  • Terrible day here - wind and rain and really cold! for the last few days DD2 has been saying that she wants to become a vegetarian and we had a talk about it last night and I agreed to cook veggie for her as long as she was prepared to try and eat healthily.

tonight I made courgette and mozarella penne - it was easy to make and really delicious. I would think that I could become a veggie if all the meals were this tasty. I just fried a sliced courgette in a tiny bit of oil and then added 6 halved cherry tomatoes, a bit of balsamic vinegar, water, red wine vinegar and a pinch of salt and sugar. Then I added a bit of tomato puree, pinch of dried herbs, tbs of grated parmesan and a bit of black pepper. I then poured the whole lot over some boiled penne and put into a pyrex dish and broke up a little ball of mozarella over the top and baked for about 10 - 15 minutes. It was really nice and we all enjoyed it which is unusual in our house!

Last night a friend brought me round a huge bag of home grown potatoes. I peeled and boiled them and then made a whole load of mash and froze it in portions - there is enough for about 12 meals!!

I went to Aldi this afternoon but was very restrained and only spent about £5 on necessities. got some really nice smelling shampoo for 59p - hope it is good!

I don't know what to make for tomorrow - I am doing Chicken breasts with mash and veg for me and DD1 but don't know what to do for DD2. Does anyone know how to make hummus? I have loads of dried chick peas so could soak them tonight.

Is it true that Mr t don't accept internet vouchers any more or is it just my store?

I think it's either your store or even just the s/a being "picky".
Every now and then you do get a s/a asking a supervisor if they take internet coupons and even the coupons specifically for Tesco!!
Very, very rarely do I get an issue now, but you do get to know your "favourite" s/a's eventually.
Sometimes it pays to use the self-scan tills and ask the s/a if they will put them through manually as you ARE buying the product (Sainsbury's s/s till I put through the coupons myself - up to £2.50 and ask the s/a for help if they won't scan or need to be put through manually).

No bargains tonight in Sainsbury's worth buying, so only bought some Cravendale and a pack of TTD jumbo prawns.
    Milk £1 minus 50p coupon = 50p
    Prawns (supposed to be half-price) - £2.50
    £3 spent tonight
    £5.96 spent today
£16.18 for the week - cheap week.

£25 max again for next week and need a few things like veg. Try and get any bread products for 30p max (10p/20p where possible).
I've got a £5 voucher to use in Morries and a £1.50 voucher for Tesco, so that will help. Plenty of Cravendale coupons left, so cheap Cravendale all this month and half of July. I need to keep around £6.00 for the chocolate next Saturday. :D

Toast and jam again tomorrow, burger in a bun and main meal cottage pie (all made) - nice easy day - just need a bit sun.

Was it the s/a that wouldn't allow it or would it not scan??
The ones that won't scan can set alarm bells ringing at times.
I think you were probably just unlucky with your store and/or s/a.

So i had the chicken breast and pittas, decided to have a pizza for dinner, got 50% off using voucher cloud, so £11.25 spent on a 12 inch pizza, chicken wings, onion rings and Ben and jerrys small tub Of strawberry cheesecake yum yum.

Also taken out a. Whoopsied pork belly joint thing, have just now decided I will slow cook it and use a sweet and sour sauce 20p from Asda, I will either have it with a cheesy pasta or a tub of egg fried rice in the freezer that I got whoopsied,I will take out the 2 pints of milk tomorrow and use some to mix up a aero desert I have In the cupboards, also have it with green beans and carrots and fruit for brekkie and 2 slices of todays pizza for lunch, put 3 slices of the pizza in the freezer.

I have the milk to use up and also a big bag of potatoes and cheese tgat need using, at some point I will bulk make some mash to freeze and some mac and cheese to use up the milk as i really don't drink it and potatoes often go off because I never use them in time, even though I took the pork joint out, it hasn't made that much difference to the meat drawer,I still have 4 finest burgers, 4 drumsticks, 2 packs sausages, pork mince, Bacon, 2 chicken breast in bacon, so a fair few meals.

Few more weeks before I do a meat shop In Costco.

It was the Jaffa Cake bars Lynsey yes. £1.10 for five - I agree...they are tiny, glad they were free, they will taste so much better :D

Will check out the L'oreal coupons too thank you :D I won some free cherry bakewells via a facebook competition posted on here somewhere but can't remember which thread or which board, sorry :o

The coupon was used in Asda self-scan, there was some kerfuffle but the SA decided if it scanned I could have it. So I got it :D

Very good night (sort of) freezer wise....got lots of chicken out and made a honey & mustard chicken (5 portions, ate one, froze 4) and tomato & chilli chicken (3 portions, ate one, froze 2). I used all my potatoes (sliced and fried, yum but terrible for the waist!) which we ate for dinner. Then peeled and boiled some (4 portions) for the freezer. So although the freezer is completely full again (had to take bread out to make room), I feel I've done well using the fresh stuff up :D

Also used a tin of mushrooms, handful of frozen peppers, handful of frozen peas, jar of Homepride sauce and jar of Lloyd Grossman sauce. Shocked to say the tin/jar cupboard now has space!!!!!!

Not sure what is for dinner tonight yet. I'm awake far too early though I know that!

morning all, off to a good start, had turkey from the freezer, used a thai sweet chilli sauce packet and some carrots and boiled potatoes. Was really good!
Breakfast will be a cereal bar and some dried fruit for the kids, hoping they will enjoy something different. (Im trying not to go to the shop and buy bread, in case i end up buying something else!! I think I have enough bread to make lunches for my kids tomorrow.)
DH and myself are going to start working my way through the large array of crackers we have...
    :)
for lunch, im going to do bacon, sausage and poached egg. Got lots of random sausages in the freezer, and about 4 rashers of bacon.
Not thought far enough ahead for tea yet!
Still got veg to use up so maybe see if there are any chops or similar in the freezer, might even make some yorkshire puddings!
    enjoy your day everyone :)

    Morning.

lynneee - where are you going on holiday??

Talking about coupons/vouchers - next Sunday is Father's Day - treat your Dad to a free pint (John Smith's or Carlsberg) if you have a participating pub near you - (print off as many as you need)!!

    I posted the info HERE

Check Sainsbury's later and that's it for the day.

Morning all - today I have defrosted some mince and a homemade curry for tomorrows meals - even though I can't really see it - I know an indent has been made. I have so much food in there - I could probably eat for a couple of months from it (plus the cupboard stuff) only buying fresh fruit and veg, but of course it never happens. I tell myself that next month will be cheap as I have all the makings of meals but why does that never work out? One of lifes great mysteries.
    I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!
