Took out a Sainsburys small beef roasting joint for today and I found a tub of Sainsburys beef gravy, so that will be used also (not too sure why I bought that!!).
Either a beef dinner later (need veg) or hot beef "stotties" with gravy (probable choice).
No spend day again yesterday, so budget well on track for July (Hoping for a £40 spend by 15th to give £60 for the second half).

This is a great thread. You're all keeping each other motivated (ish) which is magic. I will lurk with much interest.
It spurred me on to get myself out to the shed where I have two small chest freezers (and a 4 drawer freezer in the house). What a treasure trove there was out there.
Things I didn't know I had:
Smoked cod loin (4)
salmon fillets (4)
whole rainbow trout (2)
chicken fillets (around 30!!)
McCain potato rosti (8)
Corn on the cob (8)
frozen veg (millions)
mince - beef, pork, lamb (6 packs)
pork stirfry
pork chops (4)
Beef Joint (2)
chicken kiev (4)
Quiche
HM Soup
Stock
EVERYTHING was reduced (even the HM stock boom, boom)
My Goodness, am shocked. That was all underneath the stuff I KNEW I had. So, there's quiche for lunch, chicken curry for dinner and I plan to use the rest on the coming days (Sunday is my flashpoint for shopping)
I also have an under-stair-glory-hole and it's full of breakfast cereals (amongst other things) when they were on sale. I've run out of porridge (my brekkie of choice) and I WAS going to go to get more this morning but there's an unopened pack of Kellogs cornflakes so that's what I'll have!!
Is it bad that I feel a bit panicky about using the stuff? How weird is this condition?Grocery Challenge M: £450/£425.08 A: £400/£.May -£400/£361 June £380/£230 (pages 18 & 27 explain)0 -
I am in cooking mode today so after I have done the sausage rolls for the family 'do' tomorrow I will be making a vat of veggie soup to use up some past their best veg from the fridge and I'll probably make some twink as well as some oaty bars to go into the cake tin.DGS Danny has just rung to say he's on his way over so I'd better get a wriggle on I know he will want a bacon sarnie or three have a good day everyone

****sighs how sad that I'm fascinated by the fat content of beef mince!!!! ****** Lol
Even sadder, I've been and found out. lol
Got a few pack of steak mince today and checked the beef mince.
As you stated, on the front of the pack it states on the "serving suggestion" that there is typically less than 20% fat. On the raw analysis at the bottom of the label it states 26% fat.
Steak mince states typically less than 10% on the "serving suggestion", but the raw analysis states 14%.
So not regional then, but maybe cooked and raw stats.
Lol

Ah that's interesting. As mentioned before I always drain the fat off any mince I cook.
Thanks for clarifying that Lynsey - nice one:D

I've still got some beef left off yesterday, so it's beef "stotties" with gravy again for lunch and spag bol for tonight. Cooked the spag bol last night with the Lidl steak mince (got 2 500g packs and froze 3 x 250g and used one for spag bol). Used some of the frozen mushrooms I already had. I never had any onions, so used up some of the reduced priced shallots.

Looks like today will be fish, new potoates from the garden and 10p whoopsie green beans and a bit of salad for lunch, DS's won't be impressed with fish so might do a corned beef pie as well, last night we had left over takeaway, DS2 had pancake and DS1 didn't want anything, though hes started doing cooking at school and has said he wants to make the dinner today so this should be encouraged. Plan for the rest of the week is bacon and cheese pasta tomorrow - mushrooms in fridge, packet mix in cupboard and bacon bits from the freezer and them possibly spag bol Tuesday - mince and hm sauce in freezer then Wed my Mam picks DS's up from school so she will probably do tea for us then just Thursday then OH's payday is Fri and the start of a new budget month which although this month was ok next might be a bit trickier as its a 5 weeker and includes DS1's birthday.0
