I always buy extra lean mince less than 6% fat I think it is? I dread to think what state I'd be in if I bought normal! Even tho I always drain it off as I brown it.
Had a stir fry for tea with fish cakes?!? It was lovely lol.

I always brown the mince in a non stick saucepan and drain all the fat off anyway before I add sauce or stock etc. :)

You have to remember that you have paid for that fat tho ,so sometimes its false economy to buy the cheaper mince

Last night I used up a wing from a small turkey I bought just after Christmas. I made it with mash, veg and a mushroom sauce I bought from M&S (not very money saving I know, but I love mushrooms and had to try it). Dished it up and my son was shattered, ate two mouthfuls of mash then decided he was too tired to eat. He went to bed at 5:45 and I thought he'd get up later in the evening but he didn't. It was 6:45am before he surfaced.

I have lapsed a bit and bought the odd thing from Home Bargains, like Pesto. I have loads of swatz(?) packets in the cupboard to make things up, so need to use them!
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

The Lidl normal mince is not 26% fat. Just looked at the packet as I have one in my fridge and it says typically less than 20% fat.

I find the lean mince and the normal one from Lidl to be great !!

That's interesting, I checked the packet in store for someone on this forum a while back and it stated 26% (I'm pretty sure) on the pack.

Maybe they use different suppliers or even different in different parts of the country?? I'll check again tomorrow in my local.

Anyway, only 18p spent yesterday on food (2 carrots, lol) and casserole today. Using up swede and some potatoes.

    Hi Lynsey,

I am in the South Wales area so maybe as you say it's a regional thing but it definitely says less than 20% on my packet and its just the normal beef mince not lean steak mince. I think from memory the lean one is less than 10 or 12% fat :)
