Chicken pasta bake today for dinner - getting rid of some of those half-price Lidl offers.

    Toasted muffins for breakfast.

we are having sausage pasta bake for tea, as I have some (more!) sausage to use up, and lots of pasta, and some cheese which is kind of past its best but will be fine to cook with :)

Bella, steak mince is only £1.34 in Lidl's Half Price Weekend offer for 500g, well worth stocking up at this price - unless you find it cheaper.

Thanks Lynsey, until recently I would have quite happily used packet mince but since using butchers mince I dont think I would ever use it again its horrible and greasy (from my experience) butchers mince is soooooo much nicer :)

This morning I had cup a soup and some bread which was going a little dry but I refuse to waste it ;)

Dinner was a chicken burger and frozen chips yum yum

Tea is chilli and rice for OH, and maybe curry and rice for me and DS using some chicken tikka bites from freezer :)

Popped into the store where I work to update my colleague on my ww weigh in. Saw these TTD Ultimate Steak Burgers reduced to 60p and I had a 50p off coupon - you can use the coupons on reduced things. With the staff discount, as it takes the money off before coupons - 4p!

If your coupon takes off more money than the cost of the object in the reduced, Sainsburys will not give you change. Example, 70p off mince and its down to 60p - no 10p change.
  • What is the Lidle steak mince like? I have never bought it but think I might give it a go this weekend. The thing is if it is at all greasy I know that no-one will eat it and I find that boiling it and then skimming the fat once it goes cold takes away most of the flavour.

Anyway if anyone has tried it let me know!

I am still ploughing through my freezer although I did go shopping this week and spent £60, but alot of that was stuff for our two new puppies (toys, puppy pads, food, worming tablets etc). I also bought a HUGE bag of Sainsburys basics chicken pieces (frozen) - I defrosted some tonight and they don't look that pretty but I figure that they will be okay once cooked if I take the meat off the bones and use it for sandwiches or curry etc.

I had friends round last night and for the first time (ever I think!) I didn't go out and buy food to give them. I just did some sandwiches, crisps, made a quiche, made a salad and I also made a lovely coffee and walnut cake out of stuff in the cupboards.

I will need to go shopping on Monday but that is pay day so I had better be careful I don't go into "filling the cupboards" mode!

Jane, the steak mince is fine, the "normal mince" has a high fat content though (about 26%). I only buy the steak mince now and it's only slightly dearer than the half-price normal mince. Better value in my opinion. Give one pack a go and if any good you can stock up next time, the offers are always revolving.

I understand what you mean bella, I never buy frozen mince.

The Lidl normal mince is not 26% fat. Just looked at the packet as I have one in my fridge and it says typically less than 20% fat.

I find the lean mince and the normal one from Lidl to be great !!

I always brown the mince in a non stick saucepan and drain all the fat off anyway before I add sauce or stock etc. :)
