Mornin all!
After surveying my cupboards this morning I need to remove ANY temptation to go shopping....we have so much stuff it is silly!!
Eating out of what we have will be the easiest way to save some money over the coming weeks and also get some cupboards/freezer space back and make sure we dont have to throw things out!!
Lunch today made and dinner either chilli (tho has been defrosted for 2 days not sure if it will be ok to eat on day 3?....) or scrambled eggs (use by tomorrow) then got a pizza and some pasta bakes which will do us over weekend (all from cupboards) lunch will be soups or beans n cheese on toast until some of these tins are used up!have 3 boxes of honey shreddies to continue using up and 3 other boxes of cereal! Anyone would think I am preparing for a war or to be snowed in all winter!! :rotfl:In the freezer still have 4 or so portions of chilli and casseroles, some burgers, quorn (only I like this) 2 pies, fishcakes, chips and some random bits like cheese and cooked apples ...oh and ice cream!
quick question- what do people do to avoid the shops? often I cook and freeze the same things (chillis, stews, casseroles) and sometimes just dont fancy that so my "Ill nip to the shops" for something inevitably turns into a bargain hunt and I end up with even more stuff than I needed! I need to have more self control!0 -
The jerky is made and should keep OH going for atleast a week!
We had HM fried chicken and beans last night, was really tasty, OH hsa the cooking bug at the moment, shame i'm away till sunday now!
He's got plenty in for dinners and lunches while i am away, and i am staying with family so will not be spending.
I'm taking a pack lunch with me to london to save pennies, so will make that laterAnnual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Hi Deleted_User, I am lucky I don't particularly like shopping. However, I do "discover" previously made recipes in the freezer and taste a bit first. If they are not tasty enough, will alter them in some way e.g. adding herbs and spices, make into a frittata, put in a bread recipe etc. Usually turn out more interesting.0

If I'm eating out of freezer and cupboards then I rapidly start to crave fresh food. The solution is to mix in a trip to the market/greengrocer's so that there's piles of lovely fresh things. I also don't just defrost pre-cooked meals; next week we're eating out of fridge/freezer/cupboards but it's 2 defrosts, one meal cooked with previously cooked chicken, one meal each with mince and chicken breasts out the freezer, one meal each with tinned salmon and tinned sardines, using tinned tomatoes, beans, things knocking around in jars like olives, capers and so on, and all with the fresh veg. All the veg together will cost less than *one* 'nip out to the shops' would.Make £2023 in 2023: (all decluttering), current total £2860 me, £330 for friends & family, £468 charity donations.0 -

Yesterday some space "appeared" in a freezer drawer after using up brussel sprouts and half of the carrot portions. Brussel sprouts always seem tastier boiled and then baked so all of them are now gone. For the carrots, a frittata recipe was made of which there were three variations. Each portion had different herbs and spices to create variety. Consequently, it will not end up in the freezer.0
