Must Try to do my freezer inventory! Was put off when I did the pantry inventory which took me hours but did turn up a few nice surprises. :)

I know I have 3 little packs of stewing steak that were reduced ( I buy even the little ones and save up until I have enough for us all) so I shall slow cooker them with some onions and carrots for tonight and serve with some Jersey Royals (reduced to 9p a bag :D) and some steamed veg.

I've some salami to use up so I might make a pizza for tomorrow as I have my SIL for day and have no idea if my sons GF is coming for day, too.

Welcome to MSE jonana, my fridge/s are the opposite really regarding food. Foodwise they are just ticking over with what I need (bacon, cheese milk, marg, salad etc.), so now I feel I throw much less away. They used to get full, but I wasted too much. One fridge in the garage is generally full of drink items and is used to slowly defrost stuff and the one in the kitchen is just for the basics. Freezers and cupboards is a different thing!!!! Though the freezers are now showing a few spaces, so this challenge is starting to work. lol. I do buy offers in bulk, beans, tin tomatoes, coffee, etc, etc, etc, so another area that needs reducing.

Looking at cheerfulness's sig., this is something I'm also considering for July but at a much lesser amount of only £100 (only 2 to feed though). That's just for bought food and not for pub meals etc. which we'll be doing a bit of.

Never spent a single penny yesterday on anything. :money: Good weather helped and the garden is looking pretty. :j

Is it ok if I join in on this? I've just gone on holiday, got back a week ago, so I'm all spent up and owe a load of money, (holiday clothes) etc so I could do with using up what I've built up from the Tesco DTD lol.

Also, I hate it when Asda have loads of whoopsies for the freezer but I have no room to fit them lol. I've been doing fairly well this past week, and as I've only £7 to last me til next week I'm sure I'll do well this week too lol.

I'll try and do a freezer inventory soon. I need to use up some bits that might have been stuck at the back for a while.

I am 65 and was brought up to always have good store cupboard, trouble is its extended to just about every other cupboard as well as unbed, meter box, wardrobe and various chest of drawers as well.

I am not part of the this challenge as I am just about to complete my own (which lasted for the best part of the last year, lol) - the chest freezer is gonna be defrosted at the weekend and then I can, er, start afresh :D

I never used to be a food hoarder - in fact, I used to buy just about enough to see us through the week, and we normally ended up eating out on a Friday night as there was literally not enough in the house to cobble a meal together (Thursday was usually a "fridge clear up meal" night). And I didn't even have a freezer !

Then, a few years back, we had a problem with the water supply in our area (apparently a rabbit died in a pipe or something equally surreal) so we were all advised to drink bottled water only. The OH and I were stuck at work when the news broke out, and by the time I left in the early afternoon, every single shelf of bottled water in every single shop was completely empty. Still, fizzy, flavoured.... All gone as people panic-bought.

And I thought, if the same happens with food, we'd be well stuffed for however long it took to re-establish supply, so I started stocking up, just for my own peace of mind.

Following that, it did not take long for me to realise that stocking up with offers, batch cooking (a big chest freezer got acquired for free somewhere down the line) and freezing home-grown and foraged goodies saved me loadsa money, and here I am, my name is Allegra, and I am a food hoarder :rotfl:

(The difference between our food bill three or four years ago and our food bill now - when the prices are actually so much higher than they were back then speaks for itself - then it was about £400pm for two people and a pre-teen, plus eating out once or twice a week; now it's £200-£250 for all food for three people, one cat, all booze, toiletries and household stuff, and eating out or takeaways is special occasions only).

    BTW, I am 34.

    AAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disaster day. I didn't want to go out and spend today, thought I'd just potter in the garden again, so I decided to bake some bread.
Silly me added an extra 100ml of water and the bread didn't rise and it's sticky inside.
Just hope the birds don't mind too much. lol
Not got any bread flour or Wrights bread mixes in my cupboards.

Need to go out now for some "bought bread", maybe I'll find a shop near Specsavers!!!!!!!!!!!
