  • Recovering Spendaholic - ive never heard the word before, just got definition off google. I think bargain hunters are savvy people who are looking after the pennies, and why not, i love my bargains and ys but don't relate to that definition.

1st spend of the week and not loads of exciting stuff reduced, but got some.

    Sainsbury's:
    2 x Vitalite £1.80 for 2 and used 2 x 30p coupons = £1.20
    2 x 2 pint bags of milk and yet another free jug-it = £1.00
    2 x yellow peppers reduced to 10p each = 20p
    Chicken lasagne reduced to 69p (from £2.10) = 69p
    Warburtons loaf reduced to 20p (from 70p) = 20p
Pack of rump steak £1.49 (reduced from £4.00) - £1.49
    2 x Dr Oetker continental chocolate 44p each (reduced from £1.79p each) = 88p

    Total = £5.66

Steak and lasagne in freezer and I'll chop up the peppers later to freeze (loads and should have got more).

Dinner in oven, sliced pork in onion gravy with mash, carrots, peas and sweetcorn and some stuffing ............... I've not had a little stuffing in ages (sage and onion I'm talking about!!).

recovering spendaholic ..foods with a lot of protein are venison 30g per 100g, pumpkin seeds 28.8g, cheese 30.9g, soya beans 35.9g, tinned tuna fish 26.3g (tinned more than fresh, strangely).

Holland & Barrett may still be doing the buy one get one for a penny deal, I picked up pumpkin seeds last week. ASDA and Morrisons both do venison grill steaks and burgers (ASDA own brand, Morrisons stocks Highland Game). Tuna is on offer all the time everywhere usually. Re: cheese I'd suggest looking at the labels but ypu can usually find some cheese on offer somewhere. Sainsbury's does tinned soya beans I think.

    hope that helps x

blackandwhitebunny I have Portmeirion too but the plain white. I pick up black, white and silver china for my kitchen in charity shops and junk shops - once got a dresserful of white Johnson Brothers for £10 - most people want patterned I think.

Lynsey my mother always swears by Sainsbury's (except for ASDA pizza) but I haven't thoroughly explored my nearest stores (two within 2 miles) for ages so thanks will investigate further.

VfM congratulations !!!! That's brilliant, six weeks, wow

Edwardia - I personally think that of the BIG 4, Sainsbury's have by far the best quality with fresh stuff and meat comes under that - a "poor man's" M&S. lol
Even Sainsbury's reduced fruit and veg seems to last ages.
Can't compare with Waitrose and we only have a small one and quite a distance.

    Lynsey

I must have cross posted with you earlier-. I'm also fussy about meat, fish and fruit and veg and must say I also find Sainsburys by far the best. The have the best range of organic meat and chicken of the big four, I'm nowhere near a waitrose so can't comment on theirs. Their fish is all from sustainable sources and although everthing I buy from the fish counter is YS I still find it very fresh - I know some people have had problems with Morrisons fish. The lad on the fish counter says they only display it for two days and then reduce it on the second afternoon. Their basics veg and salad stuff is all very good. The basics fruit is a bit hit or miss but they have some great bargains, fantastic black grapes at 98p lately. I never buy their TTD fruit at full price but always find they last for a few days still.

They sell the white at the King street shop now, I've thought of getting some of the plates with just the leaves around to mix and match with the flowers but have given up the idea as I have no storage space left. I started to collect the eden flowers things for eveyday use but only got a few bits and they've never released it here - only in the states so we use those bits and duplicate motifs of the botanic. I have a few bits of the pomona and the eden fruits = all bought on super special.

I'm with your mum on that:D

The loch trout fillet was even bigger than expected 1kg in fact :D I cut it into two big pieces and grilled it as I decided earlier, skin side up first and then smeared the top with chilli pesto till done. It was lovely:) DH and I ate one whole piece between us, but we did only have it with salad. I'm thinking of making fish cakes with the leftovers using sweet potato instead of ordinary potato. I thought it would go well with the chilli. The whole piece was £4.50 on Sainsburys markedown by the way and would probably have done two meals for four less greedy people :o I will try and freeze some of the fishcakes I promise :o
I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly :D

Edwardia your posts really do make me laugh sometimes! I Dont think you realise how funny you are.

Recovering that is a lot to eat, lol and this is supposed to be diet? High protein, I hope it works, by the sound of it you need to be eating loads of fish and pumpkin seeds.

Saving, I think we were all saying scaff as a mick take, nothing serious, we all know what we are here, we get bargains, but I've heard if anyone in this thread savagely attacking or hurting someone for a whoopsie, we are all quite lighthearted about it and civilised, its nice.

After Zumba, I went to Mr s, but seem to have missed the whoopsies crowd, there were a few packs of walls meatballs left, I took one and some Bacon and cheese crisps, gone straight into freezer, with a bag of milk, so its back to being full again, also bought a reduced gammon Shank from deli a pineapple, some high juice, a pack of wotsits and a muffin tin, so that's lunches sorted for this week.

Made the coma chicken, have 3 drumsticks left and a portion of rice, will put that in fridge to use on Wednesday for lunch and dinner, going to make my muffins and a lemon drizzle cake, going to visit my grandma so will bring her some of both tor her to try, I love bringing her stuff.

Ahh - I was thinking you thought it meant a bargain hunter, yes its good to be able to take yourself lightly. I notice you go Zumba, im starting next week, god help me !!!

Well, i made TITH for the first time, it was a bit bland, needed seasoning, and the batter needed longer cooking inside, but will defo give it another try another time.

We had HM chilli wedges with pork spare rib and roasted vegetables - beetroot, onions and red cabbage for dinner.
Nothing going in the freezer tonight but a small tub of crumble and a muffin coming out. Hard to see where the space is.

ms_night_ryder um if I thought I was funny that would make me a big head or a comedian, probably both. So er thanks, I think..

I'm leaving MSE now though because I'm tired of people on other threads taking pot shots at me because (a) I low carb (b) I shop at Waitrose as well as Lidl (c) I don't feed myself and husband on stuff from Approved Foods and (d) after spending a week in hospital on a drip with blood from my stomach exiting my posterior like a bad TOTM I'm not overly keen to ever get food poisoning again so don't YS much - and last time I did I got the ammonia fish courtesy of Morrisons.

So thanks you're lovely and wish you all moneysaving success xxx
  • Edwardia - don't let other silly people chase you off:( I think a lot of us have chosen to post only on the threads that are full of friendly and supportive people. There is room for all sorts of different approaches on here and most of us are adult enough to agree to disagree without being nasty about it and those that aren't are saying more about themselves than about the posters they are rude to.
    Don't go - we'll miss you:(
