Need to read this every day to try to keep disciplined red shopping. Have only been out to shops about 3 times this year but still find the odd whoopsie to put in overflowing freezer (push and shove) and love to buy fresh veg when its reduced, make soup but no room to put. Have spliced up some cel and onion ready to do today but have to finish off a portion of chilli beef (4 portions in freezer) which I added some veg to and ate half yesterday so when will I eat soup which will be about 4 portions buy the time its done. If I do in slow cooker it could last about 4 days, add different herbs/spices/tinned beans etc as it goes on. Bought some pink fir potatoes the other day to try - did I need potatoes NOOOOOOO.
    Hopeless case.:eek::eek:

Still using up stuff, finished off the last of the fizzy water today, had so many bottles of it.. tap water (filtered) from now with squash - I have 4 bottle of squash in the fridge, stupid, only need 1!

Wasted dinner last night, put it on to cook then came down suddenly ill, so that went in the bin this morning. Nothing for breakfast as recovering... may have plain toast for lunch and dinner the way I feel, cheap food day though I won't use up much stock!

Spent a little in Morrisons yesterday on some offers but had LV's/coupon to use so final bill £2.66. Spent £2.89 at the farm shop. Total spend for January so far is £33.79 for almost 3 weeks, of which £20.10 is fruit and veg and a lot of that for the pets - so not bad at all.

Am more determined than ever to reduce stocks kept now and I have still bought too much this month!

I grow pink fir, my fave ever potato! Especially just scrubbed, cut in half and tossed in olive oil/salt/pepper and put in oven for 30 mins - eaten with garlic mayo, lovely :D

I need coffee and tea. Managed a NSD yesterday though. I have a £10 tesco voucher to use, so will technically still have a NSD as money will hopefully not leave my hands! Just deciding if i should use it or keep it for emergencies.

Yoghurt for breakfast - only have 4 left. and toast for lunch. Dinner will be chicken, and potato bake maybe instead of jacket potato.

  • Also cannot get motivated today! So doing a nice easy dinner tonight. Got 2 chicken and white wine pies Mr T whoopsied down to 9p that are in the freezer, so me and OH are having those tonight with mash potato and cabbage I got for 2p in Mr T and gravy! Yummy!

Also added two portions of turkey stew to the freezer stocks last night from the dinner's leftovers! Am saving a bomb eating out of the freezer and cupboards :)

Only passing on the tips I've been given myself from other MSE members and which served me well last year. Hope you save many £1's and hit them hard with the PDF's. ;)
I would like to thank you for your paper saving tip, much appreciated and again, something from one MSE member to another.
Now you have the "ammunition" and know where to find more, fight the BIG 4 etc., though again, it's the manufactures who take the hit really. Anyway, as long as we are saving, it feel good. :money:

Good luck to your saving in 2012.

    NSD so far.
Pasta on now and making some potato skins and use up some garlic mayo from Xmas.

I fully intended to have a use up of everything i my cupbaords and freezer and would've managed it if I still lived alone - even if I ended up eating unusual combos. But cannot put up with the whinging of my darling boyfriend when the things he likes are not in stock. So I went shopping today.:(

Went to sainsburys today got lots reduced. Lamb mince, lamb shanks, pork belly, chicken grills, and ribs :) all in the freezer. Will be interesting to see how over budget I am after q1.

WW meal from freezer for dinner. And WW dessert too :)

    NSD :j

Took a peep, but missed the good stuff and only salad bits and bobs, so walked away. There's always another day.......hopefully.

Well done bramble1, some great bargains there with quality items.....never mind about the budget with items like that, you'll not have to spend on future days.

Took out a pizza for snacks tonight and a couple of pies for lunch tomorrow to have with hm wedgers and peas.

I've nearly got a half-empty freezer drawer, and once I've taken some bread out the next few days and a joint for Saturday, the spaces should appear.
Funny but when I first started this, I was hoping to empty a full freezer, now my aim is an empty drawer like vintage43.

Finish off the teacakes for breakfast tomorrow.
