Went to a farmer's market today, bought cheese £3, carrots £1 and butter £2. Not very money saving but I love smaller producers.

Breakfast - hm bread toasted and marmite

    Lunch - nothing, was out!

Dinner - hm quiche from freezer, allotment peas and hm bread toasted.
  • Had 2 cheesey muffins for lunch, just about to have my chilli from the slow cooker with some steamed rice.

Have taken out the steak to go in slow cooker overnight, should be good dunno what to take out to have with creamy soup pasta for tomorrows dinner.

I'm planning on doing a double "whoopsie" run tomorrow night, Sainsbury's and Morries. I would love a dozen cheap pies from Morries (59p for 4 would be nice). Could do with some cheap bread also to freeze.

This is getting too easy. :D
Went to Sainsbury's at 7.30pm and missed the bargains, only got 2 packs of bread buns for 10p per packet. There were other stuff, but not tonight Josephine and walked away.
Part 2 of Whoopsie run and success at Morries:
    2 x Organic loaves @ 5p each = 10p
    1 x sliced farmhouse loaf = 9p
    4 x mince beef pies = 39p
    4 x mixed pies = 49p
    4 x mixed pies = 19p (don't know why??)
    1 x turkey pie wedge = 19p

Froze as much as possible and wished I had never bought the Sainsbury's bread buns - not a problem for 20p and the birds will be well fed the next few days.

Also bought 2 x nom yoghurts (on offer at 30p each) = 60p

    20p Sainsbury's and £2.05 at Morries + £2.94 spent earlier in Lidl = £5.19, so well under days £10 target - well pleased. So 1st 2 weeks spend = £20.48, well below planned £40.

Slow cooker update: Meat was very, very tender, but some of the veg was just cooked, while other veg was well cooked. Maybe try the microwave tip next time. I think I prefer the high setting, maybe use that more next time and then drop down to low. 1 portion left for tomorrow.

Time to chill now and relax. :D

  • Lynsey, here are 2 more for you, you can make cakes in the SC too, ive only tried one, but when i made it, my cousin accused me of buying a packet jobbie lol. hot fudge cake with vanilla ice cream was lovely.

Also there is a thread in old style it's one of my fave threads besides this one.

Havent managed to put my sc on, its in the fridge with the mince still in, when i grt up tomorrow, i will portion out the mince and wash and put the steak and onions on high for 3 hours, i want the steak really tender for these steak bakes, lord knows where, i am actually planning to freeze these, not much space for anything in freezer.

Have decided it will be sausages and pasta in sauce tomorrow, still have 4 packs of sausages to be used, or because i have already had beef this weekend, maybe take out cooked chicken and strip and use that, also defrsoting 2 frankfurters and chuck those in too for added flavor, dunno we will see have also changed my mind about the dessert, will stew some pears and apples, with vanilla sugar, clementine juice and a little nut meg and have that with custardusing up some stuff from cupboard, sugar, custard etc, that i rarely use, using the rest at work with plain or greek yogurt for a snack.

Thanks ms_night_ryder, I'm going to have a look at non-casserole meals during the week, cakes sound interesting.

Just had my toast for breakfast - organic of course. ;)
I'm out most of day, so leftover casserole for tea.
Hubby's made a chicken curry, so he's sorted for a meal or two.

Birds are also having breakfast, mix of Farmhouse and Organic bread and a bit of pie crust (had a pie last night) - hope they appreciate my efforts!!

Got too much spread to use up!! On last Utterly Butterly (60p with coupons), got two Bertolli in garage fridge (2 for £2 at Xmas), two Clover Light (free with coupons) and I've still got two coupons to use for another two Clover Lights, but will delay as long as possible (coupon date end 03/02). Hope the Clover Light are OK, these are the new block types.

NSD today, unless I'm passing Sainsbury's around 3pm.

    Morning all...

Just been catching up with what everyone's been doing.

I cleared out a fair bit from my freezer yesterday - last of turkey crown from Christmas became a turkey curry last night (plus 2 packs of microwave pilau rice from the cupboard and finished a jar of mango chutney from the fridge!)

Also took out 2 chicken leg/thigh pieces (whenever we have a roast chicken I always take those off first and pop them in freezer for DS1 and 2 for another meal and then have the breast meat first - IYSWIM!!)

So we'll have a roast dinner with those 2 plus a wedge of steak pie for me - also out of the freezer.

I also took out a portion of fish pie to thaw for DS2 dinner for tomorrow night and a portion of turkey and leek pie - yep that same turkey crown!! - for me for tomorrow night. DS1 will be having his food with his dad and as it's Monday DS2 and I have a rush to get to football training so need to be prepared.

I also took out the last of the lemon chunks (that I normally save for G&T!!) as I wanted to start the day right with hot water and lemon and had run out of lemon juice - must get some next time I shop

Later this week I'll be taking out a chilli and rice portion for me to take for lunch - should be a good couple of weeks for me if I can keep this up and then I can possibly defrost the damn thing so the drawers fit in properly.

Have a good Sunday everyone :)

Pork and prawn stir fry tonight as we didn't eat dinner last night.

So lamb will be cooked tomorrow.

Breakfast was sausages, bacon and egg. Totally out of sausages now! Will have to go to sainsburys tomorrow or tesco to get anchovies and rosemary for my roast. So will try get some bargains.

Also lifted out a milk so the freezer is looking pretty empty!

Shame about the tart, Kirri. I found some mince pies growing nicely in a tin the other day! Not even the birds would have thanked me for them.
Lynsey - Hope the slow cooker meal turns out well. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

Has anyone else tried cooking brisket in the slow cooker? I just leave it on low overnight (usually a Saturday) and it's ready for Sunday dinner.

aaaah lovely brisket!! cant beaqt it!! melt in the mouth!! making me hungry.!

easy peasy recipe.. chuck into slow cooker with a large peeled and rough sliced onion.. few carrots . cover with a bottle of cheap red wine(i never use any more than £3 a bottle ) salt and black pepper (you can thicken with cornflour at the end if you like a thick gravy.

You will surely be in heaven.
    :):):)
  • forget to add; will be posting my lovely beef curry soup recipe this week. i will need to do it when i make it so i dont forget anything!!
