Snap I had that too. todays dinner is one of the many portions of Chilli Concarne , stashed away lord knows when, for tommorow have taken out a whoopsied pack of stewing meat and various odds of veg.

Been at this for three days now but cant really see a great deal of space in the freezer yet.

Would love to know how everyone else is doing

Can I just ask, what is 'whoopsied' meat, seen a couple of people mention it, never heard that phrase....?:)

    Hi all,

Back from Scotland and focused on the challenge once more!

Not got much in but going to try and make it through the week without shopping!

Cereal bar and mug shot ( 3 for £1 in poundland) for lunch, dinner I think will be lasagne chips and salad. Something mince related anyway!

Can anyone think of anything I can use some burgers for instead of just burger and chips? Bit bored of that, but burgers are so cheap ATM I keep buying them!

Cook the burgers, then slice them on the side, so they look like sausages sliced, put them in a pitta bread with either mozzarella cheese or any cheese really, delicious. I'd have this in the summer with a salad, but I guess you could do chips and have massive carb attack :rotfl:

    Hi,

AFAIK it originates from when Asda used yellow stickers (they possibly still do) which said "whoops!!" on them when a box had been broken, say.

So the item is discounted due to being damaged.

Now the "whoopsied" term is used for reduced items which are near their use by/sell by date or for damaged stock.

Since my last post I have used up the last of the chicken meals from the freezer and put out nearly all of the bags of bird food, so a little freezer space is appearing. Next month, I also hope to cut food expenditure more severely than this month. At the end of the year, it will be interesting to roughly calculate how much money had been spent on unused grocery items purchased in 2011.

Ohh that reminds me. Its the cheap posh crisps at Lidl's this weekend, isn't it? Mustn't forget that
Couldn't resist, I bought 6 packs of sat and balsamic vinegar :o - to compensate for the fact they had all gone last time. Also bought 2 bags of clementines @ 79p/kg.

Anyway, hope you managed to get the Jordans Porridge, see what you think of it. Much chunkier than the normal stuff
You cannot beat the M&S luxury muesli (gold and brown packaging) jumbo fruit, jumbo hazelnuts, jumbo everything! I bought a load when it was on a 1/2 price offer earlier this year, <£1.30/bag. Well worth trying, esp soaked / with hot milk.

No spend day so far and probably (well maybe) not going out. Early Lidl tomorrow though!
I shudder when I think of all those wasted years spent not shopping at Lidl. Today I visted my parents and had a proper dinner for once - chappati, dahl, with mushrooms and saag from my freezer (made with Lidl fresh baby spinach when reduced to 49p a couple of weeks ago). Finished off with fresh mince pies, coffee and Thorntons chocolates (small bags available from Poundland :T). Didn't eat anything else today so now feeling stuffed but in a MSE way.

    Your meal sounds lovely VFM4meplease!

My plan to give DD1 chicken fillets out of the freezer went wrong as when the fillets defrosted they smelt dreadful! I got them in my mega haul from Tescos last week or so and froze them as soon as I got home. Can't moan as they had been 90% off but still....

Ended up doing her tuna baked potato and salad, which she ate but moaned as she said there were eyes in the potato (there was one). I was going to have chilli but the smell of the chicken turned my stomach and I ended up having a philly sandwich instead.

Went to Tesco before to get some of the Jordans oats but they had none in stock, but I did get an innocent Moussaka veg pot for 27p with my pot for a £ voucher.

Made a fruit loaf this afternoon and I don't know if it was the fruit I used, but it didn't taste nice at all - there seemed to be loads of peel in it which I don't really like. I bought the Tesco Value mixed fruit and I have LOADS of it because it was 3 4 2 so don't know what to do with it all. Maybe if I make a rich fruit cake with treacle and all the spices in it I might find it okay. I hope so as I have 10 bags or more in the cupboard!!

You could give it a head start by soaking the fruit in your favourite spirit beforehand. Rum / whisky / port is delicious, and so is Cointreau :D.

  • We had stir fry last night with some l/o cubed pork out of the freezer. Gonna make a chicken slice for lunch today but not sure if DS2's friend is staying for food or not so won't know if any can go into freezer for a meal for me some time.

Rescued some plums that were on the turn and will make a crumble this afternoon :D

Still need to get on with my meal plan for the month (mine runs 17th-17th for pay days) but will get onto that next. When I start my new job in the New Year I get paid every 4 weeks so that will be a bit of a challenge to get my head around for the first couple of times...been a loooooong time since I was paid 4 weekly instead of monthly :)
