Lip_Stick - hope all is well and you feel better quick.
Florenceem - do you not use coupons?? Great savings on toiletries, quite a few free. No end of the coupons either, they just keep coming and coming.
abitofhelp - you're meal choices do sound nice.
Been gardening most of today, but just had a bit drizzle and looks like rain is on the way. Not too bad though, not as bad as expected.
Off to Sainsbury's soon for some milk and a look, never checked the BH opening hours, but should be ok.

OH was in Sainsbury's earlier cos bored. He picked up a half leg of lamb joint for the freezer on special offer and a pork crackling joint on offer for the freezer as well.
On impulse he bought a pack of 2 Sainsbury's Taste The Difference ribeye steaks for lunch (£9.18). I realise that some people on this thread could make 9.18 feed a family of four for a month, but as it says on my signature, he's the spender.
As an experiment he pan-fried mine in ghee and I had it with green salad plus cottage cheese and radishes. He had his grilled with leftover barbecue beans from his KFC Friday night and some of his not so secret stash of McCain's oven chips from the freezer.
Verdict: However cooked, very tender and juicy. Makes me think that the practice of adding water to everything to supposedly prevent it from drying up when grilled is nowt but a con to add more weight !
I'm sitting there thinking why are we buying cheap steak from Lidl and Tesco that is tough as old boots and feeding it to the dog. OH pronounces: " That's it, no more cheap meat ".
I'm kinda alarmed, thinking well that blows my food budget out of the water. OH started adding up the cost of the stuff we no longer buy like instant coffee, diet Pepsi, Rice Krispies, pizza, crisps, biscuits, Pot Noodles, pasta etc etc and well I was shocked and delighted to see that yes, we can now afford to eat really good meat.0 -
Edwardia - I personally think that of the BIG 4, Sainsbury's have by far the best quality with fresh stuff and meat comes under that - a "poor man's" M&S. lol
Even Sainsbury's reduced fruit and veg seems to last ages.
Can't compare with Waitrose and we only have a small one and quite a distance.

I've been up to my MIL to sort out her moggies as she's away and popped into Sainsbugs as I was out anyway. Not much worth scaffing (not at least 50% off) I only bought a pack of 4 Rachel's yoghurts for 84p instead of £1.80. I had a few coupons to use though so got 4 pure deodrants, two lots of kleenex facial tissues and two lots of their cleansing wipes and then two packs of loreal cleansing wipes and a posh cleansing milk. the wipes were 13p each and the cleanser 16p - definitely worth it.:D
I've taken some loch trout fillet out of the freezer, I thought it was a pack with two small pieces in but its one great piece, about half a side. I'm going to grill it skin side up and then turn it and spread some chilli pesto that needs using on the other side and grill till done. The leftovers will go for fishcakes tomorrow.I was off to conquer the world but I got distracted by something sparkly

Hi all!
I can't believe I've actually done it - 6 weeks w/o a supermarket shop - although I have bought a little fruit and veg from the stall - which means that all the processed food in my kitchen has now gone. Will do a big shop tomorrow and fill my empty glass jars with chickpeas, gram flour, semolina, rice, dahls, flour, bulgar wheat....the list just goes on. Am going to assess my spice / condiment supplies too and do one big shop to last me the year. Then off to Sainsbos - it will be whoopsie time by then! - to get some bread and milk. Will repot my windowsill herb garden one evening this week, am looking to bury a clove of garlic in there too so I won't have to buy that again either.
Am v unimpressed with HB's comments about scaffing. With the ridiculous price of food these days, we do what we can to afford luxuries. The vast majority of what I will eat in the next 12 months will be home-made, and I still expect to have lots of pulses and grains left over.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Hope is not a strategy...A child is for life, not just 18 years....Don't get me started on the NHS, because you won't win...I love chaz-ing!

LynseyRe other toiletries - I only use simple soap or generic one. Not a make up person and get perfume as gifts. DD got me a lovely perfume for Mothering Sunday this year. :j I also get hand cream as gifts - same DD as the perfume one - bought me Molton Brown hand cream for Christmas :j - I love it. Such luxury but wouldn't dream of buying it myself.

They're much better than a lot of the other places and since they took over the spode and royal worcester designs the seconds for these are much better too, they used to be dreadful.

Save Dosh - i didn't realise that scaffing was such a derogatory term. The people bargain hunting in my supermarkets are in no way "scaffers" - they tend to be older or more middle class looking!
Well, didn't get my NSD after all.
D1 was ill and wanted me to get her cough mixture and throat sweets - that set me back £5.42 and then while I was out I went to Lidl for yoghurt and while I was in there I got some mozarella, toasting muffins, a small chicken and some nuts. Then on the way home DD2 was creating because she wanted to go to McDonalds and i wouldn't let her so after about half an hour of ear bending i let her get a small chips from the local chippie - so in all I spent £16 odd!!!!
vfm - well done on using up all your processed foods! Are you a vegetarian?
when I came in DD1 went mad because she had got chips - I give up!!!!!
Am really struggling with this pre-op diet thing - I have to eat 100g of protein a day and it is soooo hard to do. I thought that 100g protein meant 100g of meat or fish but it doesn't. 100g of chicken has about 20g of protein and a whole tin of tuna has 34. I had half a can of tuna, a hard boiled egg and some salad for lunch and I was really really full. Have just had a couple pieces of salmon for another 7g and I about still have to take in another 60odd grams before tonight!!Jane
