied my freezer!! I took the last pitta bread out to have for breakfast as toast with Bovril- Yummy!! The last week has seen me eat some of the most random combinations of food, and I finally used up a pack of filo pastry I have been carrying around for a year last weekend! Made some delicious and easy to make Samosas with it. Only 3 days till pay day and then I can fill it up again.... thats the problem with only getting paid every 3 months - I do a massive bulk buy so that I dont starve when I inevitably run out of money (and this pay time has to last over christmas too- EEKK) Better be more organised this quarter!!

Morning all and nice Autumnal day. Sadly places up here have had it bad yet again. I feel sorry for the folks in Morpeth.

    Yesterdays spends:
    Got free:
    8 x Heinz 5 beans
    2 x Spam Fritters
    2 x Bear Yo Yo's

    Bought:
    2 x Dairylea Cheese Spread (300g) BOGOF = £2
    5 tins pear quarters @ 15p = 75p
Corn bread reduced to 10p per pack = 10p
    Total spends = £2.85

    Must do Morries today.

Breakfast will be porridge and pork dinner again.
I never did the cheesecake, so hopefully today.

Edwardia - great that you got the Organic bargains.

Herbgirl - well done and what an achievement.

chardonnay - the opposite to Herbgirl, but that's how to live cheaply - well done.

  • morning all - it's STILL raining here!!

I thought that today I might venture out to Morrison's in search of bargains to fill up the cupboards and freezer, now that it is pay day. Trouble is Morrison's is a fair distance away and I am not sure it is worth the effort. I have Green's coupons and 5 Beanz also, but it would be a real help if those of you who regularly shop there could tell me what I should be looking for in terms of bargains at the moment.

I made a cauliflower cheese last night as I had the oven on for chicken, so I will have that for tea with pork chops. Lunch will be chicken salad - I was watching the "Barefoot Contessa" on the food network yesterday and she made this chicken salad sandwich filler and it looked so lovely! She just chopped celery, chicken breast, apple and mayonnaise. I think I will make it with celery, chicken, apple and some Tesco finest coleslaw which needs to be used up by Friday!! I love the Tesco finest coleslaw as it is so creamy, and it is often on offer. Only trouble is that I find it hard to use up a whole carton before it goes off.

DD1 is coming home from University this weekend - she must need washing doing:(, so I will need to get some food in for her. Me and younger DD are easy to please but she is sooo fussy. She tells me that she has lost 10lbs already becuase she can't eat the hall food as it is too "rank" !!

Well, will go and have a cup of coffee before I nod off - I didn't get to sleep until after 3 and was up at 6!!

Jane, I wouldn't travel too far.

The free Quaker Oats So Simple with coupon is one offer.
M Best Shortbread is or was half-price.
You might get lucky if there are any 20p soups.
McVities Cheddars are half-price @ 54p - bacon ones are very, very addictive.

Check their offers before travelling https://www.morrisons.co.uk/Offers/

Cheesecake made, I just added some lemon juice to give a little flavour and will grate some chocolate over.

We have "A moose loose in the hoose", so off for a mousetrap soon!!

    Hi All,

Very tired today. Lots of worries so having trouble sleeping atm :(.

Food tonight for boys is last night's casserole as they liked it, there is loads left and no room to freeze it. We are having salmon fillets that we dug out earlier along with a cream marsala sauce also lurking in the freezer with its awkward round shape so that needs getting out of the way. Might do pasta with it as not had any that wasn't bolognese accompanied for ages. So tired I don't actually care today.

Had soup for lunch (heinz reduced salt tomato which was yummy and bought on offer buy 2 get 2 free at Nisa) with toast which was yummy.

No idea what to do tomorrow - busy evening out tomorrow with clubs and running. Might be something with chips. Have to see.

  • Afternoon all.

Had crumpets from freezer and reduced gammon for lunch, skipped brekkie.

Went to mr w, my first visit in 6 days, yay! lol got reduced fresh pineapple chunks, reduced strawberries x 2 large packs, reduced blue berries, reduced mince and a reduced living salad or whatever they are £4.70 for the lot, so i'm pleased, must remember to fold the kitchen towel over the blueberries.

Went into mr s armed with my 4 washlet vouchers and they wouldnt scan, so went over to cs and they still wouldnt scan, don't know whats wrong, i'm going to try printing some in another size and see if they scan, betty crocker have some of their baked goods half price picked up lemon cupcakes for £1.07 might get the whoopie pies to try, usually bake cupcakes on christmas eve with my god daughter, will get another pack of something else, so thats a saving, wonder of the mary berry ones will be sold and go down to half proce.

Got no washlets in the end, will try a different mr s tomorrow and also pass by a morrison, got a bit of work to do tomorrow, so will be needing a bus pass anyway :) might pop in to mr t's see if i can find some cheap conditioner for my grandma.

May need some veg soon, as really nothing i fancied, don't really like paying full price, so may go to lidl and see what they have.

Have a tiny bit of jambalaya left, will have that with some gammon and some of the salad for dinner.

While i was in sainsburys, they announced they will be having a double nectar point day on friday, will get washlets and beans hopefully and another box of fabs, really a bad idea to keep icecream in my freezer especially hd, it vanishes.
