    'ello again

Went to Asda for rice as I think I've only got a small amount in. Happened to see that they'd put some ragu out. Bought 6 jars at 40p. Giving one to my bro and planned to give one to sis but she doesn't like it, so prolly give bro two.

Also bought bro some sausage and bean & beef and tomato seasoning mixes, as well as a couple for myself of course. Shame I forgot the rice!!!

Spoke to sis and she's coming over for her tea on Friday evening as she won't see ds for a while with the folks being on holiday so will have to change the menu. May get out the venison.

    [STRIKE]
Sunday - Lunch Soup, Tea Cumberland pie and veg
Monday - HM Bolognese from freezer[/STRIKE]
Tuesday - chicken tonight with rice
    Wednesday - Kung po chicken
Thursday - Apricot stuffing things with veg
Friday - Venison but subject to change
    Saturday - Rack of Lamb
Sunday - not sure if ds is with me or his dad so will plan later.
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.
  • A lovely day here today! Had two boiled eggs and wholemeal toast for breakfast and am off to my hospital appointment in a minute, so looking forward to my Asda visit afterwards - hope there are still some bargains to be had!

Gave DD2 a peanut butter and banana sandwich for lunch, with one of the flapjacks that I made and froze yesterday, and I will probably not have any lunch because I am quite full after the eggs. Might have a yoghurt.

Dinner tonight is likely to be meatballs (cooked and not used on Sunday) either in subs or with spaghetti, and salad DD2 can have hummus and carrots and possibly a couple of falafels in a pitta. She is really enjoying her vegetarian diet and is eating more healthily as she is terrified of having anything not suitable for vegetarians! I must say that I like veggie food alot - I want to go to Simon Rimmer's Greens restaurant in Didsbury but it's a bit of a far way to go!!

Edwardia on the subject of natural or greek yoghurt - I know you might not do it from a carb point of view but if you stir a tsp of cornflour into a cup of yoghurt before you add it to sauces, it stablises it and you can boil it without it splitting. I do it all the time when I am making korma style curries and beef strogonoff.

Lip_stick - hope your ds is fine getting his gromits in. It's only a day case though isn't it?

    Well best get on!!

Lynsey - congrats for your son. Sounds like he has been working hard and deserves a break.

Lipstick - hope DS gets on okay on friday. Its horrible when littlies have to get an op. DS1 had an op when he was one and it was the most traumatic thing I have ever gone through. I felt so helpless when he was in the theatre and was so relieved when he was out.

edwardia - glad you eye exam went better than you expected yesterday.

ooops DS2 just woken from his nap. catch everyone else later.

Yes, he does deserve a break and luckily he's doing something he's very enthusiastic about, which is a help.
Not just him, but a lot of students/graduates have been "kicked in the teeth" by the recession and suffered. The film industry (like other industries) took a "dive" around the time he graduated and appears to be picking up, people are investing now after a lull. His enthusiasm and commitment should see him through, though I always feared for a "kid" from a "working class" background getting the breaks in a big city like London. Just a bit sad he's missed/wasted three years, but without going into an epic story, in a strange way the recession did give a little piece of luck - weird!!

One of my laptops has stopped working (possible motherboard issue??) - so could miss out on coupons.
Hope it doesn't cost much to be repaired.

Need to make that pastry, catch up later and fingers crossed for Jane's update.

Thank you all for the best wishes and congratulations on my eye exam results. Being told that I don't need laser treatment has given me a big grin on my face !

Lip_Stick hope the DS' grommits go OK and you get out in time to see torch..alternatively, could you nip and see it and take pix for DS if he's in theatre, to show him when he wakes up ??

soworried..what about bangers and bubble and squeak to use up the mash ?

recovering_spendaholic - hope the appt goes well today, you certainly did yourself healthy breakfast there to keep you going. Cornflour is too carby for me, but I read that 1 tsp of arrowroot will do the work of 1 tbsp cornflour so I got some for 59p and will try your tip with that thanks xx

