Just had a sloppy joe for lunch, some of the mince i had defrosted, a homebake bagette from cupboard, cheese and perinaise, so good!
pulled pork for din dins, going to make rice from stores mixed with farmhouse frozen veg from freezer and decided to use up a lonesome dimsum, have chucked both in steamer, thought i may as well since the rice and veg are in there, dimsum from freezer, remains of that will be lunch tomorrow as i have plenty of pulled pork at least 3 portions, just wish i had some coleslaw to go with it, but i don't have the bits in to make it, shame, will have a bit of lettuce instead.Lose 28lb 3/28lb

Been out most of day, so just snacking on pizzas etc. out of freezer.
No spend day, but did take a peek and declined the bargains as nothing special.
Did spend another £2.96 yesterday trying to use coupons with multi-buys, but the supermarkets are getting wise now and only the free Hovis slipped through, knocking £1.30 of my shopping.
Lots of coupons to use, but waiting until December as no budget then!
Hoping for a no spend day tomorrow if possible - nothing needed, but getting short on potatoes.

I succumbed today - bought some (4 boxes
) M&S mince pies on 1/2 price offer at 99p, and some more Thorntons chocolates from Poundland. £7 is a lot to spend on non-essential unhealthy treats, but everything in context - Man vs Food is on TV atm and that really is a waste of food and money.

Ms-night-rider - can I ask what a sloppy Joe is? I have heard them mentioned on US TV programmes but don't know what they are, except that they involve mince - of which I have loads at the moment in the freezer!!
Used a Tesco Just cook Chilli tonight and it was horrible!! IT was not at all tomatoey and really garlicky (I don't really like garlic) - I am ashamed to say that half of it went into the food waste - however as it only cost me 25p in Tescos I don't feel too bad about it.Jane

Well I am slowly eating out the freezer, was it 4 or 5 days back I said I would stick to it and stick to it we have - chicken, sausages/fish in batter, pizza/cod in butter sauce. lamb joint so far eaten ( alts are what hubby and I had) , although with me moving things around freezer looks as full as ever. I picked up 4 bags of russet apples that were whoopised - 40p for 12 in a bag, the other day and have yet to peel and cut them up to make into stewed apples to freeze, not enough room for me to do say apple pies and freeze them yet. Not that it has stopped me spending, but it is on tins for store cupboard so that is a bit fuller and more meals if power cut and freezer goes down ( at least its insured this year, for first time in years our house insurance was doable including freezer loss and accidental damage, we always were in a very high postcode for some reason, but suddenly our bank was able to offer us it for £220 cheapest by far, usually can only do just contents with nothing extra). Hubby has actually asked for lamb again Monday, Sundays joint was just a tiny one only enough for one meal, none left even for dogs. So I had picked up on special one of those boxes with two lamb joints in gravy so now if fridge defrosting, bought them for £2.50. We could just have one between us but they are not very big, more bone than meat, but as we are not quite on our beam ends yet we will have one each with veg from freezer and might do the roast potatoes that are in there as well. Only thing is will not be able to hide brocilli in the meal for hubby - he will not eat it or cauliflower if he can see it, stews are great can mash them in and he happily eats it all. Hopefully soon have enough room to buy some nice bits for Christmas Day ( just two of us this year usually go to daughters but I just want a quiet day) and Boxing Day - I have a friend her daughter, her hubby and grandchildren every year then since friend was widowed about 25 years ago, used to be Christmas Day till daughter got married and they started to go to her in-laws, friend included so changed to Boxing Day, even the grandchildren say would not be Christmas time if they didn't come to mine which is nice as they are 13,14 now. So like to have lots of fancies in as a treat especially for friend as she lives just on her pension and so money is very tight and no money for fancies. Got my mixed fruit in on Saturday so will make Christmas cake and freeze it then it will live in a tin till all eaten, I cannot stand it but hubby loves it as does friend.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Morning.
Not very hungry this morning, but will try a small bowl of...............................porridge. lol
Nothing planned for today as yet, but checking freezers yesterday I need to use some fish. Lots of haddock fillets in there and possibly fishcakes later in the week (Thursday?). Wednesday is steak and ale day, so today and tomorrow to sort - pasta will be one meal and maybe pie, chips and peas for another.
Need to hammer the freezers the next two weeks to create space for Xmas.

Right. Back on the challenge. OH and I have decided to eat everything out the fridge then start on weight watchers
So will lift out the loaf of bread in there for lunches and need to decide on something for dinner, it will probably be pizza and mini potato waffles.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Humungous spends this weekend foodwise but mostly all for later in the year when DH is off work. This is NOT helping to clear freezer space but too good a deal to let ride. I can't afford to let them go.
£18.89 beef joint (huge!) reduced to £3.49 and a £7.62 Pork joint reduced to 99p. (got that for mum and dad)
Lots of other little beauties that I can't remember but all ridiculous prices.
Did manage to free some place in the freezer on Friday when everyone and their Aunt came to visit while the gas fitters were in fitting the new fireplace.
No gas so all easy readymeals from freezer to micro for 6 people. Took ages!
All these meals were reduced dinners from Asda (25p-50p each) and were awful! Curry ones not so bad but the beef stew and dumplings were revolting.Oh well, all gone now.
Today will be egg, chips, beans and sausages from my stash in the freezer. I'll just have to make a loaf of bread to go with that and the rabble will be happy.
ohh and had great fun using coupons again this weekend. Got a newborn box of goodies free from Asda courtesy of a coupon and had £15 of vouchers for Asda from a survey company so restocked some cleaning cupboard and baking cupboard stock.
L/O beef could make lunch today for myself, mum and a friend but I'm feeling a bit of a tightwad and may do them something on toast and freezer the beef if there's enough for popping in a batter pudding next week with onion gravy.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

Right, having hung around this thread for ages I am now properly in.
My goal is to eat through my non perishables, I am allowing myself a little leeway so have set a budget of £3 a week for buying non perishables from now until the end of Jan. I bake loads so know I will have to get more flour, of various types and sugar.
I predict loads of lentil and bean stews as the cupboards are stuffed with them. Should be interesting to see how I do. I am getting low on pasta so already using less and adding a handful of frozen beans to the cooking water to bulk it out.Eating Out of the Storecupboards Challenge.
Spend no more than £3 per week on non perishables until the end of Jan 2012.
Week 3, 12 Dec £0 / £3
Week 1 - 2, £2.65 / £6,0
