I'm eating out of the freezer and cupboards challenge

Done quite well this weekend and freezer is definitely going down - a couple of drawers I can close quite easily now. :j
Took some pies out for tomorrow (pie and mash/peas) and some sausages to make a casserole for Tuesday. Had a pizza in the garden today as it's lovely and warm and finished off a tub of ice cream. Took out some teacakes to have toasted with a coffee later as I don't feel too hungry today (heat). That's my positives.
I did weaken today as I bought two packs of lamb chops reduced to 99p from £4 - but that was it, nothing else.
Only need bread now and that's basically it to get me through to Wednesday. Maybe have some lamb chops then with some new potatoes.
Keep firm, well firmish.

Today, I have eaten some filled pasta which I purchased for 10p back in Sept with a jar of pasta sauce that must been the cupboard for 14 months as the bb date was next month.
Tomorrow, it will be burgers as I got envious of customers buying burgers for their bbq today.0 -

Have just read through this thread and I am in awe of the way you all seem to get such bargains! I never seem to get reduced stuff - every time I go to the Supermarket there is never anything reduced more than a little bit.
I am doing this challenge at the moment out of necessity - I have just over £1 left to last me until Thursday. I have most things in although have run out of butter and margarine (won't do us any harm!). DD1 is going mad though because she says that we don't have any food in. We do - it's just not the rubbish she likes to eat!
The freezer is fairly full still and the cupboards too - I have rice, pasta, bulghur wheat, frozen veg and meats of all kinds, potatoes, loadso tinned tuna, tinned soup, tinned fruit, pulses of all kinds, tinned tomatoes etc. but what I don't have is frozen pizza, oven chips, bread (other than pitta and rolls), crispy chicken, sausages or bacon and you would think that she was living in a disaster zone and literally starving to death the way she is going on, whereas I am quite enjoying the challenge and so is DD2.
Today I have made tuna sweetcorn salad rolls for packed lunches (with enough left over for me to have a salad at lunchtime), and I am making a cottage pie for tea (DD1 has already said that she won't eat that so I have taken a chicken breast out of the freezer for her). Yesterday I made some flapjack thingies but I didn't have oats only a fairy old packet of ready brek (unopened) and they were a bit of a disaster. I have had to crumble them up and freeze them and will use them as ice cream topping with chocolate sauce I think!
Once I get paid I am going to have to redouble my efforts to find reduced bargains!Jane

recovery spendalholic. its all due to timing. they reduce stuff to silly prices near the end of the day, 7.30-8ish. on sunday my tesco metro reduces to silly prices at 11am. milk goes down to 20p for 2 pintslife is like a loo roll. the nearer the end you get, the faster it goes.0

Bless you Jane, hope you find a way to get the bargains. I'm lucky as there are only the two of us so a few bargains go a long way. As mentioned, on a good bargain day the basis of whole weeks meals can be had for around a fiver. Obviously need to add bits to make complete meals, but the basis is there.
You may not be going at the right times, maybe limited being a small family?? I do it for fun now really and the savings can be immense - they probably get wasted on other luxuries though.
The Lidl weekend half-price offers probably started it off fo me as I started buying the good deals in bulk and that progressed onto buying reduced items in bulk, rather than just the one or two. I then started buying stuff when I already had loads of stuff if the stuff was cheap as I considered it a "investment". So once you have freezers full of cheap stuff, it's just a matter of replacing stuff after using. I really can't remember the last time I ever bought meat at the full price, I really can't. Some stuff I set a price limit on, say never buy decent fresh pizzas for more than 99p, often had for 69p. Lamb chops is another example, never pay more than 99p per pack and it works as I've always seem to have a few packs.
I am trying to run a freezer down and that's mainly to find out what's actually in there and to get rid of the older stuff - I'll then start all over again, hopefully.
Good luck with your hunting.

Hi guys,
gotto join you this week, as went to Glasgow for the weekend and now spent up! Got some cubed beef out of the freezer, and put a stew in the slow cooker, before going on the nursery day out. DD13 hates stew, so a portion of bolognaise will do her.
Only got a couple of squirts of washing up liquid left, no squash, and no SR flour for my HM dumplings. Will have to get this, but nothing else until friday. Need to defrost my freezer, it is a new smeg but gets iced up so fast!!! Good luck to all.0 -
Fail again.
Tescos chilli peanuts. But I'm not eating them, just putting aside for parties. And an aero lamb for 1p but it wa for my little girl so I'm sure that's okay?? Had a picnic at the park for lunch and tea I'm a bit lost. Was going to just do soup but Crikey I think it's just too hot to eat.
If I sit in my freezer for 5 minutes will someone pull me out?!..(/(/

Made my cottage pie for tea and bulked it out with a tin of beans so it has made enough for another meal. Have got 2 beefburgers out of the freezer for DD1 and will make some hm oven chips to go with for her. When I made the mash for the top of the cottage pie I beat in a couple of egg yolks so that it browned nicely and I whipped up the remaining egg whites and made a merringue. I have a Tesco finest yoghurt so am going to mix that with some fruit for the topping for afters.
Now just to get through tomorrow and Wednesday!Jane

oh can i join please? i seriously need help and know i seem to have a completely irrational fear of an empty fridge (and freezer and cupboards if i'm honest).
I would be really interested to find out how old we all are - its something my mum swears i got fom my nan, but complains that, at *cough* 31 as of last week i am too young to be worried!
i am not worried, just cautious.. but it does get silly - my big chest freezer lid is currently weighed down with a 3kg tin of beetroot from approved foods, and i literally cannot squeeze another ice pop into the fridge freezer, so what do i do? go to asda today and spend another £17 on food!!!
I think i really need help!
oh and another weightwatcher here, so will be reading with interest what we can do with kievs, escalopes etc that are both ww and mse friendly!:j:jOk, ok, i need to go back onto Weightwatchers, lost 7 stone..... 2 back on, this has to change.....Help!!!:eek:0
