This may be off topic a bit but can't see anywhere else to post.

Just found a pack of plaice fillets in my freezer - bought last October (and forgotten, obviously). Would they still be OK or should I bin them?
They will be fine to use Chesky. They would be nice with some home made parsley sauce over them. I can give you my recipe if you don't have one.:)

Thanks you Ms night Ryder, I think I'm going to try tonight tosee if I can get anything. Reading the bargins you lot get has me wanting to see what I can get. :D

thanks for the offer but I've got a wonderful prawn, chilli, tomato and cream sauce I can make to go on them - now I know they're not going to kill me. And thanks for the reassurance.

But I wouldn't mind knowing the parsley sauce, now I come to think of it - not for today but I always like a new recipe.

chesky369 they should be fine and if they're not they will pong as defrosting so you'll know. My mother regularly eats things that are four years old.

Florenceem, chuckled when I read your post because it often takes 48 hrs to defrost stuff in my fridge ! Today I got out of freezer some Tesco back bacon for OH's weekend breakfasts and Monday's rolls (Brie and bacon), a pack of Gressingham duck legs (for dinner tonight hopefully) and the last two steaks from the whole responsibly sourced Scottish salmon I picked up for 14.27 at Sainsbury's fish counter in December. :D

Soworried there's a thread by supermarket staff on YS policies somewhere.

linseyg I will try to PM you a link or something, must admit I got confused trying to find it first time.

ammonite - freezer tetris, love it ! OH is Expert level :)

Maisie M - I called DEFRA and told guy on DEFRA Helpline that these things weren't being labelledby supermarkets properly. He sounded shocked, then looked it up and told me there's an EC Regulation 1829/2003 Food and Feed GMO which states that GM ingredients under 0.9 % in food, plus animals and poultry fed on GM feed DON'T need to be labelled.:mad:
Personally, I want the choice whether to eat it or not. When I saw consultant Monday, he was really pleased that I take so much care with what I eat and said he wished more of his patients did the same. Bottom line I've got diabetes but my blood sugar, blood pressure, cholesterol etc are all normal or better now because of changing my way of eating.

I was cheeky and emailed my MP and asked him to fwd it to the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food to ask if anything can be done to highlight to customers that these animals have been fed GM food.

Sir Terry Leahy (Tesco) is being interviewed on BBC Radio Five Live right now btw

Parsley sauce, I love this over vegetables after they have been roasted as well as fish. Then I just serve with rice.

Melt a knob of butter, then whisk through 20grams of plain flour and a pinch of mustard powder. Slowly add milk while whisking until it is a thick but runny consistency. Bring to the boil and add a large handful of chopped flat parsley leaves.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Moan time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What a nightmare trying to get 1st time insurance for my Son who lives in London.
Understand the issues Kirri had, can't get it under £2,500!!!!

Had to pick up some of the £1 bacon from Morries for Brother and bought myself 3 x 1 litres of peach water for £1.
Probably have a look in Asda again later and get some of the £3 per litre Chardonnay which sadly does NOT look like being a national offer.
Check Sainsbury's later also and regarding reducing in Sainsbury's, my local changes - used to reduce right down at around 8,45pm, but now sometimes at around 7.30pm ...................... awkward B******s.
Still need fruit and veg and eggs.

  • Had to be in work really early today and the office is near to Asda so I had a look round and got some more 20p mango chutney, 25p spicy green rice (which is fab!!), 25p wholemeal pasta, organic sweet and sour (50p), veg bake (25p) but sadly none of the baking stuff was less than full price.

DIdn't have time for breakfast this morning and then was in meetings without a break until 3.15 so on the way home I drove into McD's and got myself 6 chicken nuggets - I was good though and didn't get anything else! I am just about to make myself a cup of tea and then will make steak, spicy rice (Asda one 25p) sweetcorn and peas for dinner for DD1 and I. DD2 is having vegetable curry with naans and mango chutney.

Ms_night_ryder I didn't know you were pregnant! Congratulations - when are you due?

Edwardia - I am paranoid about GM stuff too. Am I right in thinking that Ocado/Waitrose do not allow it to be used in anything made or them or any meat they sell? Another thing I am starting to get worried about is plastic - I was reading the other day that chemicals leech out of plastic containers in the microwave and I always micro stuff in lock and locks - I think I might start to only replace with glass or ceramic in future. I already try not to drink from plastic bottles.

1st time insurance for £2500 isn't that bad Lynsey. I live near Liverpool and it is silly prices here! it is more for boys than girls - my friend's son got a Corsa and the best quote he could get (aged 18) was just on £8000:eek: DD2 is now 21 and pays £1000 - she paid £1500 in her first year though. Some companies won't insure anyone in Liverpool - Sheila's Wheels insured me for years and then last year told me that they weren't insuring in my area.

Have just come into a load of work e-mails and missed calls and voicemails so had better set to again!

recovering xx Don't know Ocado's policy. Waitrose's is NO GM ingredient in any own brand stuff and NO GM feed to animals/poultry for ANY own brand stuff.

I drink Evian all the time but don't have a microwave they're not much good for proper cooking

    Planning! :(
Always think about the next day's dinner before you go to bed so stuff comes out of the freezer in time. :D

To be honest, sometimes i just don't want to plan hat I eat, I have. Roughidea and that's all I need, I dont like to be too regimented with food, if i changemy mind then its changed, no amount of planning will change that.

Chicken in sc, do the rest later.

    Off to Zumba, can't wait.
