Morning all. Looks a lovely day outside but have been told by the ex that it's going to be torrential later.

Had my minced pork in lettuce wraps last night. Realised after I was washing up that I forgot to add the lime that I bought.

Not sure about meals today. Might just have chicken wrap again, or prawns on salad leaves for lunch and chili later on.

Got my course later so need to do a bit before I head out, hopefully I won't spend much but could do with some spring onions. Went into Asda yesterday and they were manky, all brown liquid in the packets.

Lip_Stick I love the cooking & baking stuff in TKMaxx, find Wilkinsons good as well.

Thanks, will have a look in there when I'm in town next.
Evening all - made a bit of a mistake on the woopsie front last night. Thought it was a bag of soup mix reduced from 79p to 9p so bought the 3 bags, but when I got them home its carrot and swede mix. I threw them in the freezer until I had time to think - so - just wondered could I use these in a soup? any ideas what I can do with them (i don't like it usually so would need to mix it with other ingredients - lol!!!) Thanks.

Would have thought they'd be ok for soup, also could you make a mash with them? Lot healthier than mashed potato.

There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Just got a lovely local Living Social offer.
I had a £5 credit off the M&S voucher deal, so just bought an offer for 4 slices of cake and 4 coffees. They don't have to be used in a single visit, so should make city centre shopping more enjoyable.
Deal was £9, so only £4 to pay (using credit) - works out at 50p per slice of cake and 50p per coffee. Still one £5 credit left on another account, but waiting for a nice Itilian or Chinese meal offer.
Still got 2 Groupons and 1 Living Social offers to use and probably use one on Monday, saves messing about.

Lip_Stick - the east side of the country looks ok, hope your ex is wrong about the rain though, I want to do my borders this afternoon!!

Off to Ikea soon, catch up later.

Arghh don't mention borders Lynsey. I was eyeing up ours in the front when I got the bins in earlier and they are the shame of the street. :o

One tiddly border, no more that 8" wide and 15' long but its record
breaking the amount of weeds that gather there. :(

Having one of our reduced quiches later with some tats from the mountain and some veg that needs using up in the fridge.

Very low on salad now, which is a pain, so I'll have to survive more on hot veg till Friday or Saturday shopping.
Aiming for a goal of £20 only for shopping next week. That'll be interesting.

Why do people keep speaking about crisp sandwiches and dunking chocolate? I'm trying to lose weight, I mustn't be thinking along these lines. :p

    Afternoon all.

I havent had breakfast, so gonna have lunch, prob a chicken drumstick and a bit of rice, i have decided not to make the muffins and lemon drizzle cake just yet, simple because i have alot of food left to use up, so no sense making more, plus i have no space in the freezer to put any cakes, so right now it doesnt make sense, i have a pineapple to peel, so thats breakfast for the rest of the week, still have a bit of gammon left 1-2 meals and 3 drumsticks left.

just need to go po today, may go to the shop for a packet of crisps, nothing else needed.

abitofhelp - sad about the weather, holding up in the North East at the moment, but getting cloudier. I fear rain later, but managed to get a little gardening done and we've just cemented in a bird bath.

Ikea was very busy for breakfast and a great bargain at 99p plus free hot drinks. If I lived on the doorstep I would venture in more often - not massive, but ample and just enough.

We've got to go to the tip shortly, so might print off some more coupons and try Tesco and Sainsbury's.

cheerfulness4 - the weeds seemed to have a bumper year this year and are thriving, probably down to the warm March weather. Dandelions all over the place in next door's garden and a few in our borders.

Save Dosh - I sometimes put grated carrot in my spag bol.

Wow just started slamming down with rain here and its been really nice and sunny up till now. Felt the temp drop like a stone.
    Still light and bright, though.

I've pulled out some soup mix packets that I bought some time ago but I've never tried using them before. Do you need to soak them first like pulses or do you just add them straight to a soup?
Think its got pearl barley, lentils, peas etc in it.

Soup mix technically doesn't need soaking; its not going to poison you if you don't (although the usual advice to rapid boil for 10 minutes still applies). However it will take much, much longer to cook, up to 3 or 4 hours. If you soak it, it will take an hour or so. You can use the quick soak method, put the soup mix in a pan with plenty of water, boil rapidly for 10 minutes (some versions of the method say 2 minutes) then leave to soak covered for 2 hours. xx

Tonights offering is lentil dhal with roti, am going to add a final hot 'dressing' at the end using melted vitalite, various whole and ground spices from my cupboard; some nishaan garlic and ginger puree (the absolute best in my opinion) and some frozen coriander cubes I got on offer in Sainsbobs the other day. The rotis are nishaan brand as well; much nicer than other ready made rotis/chapattis and they freeze really well too-I bought these ones a month or so ago. xx
