I cannot get anything more into my freezer and yet I'm trying not to buy things to fill it.

I did go to Waitrose at the weekend and bought some frozen chestnuts and mushrooms of all varieties which looked really nice. I also made some nut rissoles which I had to fit in there.

After 10 years of living on my own, I still find it hard to cook for one person - eg. I make my own cheese pie, but it makes 8 portions - so one for me and freeze the rest.

  • I'm doing quite well at the moment, surprisingly.

With an allowance of £160 per month for 3 of us (one 4 year old) I've never been consistent in keeping track of spending or keeping to the budget before, but I'm surprising myself!

Obviously got paid early in December, did nearly all my Christmas shopping, and bought 6 boxes of fish that was on offer, and we've still got £21.10 to last until 29th.

If I go a bit over budget I won't mind as it'll be about 6 weeks actually, but to include Christmas as well, so far I'm chuffed to bits.

This thread is really helping tho, to keep me on track and although not emptying the freezer and cupboards exactly, am trying to make sure that I am using up the stuff at the back that has been long forgotten. Just got into checking the coupons, so hopefully that will help keep me under budget in the coming months too.

    Exciting:)

    I've been Money Tipped!
Great bargains cheerfulness4, great to see - no need to pay full price. :T

bramble1, I miss out salads virtually completely during the winter months, did get a little in for when my son was home at Xmas.

canspendnomore, that's what it's all about. I know this thread was started about eating out of freezers and cupboards, but to continue with it on a budget really helps to save and cut back on waste. It makes you think more. The amount of food you think you need and the amount of food you actually need, differs enormously.

What will I spend my savings on though!! :D

NSD so far, but may, just may try Sainsbury's later.

I don't blame you, it's far too cold, need nice warming food at the moment!!

I am well under budget this month, I am almost going off buying any unnecessary food altogether as I'm also having a big clear out at home of everything and I prefer the space, feels more relaxing.. so I would rather keep using up stocks and getting the kitchen more clutter free!

    So far today:

    Breakfast - hot choc

Early lunch - cold hm pizza from yesterday

Dinner - not sure yet, depends how lazy I am... may just get something out the freezer that I can just heat up!

How true! It's certainly made me think much more about how much I was buying last year and how little I actually need to buy, I look forward to see my total spend for 2012! I really don't want to waste food either - had to throw out a mini pumpkin this morning as it had gone mouldy, if I hadn't had so much food in the freezer from the shops then that would have been eaten already... I don't want to be doing that this year, if I can grow it I should eat it before buying extra from shops..

We have done well this weekend, all meals came from the freezer, I did however fill it up with whoopsied bread from MR T which was only 4p a loaf for their finest, we have a delivery coming tomorrow of just basic, milk, loo roll etc which cost £93.00 so with the stuff from the freezer this should last 4 of us a month if I have meal planned correctly.
Lamb curry out of the freezer for tonights tea, the kids are going to say, 'lamb curry again' but what the hey, it won't kill em:rotfl: Nearly emptied one drawer now:T

The rabbit will get my salad from today, so atleast it won't go to waste!

Even though we're still living off our freezer items, we didn't have much in the way of stores last month, so it's hard to make much in the way of saving this month. We're running out of things like tea/coffee/chutney etc things we normally on buy every quarter or so on. This is bumping up the budget. But hopefully, If i stock up on these things now, I will need less later on in the year.

I think come february there is a real chance our freezer will be empty! Going to do some waitrose bargain hunts this week, It's walking distance from me, and sometimes the savings are amazing (got 2 bunches of flowers yesterday for 35p instead of £8!! They look lovely in my living room. There is a lady to takes ALL the whoopsied items on a thursday (best day for meat offers) and it gets my goat, she leaves nothing for everyone else!!

Would like to get some chicken and beef this week if I can. I've got plenty for meals for the next two weeks. But that will wipe out all our stores!
