I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Well I finally sorted the freezer out. It is seriously like the Antarctic in there, never seen so much "snow" (not sure why it has frosted up, is it because it is too full??). Not in a position to defrost it yet though as it is too full
I had to get everything out and almost do a memory test to take my inventory.
Also had all the tin and dry cupboards out to see what we can make. Good job I did as there some tins that have gone out of date
and we have got A LOT of ketchup to get through before November
Also multiple Fajita dinner kits!
Moved a good proportion of the meat to the top of the freezer now so I can actually reach it instead of feeling like Scott of the Antarctic every morning when I try routing round the bottom of the freezer for some chicken. Do not need to purchase any meat for a long time!!!
Had a whoopsie'd loaf and whoopsie'd pancakes the past two days
Also found some Triple chocolate belgian cookies in the freezer that I'd 'scaffed' for 12p
They tasted better knowing they were 3pence each

Hi Everyone! Hope you are enjoying the bank holiday - its freezing and raining here!
Gallygirl - that salsa sounds lovely - I really like watermelon but do find that it bloats me.
Lip_stick - hope you feel better today - DD1 had her drink spiked once and she was really ill for about 24 hours.
NSD yesterday:j Did bolognaise with turkey mince - Lynsey you were right it does taste a bit sweeter - was lovely! DD2 had two friends for a sleepover and was making bacon butties at 5am - I have had a really fractured night and am - furious with her for the disruption!!
Hoping for a NSD today too - have got some rump steak out of the freezer for tea - will make strogonoff. Had tuna salad for lunch and didn't have any breakfast as was asleep!
i was tempted to go scaffing but resisted the urge! will go to Lidl tomorrow to get some more of their yummy strawberry yoghurt - the big giant 1kg tub - I have never tasted anything so lovely!! i have never really shopped at Lidl before as Aldi is nearer, but I was impressed by what I did buy - i got these toasting muffins which were 30% off and they were delicious - much nicer than the ones you get in the other supermarkets.
I am sitting her really craving something sweet but as we don't have anything in i will have to make do with a milky coffee!!Jane

Florenceem...as I don't know you personally so don't know if you have any insulin resistance symptoms or need to lose weight I'll be general here.
Step 1. Reduce the empty calorie carbs such as sugar, soft drinks, fruit juices (eat the fruit or smoothie it yourself to get the fibre too) white flour eg cakes, biscuits, packet sauces and cornflour eg custard powder. If you like it you could use whole wheat/meal/grain instead.
Step 2. Reduce the white bread, pasta, rice or choose the brown variety instead.
See how that goes for you, for some people it's enough. If it's not then what you do is whittle away at the amount of starches and sugars.
To be healthy it's important to keep as many veg and fruit in your diet as you can and leave tinkering with them till the last. If you ate no carbs from things like bread, rice, pasta you can be perfectly healthy as your body can make glucose. But it can't make every single nutrient you need from fruit and veg.
Your plate.. it's fine if you're the average healthy person. If you need to lose weight or have history of diabetes in family or have some insulin resistance symptoms then I'd say up the above the ground veg and reduce the root veg and not have packet gravy or sauces.
The pork looks scrumptious !
Hope that helps.
Thanks Edwardia - I don't have insulin problems - only diabetes in family was my Dad had the age related sort. He only had to control it by diet though no medication. My BMI is 24.1Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Surprised you thought there was a lot on the plate. When I stay with family - I have to tell them to not put too much on my plate. No problem about eating lots of spaghetti - can't stand the stuff.VfM4meplse wrote: »The pate looks fine, as it's all healthy stuff. The only thing I would say though is that there is rather a lot on the plate - not a problem in this case as your meal is well-balnaced with plenty of veg, but it would be if it were a plate of spaghetti for example.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I don't get carbs from beer - don't drink alcohol.I suggest that anyone with any questions about reducing carbs or sugar heads over to ask on the low carb support thread in Health & Relationships, which can be found in the Home & Play section. Loads of people on there can help.
My OH went to the pub for a pint or three of carbs and made me a salad for dinner with rollmops - hadn't had those in ages. Lidl ones are better than ASDA but the Lidl lids sometimes leak a bit when sideways in shopping.
We've got special offer Sainsbos diced turkey and ASDA diced lamb out of freezer for our first attempt at real proper with all the spices and stuff curry tomorrow. I can't eat rice so I will be having fake rice made from cauliflower ..can't wait zzzzzzz

Toiletries - yes if you mean toilet rolls and cleaning stuff. If I need deodorant/hairspray/shampoo - that also comes out of the GC money. I did need shampoo this month - another reason my total is up.Morning to a Bank Holiday Monday - no rain as yet, but cloudy today.
Florenceem - you include toiletries in your budget?? Fantastic spend then and I need to come and stay with you for a few weeks to get trained up. lol
Simple jam on toast today for breakfast, pork dinner later and some gammon ham to finish off.
Normal Monday's shopping for Brother is put back until tomorrow, so only Sainsbury's to visit later. I'll buy a couple of bags of milk (if still 2 for £1) and see what's reduced.

Did you buy the seconds and if so are the flaws obvious please?blackandwhitebunny wrote: »This doesn't sound great, hope you feel better today:)
We've got sun here at the moment :T I think its the first time I've ever known them to predict rain on a bank holiday and be wrong.
DH has gone off to work as they don't get bank holidays. I've no idea what we're eating for meals today.
Yesterday was a non starter for using up things. We went to Stoke for the portmeirion sale and had fish and chips for lunch so just had some cheese and crackers last night and some watermelon which we bought at the market on Sat. I was surprised how nice it was as I find they're generally more miss than hit. There's more than half still in the fridge so I guess that has to feature somewhere today.
On the very plus side - by buying in bulk on special offers I think I've got the cost of moggie food down below £100 a month whithout changing what they eat:TDecluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I found it so interesting too.AlwaysHappy wrote: »Morning all - really interesting reading about the carbs - I'm afraid I'm a bit of a carb junkie - my favourite things are bread and pasta (though in fairness don't have them all the time - though can't imagine life without them!!). Anyway, I have finally got a whole empty drawer in my freezer (my meat delivery is coming on 10th so it will be full again!!) but today I have taken out a hm quiche for lunch and some chicken breasts for tea, and am off to take a few slices of lemon cake out for a treat with coffee this afternoon - I froze it in individual slices last time I baked so it shouldn't take too long to defrost. Have a good day everyone!!!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Afternoon all, Lip Stick hope your feeling better soon. Took some chicken thighs out of the freezer & some duck. I'm making chicken kebabs for this evening & spicy duck noodles for tomorrow. I just need to find some space for 3 tubs of bbq pulled pork, and its not looking good. At least there will be no left overs from the kebabs & noodles to put in the freezer.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

abitofhelp - can I come to yours for dinner please, everything you mention sounds absolutely delicious!
loved BBQ pulled pork! yum!
A while ago curly posted a thread about things you don't buy any more because they are so expensive. One of mine was Heinz Spaghetti Bolognaise. Love the stuff but at over £1 per tin, it isn't cheap for what you get. Highly unhealthy I know but for an occasional cheap, quick dinner it used to be handy and good value. I've tried Tesco's own and frankly it was gross. Anyone know where I can get this at a decent price? Tesco currently have it on offer for 75p a tin which isn't bad, but the multipack tins seem to have disappeared. If everyone could keep a stealth eye out for a bargain I'd be forever in your debt