OH getting weird abt food. He doesn't low carb so I'm fine with buying him spuds, sweet potatoes, parsnips (only veg I don't eat) but he then doesn't eat them and they get wasted. He loves Soreen malt loaf and Jaffa cakes so I buy them for him and he then moans and doesn't eat them. He tells me to buy organic whenever poss so I do. Then he moans that I've bought him organic basmati rice. He wanted to do more curries so I bought loads of stuff from Spices of India and so far he's done just one. I don't like wasting food or money  I dunno what's going on in his head. :( Any ideas ? I'm not forcing him to low carb, he's got pasta, rice etc and sweets and oven chips etc.

being working class from the country doesnt have anything to do with anything! i was born and raised in london and constantly meet people from all over england/world people of different cultures and classes, never have i heard them say, i hope you dont judge me on my background, people in london dont really give a damn, its more when i go out in the countryside etc, that people will start judging you, but seriously i have never in my 29 years heard what you described being an issue and i am always all over london. london is too much of a melting pot

I have however been in the film industry, which in general is hard, i have worked at pinewood and i have worked on the eastenders set, films that went to cannes etc as a hair and make up artist, all when i was younger, i however got out of the industry as i felt that i wouldnt be able to make a living for a few years, in the beginning its all about, working for experience etc i wasnt able to do this so got out.

going to have the remainder of the pork for lunch, with the rice, no veg is prepped, kickboxing later.

Thanks for your post, and understand where you are coming from regarding work experience etc.
In the beginning, he couldn't get paid work until he got the experience and to get the experience he had to work for free initially, then £30/£50 per day and so on until he gained the contacts, which thankfully he did and where his hard work has paid off. Not an easy industry to break through.
My main fear TBH was getting through the door with no contacts within the family. I did fear "nepotism" and to a degree he has suffered through it.
But yes, he hasn't been "judged" as such and a lot of the people he has met have come from similar backgrounds and made it. He was actually recommended once as being from the "old school".
I've since been to London many times since he's lived there and yes, it's not all about the "City" and the "Money Men".

    Enough of that...............

............. my deep-dish pie is in and 7 apples used!!

Can't as he'll only be under about 20 mins then I've to wait at his bedside until he wakes up, which last time was about an hour. I'll take his pram so hopefully we'll catch it once he gets released as it will be around that area, depending on how he feels after of course.

Re: your other half... do you think he's seen how good your diet has done you, so wants to do it in a half hearted way, but won't admit it? lol

Thanks hun. Yeah it is horrible. The last time he had them done, he was sat on my knee facing me when they injected the anesthetic. I could see him going sleepy then he pulled a horrible pained expression when he fall to sleep. I just wanted to wake him up and ask if he was ok and cuddle him.

Thanks and yep, hopefully he'll be out around tea time. Good luck for your appointment! x

Jane - hope the hospital appt goes okay.

Soworried - hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Ms night ryder - sounds interesting to have worked as a make up artist. Enjoy your kickboxing.

Had an NSD yesterday but had to get a few bits today. Only got what was on my list though so pleased with that. DS had a lovely birthday yesterday and enjoyed his homemade 'MacDonalds' chicken nuggets and chips lol. Few bits finished from the freezer yesterday and lamb casserole taken out for tonight. Have also taken out some stewing steak to make a beef casserole which will give me one meal for me and DH and a few for DS2. Im going to use up some tinned toms which I have stashed and a couple of peppers which I bought last week to make stuffed peppers but forgot we would be eating out for DS1's birthday on Saturday.

Think I might start thinking about next weeks menu so I can tinker with it before I do my main shop on Friday.

veg, DS1 chicken nuggets, chips and veg, DS2 –chicken, broccoli and
    rice

[/STRIKE]Tuesday: adults - lamb casserole with new potates DS1 - lamb kebabs, new potatoes and mixed veg, DS2 – lamb casserole

Wednesday: Adults - goulash and rice, DS1 - out with beavers, DS2 – fish pie

Maisie M - 100% impressed with your commitment to meal planning and sticking to it.

Lip_Stick - nice to see your weeks meal plan also - good luck.

1 parcel just arrived and looks like that's it for the day - waiting for 3 more and hoping all would be delivered today. Maybe tomorrow??

Groupon meal booked for Thursday, so helps with a meal.

Cant' be bothered to go out, so might miss Sainsbury's tonight and settle for another NSD (short on bread now and veg). Start shopping from tomorrow.
