katskorner - have a great weekend, lots of fun.
Lip_Stick - how much are Asda crowns?? Nowhere to put one at the minute though!!
Got through the veggie day, but would loved to have finished off the gammon ham - that's for tomorrow.
Popped into Sainsbury's to get some cheap olives for my son, but only 1 jar of green olives left, so got that plus a small tin of black olives.
24 x mushy peas = £1.92
1 x Queen olives = 23p
1 x tin black olives - 11p
Total spend = £2.26
No spread offers, so I'll get some tomorrow.
Need to pick up some euros from Sainsbury's tomorrow (massive Sainsbury's) and check for olives.
Mince out for mince and tatties tomorrow, gammon ham to finish and raisin bread for breakfast. Took out some bread, maybe a ham sandwich or the birds will be fed. A little gap now in the freezers.

I made a batch of 12 Cherry and Coconut Muffins - all in the freezer now!
Cost to make - 75p - not costed in glace cherries/coconut - haven't bought any for ages so no idea of prices. The glace cherries I used were 2009 - no idea about the coconut - it was in a sealed food storage container - fine!
Flavourings of choice for Muffins - can use tired orange/lemon - or sultana/raisin/chocolate chip etc.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

MR F managed to fit a tub of muffins in the garage freezer - took out a reduced price bag of grated cheese. So that freezer is still stuffed.
From the small freezer I took out a HM TITH for Thursday's dinner and put in a tub of muffins. Result - full!

Almond Cakes.
6 ozs self raising flour.
pinch of salt.
3 oz baking margarine/butter. ( I use baking marge. )
3 oz caster sugar plus 1 rounded tablespoon.
1 standard egg beaten. ( Old recipe size egg. )
1/2 teaspoon almond essence.
6 blanched almonds.
Sift flour/salt in bowl + rub in marge/butter. Stir in 3 oz sugar + make a hollow in centre of mixture. Add egg and essence. Mix to soft dough.
( I used a small egg so my mixture was dry - added some extra essence plus did end of mixing with hand.)
Divide dough into 12. Shape in to balls + roll in the extra caster sugar. Place on greased/non stick baking tray - I use two trays.
I slightly flatten ball. Split almonds in half - piece on each cake.
Bake for 15 - 20 minutes at 190c - do not overbrown - spoils flavour. Cool on wire tray.
Makes 12 cakes.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Ooh that baking looks lovely - will give that recipe a try!!! Yesterday I made some chilli with the mince I had defrosted - I thing out, but of course there is now enough for 2 meals, so one chilli in the fridge for tea and the other back in the freezer (oops!!!), today I have taken out some beefburgers and sausages for later - my son won't touch chilli. Every time I take something out now I have started to appreciate/admire how nice it looks now that it isn't in complete chaos!! I know which shelf everything is on (my inventory is up to date) and I am getting huge satisfaction from using up what I have in rather than on the constant hamster wheel of shopping. Have a good day everyone.I'm not a failure if I don't make it, I'm a success because I :tried!0

Feels like that at times!!
Toasted raisin bread in a moment, think last of it (sadly) and need more when reduced.
Florenceem - you like your cooking, Mr F must be spoilt. lol
Need to use some fish tomorrow, got one lot of whiting fillets left, reduced to 15p from £2 and might make some fish-cakes??
Have fun.

Morning all. Feeling tired this morning, slept in as my alarm didn't go off. Glad it's the ex's day to take ds to school!
No idea what I'm having for lunch today, will check out the cupboards. Chilli for tea.
Will be needing a few bits soon, like soups, stock cubes and lentils. Anyone know if any place has heinz on offer? They're getting dear now. I saw those long thin packets of soup where you add water to them for almost 60p! You could get a proper tin for that a year ago.
Skint at the mo as waiting for csa to go in, and it's a bit late this month. Hate having to deal with them.
Lynsey - Turkey! There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -
Morning all, i have taken chicken breasts out of the freezer. I will be making chicken, chorizo & butter bean stew for tomorrow evening. I have also made NY Chicken x2 for eldest child. I need to find the space to fit a tub of left over curry, also there will be left overs from the chicken stew. It never ends does it. My regards to all.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404
