i am in the process of making a beef curry for tomorrow evening, i found a piece of cooked beef in the freezer which is defrosting. the rest of the ingredients are ready in the slow cooker which will be switched on in the morning. out of pure laziness i have added rice to the sauce also. i now have a mixed pot of coconut milk & passata in the freezer and will also have to find space to put the left over curry. it never ends.Grocery Challenge 24th Feb-28 Dec 2012 £2000/£1404

Mr F has not ventured in to the freezer yet - let you know what he finds later.
We had HM wedges with HM cheese/onion pastie and salad - celery, cucumber, onion, rocket and tomato dressed with tarragon vinegar for dinner.Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Florenceem.. after breakfast of two free range eggs and 250g mushrooms fried in ghee I wasn't expecting blood sugars to drop so fast from the energy expended just dog walking and walking to/from stations. Normally I would have been fine with lunch later. I guess the 13 hr fast used up all my stored glycogen.
Had I known I would need lunch so fast I would have made myself a decent salad so yeah I do begrudge paying 2.50 for a salad that I don't think really fits M&S's reputation !0 -

I don't like having to fast when I need a blood test for my cholesterol.Sorry to nag - being bossy just comes naturally to me!

Mr F took HM sausage pie out of the freezer for Tuesday's dinner and some rump steak for Wednesday. He also took out some meat for the dog - not rump steak!
Mr F also got out a bag of flour that was in there to prevent the dreaded weevil!
In went a tub of HM cakes - end result - not much room in there!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

I decided to use some bits out of my cupboard to make cakes.
I made a batch of Almond Cakes while the oven was on this evening - the recipe makes 12. I worked out the cost for these 12 Almond cakes to approx - 48p without costing in the almonds. I have no idea what almonds cost - I had some in the cupboard - blanched them in hot water and sliced in half - must cost only pennies if you get a bag for Julian Gra.... or somewhere similar.
The recipe is one I used to make years ago - they freeze well. Original recipe is from - I think - Woman's Realm magazine - paper is falling apart so I must get the details on my computer!
These Almond cakes are delicious!Decluttering Achieved - 2023 - 10,364 Decluttering - 2024 - 8,365 August - 0/45

Morning.
Spent no more money yesterday, so very little spread left and hoping it lasts today as don't want to go shopping. See how it goes and might have to pop out. Need to pick up the mushy peas from Sainsbury's, but hope to wait until tomorrow - 24 cans for £1.92. lol
Veggie day 1 of the week and porridge for breakfast and brunch for lunch with fried eggs - forgot what eggs taste like!!!

Morning all. Had a nice tea yesterday of pigs in blankets, egg, beans and chips.. dipped into the egg of course. Ds has lo pigs in blankets with small slices of cheese and melba toast for his lunch, with grapes for afters. My lunch will be miso soup, with plenty of white pepper in. Feeling peckish now, so might have the soup early.
Tea is risotto which I can't say I'm looking forward to as I'm not a fan of the dish, but it needs using up. May make some bread today... in fact, I will.
Will have chilli tomorrow as ds is with his dad, then Thursday I'm planning on a steak and kidney pie, meat done in the slow cooker to start with. Never made a pie so hopefully it'll go ok! Still waiting for my Le Crueset dish to turn up from those packs of jus-rol. They took the money for it a while ago.
Flo - when you get the recipe on your comp, you'll have to post it here, those cakes look lush.
Edwardia - hope you're feeling better, and full up, after your lengthy fast!
Lynsey - how you finding your veg days? Think you'll stick with them?
Edit - just phoned about my dish and they're getting new stock at the end of May. Could have got one in Volcano now, but prefer teal, goes with my kitchen. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

I'm committed to doing 2 veggie days per week until end of June (excluding hols as lovely h/b and don't want to miss out!!).
I won't be doing 2 days per week come July and won't plan any veggie days. We sometimes have veggie days anyway, just not planned. Maybe still thinking of cutting back on the meat (though freezers may disagree), just go with the flow again.
I think I prefer basics like jacket potato with cheese, cheese salads, veggie pizzas etc., rather than Quorn and Linds Mc stuff, though Quorn mince does lovely spag bol.
Open my last box of Jordan's Porridge this morning, does seem to go far though - could do with some more coupons!!
Got 1 Cravendale coupon to use and will have to check out the coupons thread. Too interested in getting "whoopsies" at the minute as coupons are more for toiletries etc. and got enough of them .................... still take more though eventually.

Florenceem those almond cakes look scrummy, I love the taste of almonds!
Had an exam this morning so took breakfast with me, due to traffic at rush hour and ate when got to college - packet of muesli belvita biscuits and a banana. About to nibble now on a hot x bun I've thawed.
Lunch same as yesterdays pasta tinned mackerel surprise! Not sure on dinner, did meal plan but forgot was working late. Might eat at work if anything decent leftover!I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D
