I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Lunch will be the chicken in a parcel that I bought reduced from M&S about a month ago from my freezer with some salad.I had one last week and its really nice its a chicken breast with herbs and spices ect on it in a square parcel of puff pastry .I think I got the two of them reduced for £1.50 so at 75p per meal I thought it was quite good value.
Re the mince I have always before I cooked mince even the 'posh stuff' put it in a saucepan of water and brought to the boil and then drained off the resulting 'fat' that comes out of it. I can remember my Mum doing this back in the 1940s but she would drain the liqiud into a jug and when solidifed skim of the fat to use for cooking with Mind you during rationing you would do anything to get hold of even the most basic of supplies,She had a large basin which she kept her fat in and absolutely everything was used that could be used as you couldn't just go out and buy it from the shops.I will also make a big vat of veggie soup today as I have some carrots,a swede, two parsnips and some celery to use up from the bottom of the fridge I think there is some chopped leeks in the freezer as well so they will get bunged in to flavour it up a bit and my favourite a good dollop of lazy garlic. The resulting couple of litres of soup will do me for lunch for most of this week along with maybe some crackers and cheese.I am determine to use up as much as I can0 -
Bought a big joint of beef, reduced to £5 from £13. Couldn't pass that up. I've portioned it up so that'll do for about 6 meals for me and lo. Also bought a few other whoopsies too, to go in the freezer.
I think I'll have to rename my challenge... 'I'm eating the oldest items in the freezer first' challengeThere's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.0 -

this made me smile, I know what you mean when its too good to pass up a bargain. At least you are making progress of sorts!!!
we are having lamb chops from the freezer tonight with veg from the garden. I have now managed to not shop for a week longer than normal (apart from milk and fruit) as I normally go every 3 weeks. Can I manage another week?? Probably!!! This must have saved me about £50!!! :Tmortgage £800 overpayment 2022. £600/£2400 2023 🙂 savings £1853/£1800 😊0 -

That's exactly it for me, terrified to not take the bargain.
I know and probably most know that these "bargains" come up week after week, but we still have to take the current ones. lol
I see it as an "investment", the less I spend on food, the more I've got to spend on other "bargains", which are also on offer on a daily/weekly basis.
I tend to fill my freezers with "better quality" bargains now, mainly fresh meat. Gone are the days filling it with bread, these can be bought very easily.
Spag bol was lovely, had it wth wedgers instead of pasta. Sainsburys sweet and sour tomorrow. Toasted hot cross buns for breakfast.
