  • I did end up buying in potatoes today despite vowing no more spending, as thought my brother was staying for lunch and he is a complete potato fiend (he didn't so will be eating a lot of potato this week!) but managed other than that to use up several fridge and cupboards bits - made 3 sort of trifles for next few days, using up leftover cake trimmings, tinned fruit cocktail and a packet of jelly. Also used up a cod mornay from freezer I had bought randomly, and thawed a packet of chicken breast chunks, which got marinaded in lemon oil and dried herbs, cooked it and will use over next few lunches so mostly virtuous day!
I love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D

Trying to find a work life balance...:rotfl:

Thanks for that Lynsey - OH's job means he's a mucky pup and one of them would be brilliant!

We're having stew today, found some braising steak i totally forgot about last night, so thats in the slow cooker with some vegs and bits and bobs.

Planning a big shop wednesday, was going to price compare lidl with sainsbobs, by writing a list and the price in sainsbobs, anything cheaper i will get in lidl, anything the same price or more i will get in sainsburys, nearly up to another £5 in nectar points too.

Taking a trip up north on the weekend, wonder if there is a lidl nearby so i can take advantage of the HP weekend deals??lol I'm going on my own so will give me something to do!

    Can I join in please?
I done me budget yesterday and looked in my cupboards and freezer and reckon I have at least a months worth of lunches and dinners knocking about! :o
So I am going to attempt to use only what is in there and do minimal shopping for the week.
I have budgeted £30 - £35 for shopping per week, that is for me and 2 boys, one is at school and has free school meals.

SO this week shopping I will need to get:
    Milk
    Eggs
    Bread
    Cheese
Salad bits (cucumber, onion and tomatos)
    fruit
Pizza - or I might even make our own, have loads of flour and about 5 cartons of passatta!
    Sandwich filler (ham and chicken)
    Potatoes
    Juice
    Yogurts
I tend to only use frozen veg and have loads of that.

I reckon I could get all that for about £15 if I go to the fruit and veg stall for the fruit, so much cheaper!

    Morning everyone.

Ds is back at school today!!!! :j I may now get this place back into some order and tidied up!!! Really need to sort washing out and do some ironing too. No idea what I'm having for tea tonight. Might do pasta with the walnut pesto.

Lynsey - thanks for letting us know about the dettol voucher, will pop to asda and get one today. Good luck for robbing the bank! or whatever it is that you're doing at 11am. :D

Dontknowanymore - welcome to the thread, lots of useful info here for you I hope.

Right gotta scoot quick or we'll be late!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

haha... should have realised, it's only Tesco you like robbing (and other major supermarkets)! :D

Managed to get my dettol hand wash thing for free so ty Lynsey for that. Will get another when I pick ds up. Bought some deodorant and air freshener while in Asda so spent £2.

May have salmon and broccoli lattice for tea and not pasta. Ds can then take some for school tomorrow for lunch, plus it'll leave a big space in the freezer.

Definitely not spending much on food or anything for the next few weeks as I've got to save up spending money for the hol and I've only for 2.5 weeks til I go, plus my bloody gas bill to pay.

I've just found out there's a greengrocers near me, so looking forward to trying it instead of going to Tesco :) I was going to one in town but lugging fruit & veg home on the bus was a bit tricky!

Been away for the weekend so back to eating out of the stores today! Got some lovely homegrown potatoes from a friend so will have one with some smoked salmon from the freezer tomorrow (reminds me need to get it out to defrost!) Whoopsied ready meal tonight possibly or spaghetti hoops on toast. All I need to get today is bread, so will pop into the bakers before I get my train :).....the smell of freshly baked bread might be too much, it'll be gone by the time I get off :rotfl:

My son done this with the small seeded batton I bought today! He munched the end bits off, my fave bits! :( :rotfl:
I drive so thankfully no lugging, my boys go through about 4 bags of apples a week, and a bag of satsumas and a punnet of grapes.
My friend works on the stall and she probably knocks a quid off or something.

Boys are having sausage and smash with sweetcorn tonight, I am ashamed to say I buy the value packet mash potato and have a few packs in the cupboard. My boys like it anyway lol

I'm having pork in crazy gravy with rice and salad tonight, have been fancyin it all week! I did have to buy some tinned tomatoes for that though but am going to use it all and make a big batch of the gravy for freezing.

Bought some?? Are you mad or just made of money?? :rotfl:
Well done on getting your handwashes so quick - hope you got the silver ones, much nicer smelling soap.

If you had your fingers crossed this morning for us.....it worked. :T

Even if you didn't have your fingers crossed.........it still worked out for the good (part 1). ;)

We are having a brunch for lunch and snacking rest of day.
Tomorrow is homemade fishcakes (just took fish out) and Wednesday is going to be chicken kievs out of freezer - that's as far as I'll go with meal planning.
Hoping not to shop today and tomorrow if possible and then pick up a few things on Wednesday and use up some more coupons. Hoping Asda sill have the handwashes left!! They will be popular being free. lol
