Do you freeze bread as a whole loaf or in 2 slice packets? I freeze 2 slices in sandwich bags but obviously those bags cost money! So if I did free the whole loaf is it easy to get slices as and when you need them or do they get stuck together?

And also, some of you guys say you freeze cream and milk which I've never done. Does it affect the quality? I mean does the milk get watery or the cream separate?

    Hi

I freeze the loaf whole and a quick whacck on the side of the worktop or gentle prizing apart with a long bladed knife soon separates them if they're really stuck together. I also end up with about 4 or 5 part loaves that shoved in there when they're geting close to past their best :o

As for cream, I've only ever frozen double cream (and then in ice cube trays so I could get out what I wanted when I want) - it was a little grainy but as I was stirring into sauces to enrich them you didn't notice the texture.

Don't think you can freeze single cream because of the low fat content - someone help me out on that one, please. I've also read of people freezing milk but not done that myself to be able to comment - I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along later that can offer their view :)

i freeze my loves all in one go aswell if i buy reduced i don't freeze homemade bread i just use it when i need it, i've frozen single cream before (again been reduced) but again i only use cream in sauces and soup

i managed to buy 75 bags of crisps today  saying that it was a misunderstanding between me and mil, skips are b1g2f at the mo and have 50% extra free so 45 packs for £2,50 i wanted 2 bags of these and a bag of niknaks but she got me 3 bags of each there all good offers tho and will keep :)

i'm starving wish hubby would hurry up so we can have tea, i froze 2 chicken breasts for a pie/casarole next week

it takes no time at all to fill the freezer but it seems like forever to empty it, mines coming down nicely now

Well £30 budget went out the window....i spent nearly 4 x that amount!! - £40 for OH's beers and some beef which he will pay me back for on Friday though :)

The beef was a good deal, it was £30 of frying steak, but the butcher was reducing the stuff that was on the counter - he got my bit fresh from the back, but put it through at the discount price so saved £10 off it. Will do for about 2 meals plus 2 loads of beef jerky.

No other really good deals, some burgers for £1 and fish for £1.50 but thats it.

I'm away from thursday so just OH to feed, will start again on monday eating from the stores i've got from today.

    Hello everybody,

I'd like to join in please. I have quite a lot stored and sometimes this has been a problem. It would be good to make these stores a positive thing especially now winter is here, a chance to vary my diet and save some money.

Yesterday, used up some milk and "improved" an old recipe from the freezer. Tomorrow, will consider freezer veg recipes.

    hi everyone

Broth today for lunch ( made on sunday ) and made stew tonight with beef from freezer, onions I had, got some carrot and swede last night in asda for 5p :T and had to buy potatoes. When I made the stew it was a bit to watery so then remembered I had some mash on freezer so defrosted it and added it to thicken stew :j

Also took some wheaten bread from freezer to have with stew so really pleased with myself as usually I through everything out lol

Cannot refreeze leftover stew because fo the frozen potatoes but will do for lunch tomorrow.

Two of us! haha no good for caserole/stew as not enough fat on it (according to OH) that was an estimate earlier. We've got a large ziplock full of jerky marinating.

One bit cut off for OH to have stir fry tomorrow and then about 1/2 in the freezer. so will last longer than i thought - PHEW!

Dinner tonight is OH's creation, i know we are using chicken breast and we've not bought anything new in, so all store cupboard stuff :)
