I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge
Comments

Morning all - have still not managed to do much on the housework front - I have a hospital appointment tomorrow and am stressing about it and when I am worried I tend to shut down and only want to eat and sleep! I think I may get a date for my operation:eek:
I made dough in the BM last night but as I said I forgot the water - so I just threw it in with a bit of extra yeast and set it running again - the resulting dough wasn't bad but was much more sticky than usual and the pittas were a bit "rustic" looking! Edwardia - yes you can make rolls but not IN the breadmaker - you make the dough in the breadmaker and it comes out all risen and ready to shape into rolls, which you then bake in the oven. I tend to make rolls or pittas as they keep better than a large loaf, half of which I usually end up making into breadcrumbs (or binning but don't tell Flo!)
Breakfast was porridge and toasted pitta, gave DD2 cheese and tomato pitta and a frozen muffin out of the freezer (should be defrosted by lunch), and DD1 will buy her lunch at work.
Dinner tonight will be pasta bake using the wholemeal pasta from Asda with a tomato sauce, with meatballs for me and DD1 and veggie meatballs or sausages for DD2.
I have a small Tesco order coming shortly - I decided to do an online shop as I thought it would stop impulse buying, as I mostly wanted dog food, cleaning stuff etc. It cost £40 and had a code for delivery so not bad. I also included some veggie bits for DD2.
I am leaving going to Asda until tomorrow as there is a HUGE Asda by the hospital and I will go in and have a root for rtc stuff in there after my appointment.
Soworried glad things are looking up!Jane
ENDIS. Employed, no disposable income or savings!0 -
Soworried - well done on your savings and using things up. You were always confident though.
Jane - fully understand your stress, especially after the last time. Hope all goes well this time.
NSD so far ........................ but did "buy"...................
2 x L'Oreal moisterisers for £2.00 each = £4.00
1 x Country Life butter on offer = £1.00
Total = £5.00
2 x £2.50 L'Oreal skincare coupons deducted
Total to pay = £0.00 :j
Blended in nicely with my Brother's shopping. lol
That's under £6.00 spent in money since Wednesday night, but may spend later if any bargains.
Possibly another NSD tomorrow, unless Sainsbury's have anything "interesting" for pence, but will need to spend on Wednesday.
Only 5 days to go until cheap chocolate day.

ms_night_ryder - thank you for reminding me about Groupon. Checked my vouchers today and one has to be used by 16/06!!!
Need to book it for later in the week, maybe Wednesday??
Only cost £2 with the £8 credit, but may as well use it.
Decent Italian we've been to before.
Good news at last!!
Son has phoned and he's landed his biggest job so far, bless him.
He's freelance and works on filming/cameras for films, commercials etc, and struggled as he graduated during the recession peak, so about 3 years lost sadly.
He's getting on well now and has made some great contacts and things are now moving (he did a bit of work on Fast Girls out this week).
Gives him 3 months work now and a chance to get more work for the future, a bit stability. Not an easy game as you need to be "in the know", but his hard work is paying off - God is he excited!!

Today so far - had HM apricot crumble/custard for brekkie.
Morning tea break - HM sultana muffin with a cup of tea.
Lunch - Egg/half a piece of HM bread - toasted + a tomato/1/4 tin of baked beans with a dash of Peri Peri sauce added plus freshly ground black pepper. I had 4 small roast potatoes left over from last night - deliberately cooked a few extra - put in fridge for our lunch. I cut up/fried these potatoes off so used one ring/pan and nuked the beans in the MW while warming the plates. Small dash of cheapo brown sauce - yummy. Also had a satsuma and a cup of tea.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Hey Florenceem
absolutely right planning is the key!! I normally plan our meals with military precision! :rotfl:
problem is last few weeks have snapped up "bargains" without thinking about how to fit into freezer, so taken other things out but has ended up as a bit of a false econonmy as not actually got through everything before it has gone off! Also had a few last minute invites out/change of plans which has meant some defrosted bits went to waste
I hate wasting things so wasnt best pleased but at the same time dont want to be unsocial or too rigid ... will plan better next time! have also bought some "ready" meal type stuff for freezer to try and have some "last minute" meals in so previously planned defrosted stuff doesnt go to waste if there is a last minute change of plans!! (all on offer and with coupons so v cheap freezer fill too!)
Lunch today l/o wraps with salad and tuna, crisps and last of cake in the house!
Dinner- something foraged from freezer and salad , yogurt for desert
tomorrow have eggs, bread and milk to use up ... oooo might make french toast for breakkie!0 -
Had "mystery meat" last night which turned out to be the last of the lamb chops. I'm certain they've been in the freezer at least 2 years. Tasted OK though. I had that classic and well known dish "lamb and supernoodles"
- cupboards are finally beginning to have space again, freezer still jam packed but slowly getting through the meat.

I'm hoping so. Just did one last week and 1st for a while due to holidays. Still got 2 to use up, so need to stock up on Groupons - another 4 would be nice.

Can I ask what this is please?:TWhen you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying!:rotfl:

Had to get up early for hospital appt this morning so no breakfast. OH muddled up hospital locations, ended up walking literally miles so didn't get breakfast before appt either. After drops and scans, consultant told me I don't need laser treatment right now and he'll monitor my eyes and see me in January. Soooo relieved :j Thanks to everyone's best wishes
Got bus into town centre - Carluccio's want 9.79 for scrambled egg with Parma ham on ciabatta  Went to BHS, got two cooked breakfasts plus water and coffee for £10 but have to say not greatest breakfast ever.
OH got Blue Harbour jeans 9.50 in Marks and Spencer, we picked up a few non-food items in Poundland and Wilkinson, and I picked up an American low carb cookbook in Oxfam. Went to Lakeland and once the asst explained that he couldn't make rolls entirely in the breadmaker, OH lost interest, which saved 139.99
Had lunch in Pizza Hut only had salad, OH tucked into the pasta buffet tho.
recovering_spendaholic hope your appt tomorrow goes well xx
Lynsey you must be so proud of DS :T
quintwins we have a silver notebook as the freezer stock book and write in new stuff that goes in and cross off stuff going out and that helps.0
