    Thanks ammonite :)

Okaaay.. fish is protein so tinned salmon and tuna from Poundland, 99p Stores and similar - they might also have tinned meats which might not be the greatest quality but there's always Branston or mustard to liven them up ;) Keep eyes out for offers and have a look in Iceland or FarmFoods for prawns = prawn mayo sandwiches. Nigella Lawson was shown stuffing her face with her favourite snack on one of her cookery shows - three cold cooked fish fingers in a roll, with tartare sauce.

Personally, I always think of Lidl as a deli and you'll find a huge range of cheap but good stuff like huge Cornish pasties, kilo tubs of yummy potato salad, masses of sliced meats, whole salami etc. Lots of cheap cheese for cheese and piccalilli/cheese and Branston, pickled stuff.

Also, have a look for tubs of sandwich filler like egg mayo and coronation chicken which ASDA often does on 2 for offers. However if you buy eggs and hard-boil them and mash with mayo yourself (Poundland sometimes does Hellmanns) you should save money. It would be cheaper to buy Coronation Chicken one than make it yourself though.

Does that help ? If not, post and I will think of more ideas ;)
  • ammonite and kittyears - I smiled when I read your posts because my ex OH had a HUGE appetite - he was (still is!) a fireman and rugby player and would eat all day and all night - His Fire Brigade nickname was Jabba the Hutt (sp!) - I used to take a small loaf out of the wrapper, make it up into butties and then put them back into the wrapper for him to take for his snack, because they got a cooked meal on duty!! He used to eat tubs of Haazen Daz with a teaspoon as if they were a yoghurt and when he had beans on toast he always had 2 large tins on 6 rounds of thick toast. I think that is why I gained so much weight - when we met I thought his portions were gargantuan but gradually mine got more like his....

Edwardia - sorry you were sick - hope you feel okay now.

Lynsey - I agree with the others you are a great Mum!!

I cooked my Aldi beef joint but I have to say it was very tough. When I got it out of the oven I abandoned the idea of having a roast dinner and got some hm curry sauce out of the freezer and added some of the beef to that and we had it with rice. It was very nice but I am very full now!!

Edwardia I just got a book on my Kindle called the low carb revolution and it is really great - very informative for someone like me who is used to the low fat high carb way of eating. Combined with my calorie counter app on the iphone which gives you the protein, fat, carbs and calories in almost any food item in the world, I should have no excuse but to eat more healthily.

Am mildly annoyed because kids scoffed the Boots butties so will have to make packed lunches for tomorrow.

I just ordered a weighted hula hoop off Amazon (with my trade ins money!) so can't wait for it to arrive and start using it. My knee arthritis means I can't walk that far and getting excercise is difficult so that should be okay I hope!

My freezer and cupboards are looking okay still, despite it being the end of the month - I could probably get to the middle of July without doing a big shop - I think I might try!! I will do an inventory later and then a meal plan and will post on how I am doing each day, if you all don't mind!

Jane - have you ever done your meat first in a pressure cooker and finished off in the oven??
    May be worth a try??
The last carvery we had, the beef was really nice and they cooked it in a steam oven - not too sure how much they would cost for home use though - the chef said they cost the pub thousands!!!!!

The king-size duvet set on Grabbit from Homebase for just under £12 is a bargain - not brilliant, but well worth the money.
I've been spending far too much on non-food stuff of late and watching 3 things on ebay tonight. lol
Save with one hand and give it away with the other. :D

Lynsey i was tempted by that bedspread (tempted to buy 2 and make curtains and have 4 pillowcases to match) but i resisted as we don't really 'need' bedding, would have been nice to freshen up our room abit tho.....one day.

Cinema went well, can't remeber who said but we weren't having a party just a wee treat for the kids, we didn't buy a single thing and cliamed our parking back, had homemade fish and chips for tea using whoopsies, cost less than £1 for all if us, me and hubby had breaded cod, kids had fishcakes (which were really nice i tried some to see if they were cool, wish i'd had those instead) with chips and beans.

Today i have awful toothache, had dinner at the inlaws which i could hardly eat, kids had cereal with a plate of oranges and apple slices for tea as they had a big lunch and i'm not feeling great so cba making anything, i'll be making me and hubby soup in abit as i think thats all i could eat, feeling very hot and aswell as having a sore tooth the roof my my mouth is swollen def screams of infection will be phoning dentist at half 8 in the morning for an emergency appointment, given that i'm not making any food plans for tomorrow, i'll prob still only be able to manage soup and if i feel like this the kids will prob be having something quick again and hubby will be fending for himself.

    Evening all.

Went to the folks today and had chicken salad. Managed to get ds to eat a bit more by making him think he was stealing what we wanted to eat from our forks lol. Had my scallops, bacon and cheese pots which were ok... pots will come in useful though!

Today has been officially a NSD... whoop whoop!... acutally, I bought those uniforms, but haven't spent a penny on groceries

Tomorrow is chicken en croute from the freezer. Want to try save up for a few days at the seaside in either August or September. I really need to focus on NOT SPENDING! Probably cost a couple of hundred.

quintwins, it was me who mentioned the party. Realised I'd got you mixed up with Jane lol. Hope you're feeling better soon, get that tooth looked at!

Hope you're feeling better soon Edwardia. x
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Lyndsey, what a lovely thing to do for your son re the hampers and car.

Edwardia, I hope you're feeling better. Eggs can be dodgy things if not cooked through or slightly out of date.

Quintwins, big hugs and I hope your toothache stops asap!

Lip_Stick, when my daughter was born Mum used to constantly go on about how I wasn't feeding my daughter properly because i breastfed her, and when she started weaning I was the worst mum in the world for insisting on giving her fresh food rather than jars. Mum insisted that jars were better because they had "extra" vitamins etc!!

Today was a freebie for me cos I stayed at OH's last night and he cooked a huge breakfast and a roast pork dinner which we ate at 7.30. Followed by cheesecake!!! Absolutely gorgeous. I'm tucked up in bed now totally stuffed full of pork, yorkies, roasties, veg...mmmm!

Did my freezer recheck the other day and with the sausages I bought yesterday (10 finest buy one pack get one free in T's) I have enough dinners for another 2 weeks. Overspent a fair bit the last 4 weeks with buying clothes for holiday, spends for it etc so need to regroup my finances. Gotta sit tomorrow and do my banking...scary but it need doing!

Right, off to sleep. Night all xx

Thanks Edwardia for the suggestions - fish, cheese and eggs aren't meat though (which is what I'd be told by the caveman inside! :rotfl:) Might try and put cheese on his sandwiches along with the meat to fill him up a bit better or get him eating some form of nuts - they have protein in I think!

TOnight will be golden savoury rice with a jacket potato and a tin of tuna and a salad - whether OH likes the fish or not!:D Need to make sure we use the salad before it goes off, that's another tin of tuna used up and a packet of savoury rice. So not good for the freezer, but excellent for the cupboards :T

Mums can get pretty crazy eh, and have some strange idea. When we was on holiday in Spain, ds (who was 2) had had a slice of pizza, some crisps and ice cream. Not very healthy bud Dad refused to stop at anywhere to eat properly as it was too expensive. Mum said he'd not had enough to eat and just went nuts. Shouting and going mental, in a full blown rage. Think half the time tho it was just an excuse to have a go.

ammonite - eggs are supposed to make you feel fuller for longer. Apparently good in a morning when you're on a diet as it stops you snacking.
