nic, dont worry too much about the overdraft, it's not huge and it's definatly not the end of the world, the fact your on here means your never going to let it get out of control, I'd kick your butt before it got a chance :D

as regards the bag, total bargain and obviously a must have item until you can replace it with a chanel or balenciaga creation ;) just make sure and use it till it wears out!

good news on the job situation and as your going to be at your mums for four weeks the outgoings will be mucho reduced! :j

I did apply for another job in a bookshop to get extra hours but they've not got back to me yet so I'm not particularly hopeful on that one. If they do get in touch, then that's good but I'm going to hunt around for another job when I get home tomorrow. As I work in a restaurant on an evening, I get really bored at home. Though I have stuff to do over Easter like:
    - Easter
    - Recital Practise
    - Revision
so its not just going to be a quiet holiday I dont think!
Have been reading some other threads on the board and am going to try and stop all un-necessary spending for a month, see if I can do it :) I'm an impulse buyer, especially if I'm feeing low, so lets see how that goes :)

Had my first shift at work today :) Got £3.50 in tips as well :j as they say, every little helps! I had to pay £4.50 on carparking though, so it kind of cancels it out. But never mind. I'm going to try and add some more things onto Ebay tomorrow, as me and mum are going out for tea (mum's paying!).

Had a great meal out with mum last night and she paid :) so that was lovely. She knows I'm a little tight on money at the moment, though she doesn't know the exact figure.
I'm off into town today to get some essentials from Boots and to pay a cheque in that I got sent in the post from my Grandparents, which is nice of them :) I'm not going to take my cards into town and just take some cash. That way, I cant spend too much! :) I'm going to pop in the bookshop where I applied for a job as I haven't heard anything from them, so just to find out if someone else got the job really. Also going to pop into the bank and get some of the money packets :) i have loads of 1ps to count and bag up!

EDIT: I just logged onto my emails and I've sold a book on Green Metropolis! I only have 4 books listed on there, so quite surprised and pleased. Its only another £3 and I'm not going to transfer the money from there anytime soon, so that's a slow trickle of money. I've sold 2 books on there now :) x

  • Hi Nicola

It sounds like you are doing really well - keep updating the diary!

I know what its like being a student - i am currently in the final year of my PhD and so have been at uni almost 6 years  What year are you in? If you're near the end then well done for staying in so little debt - and if not then well done for making sure you don't fall into the stereotypical student lifestyle!!

While you are home for easter why dont you try get some cookery lessons from your Mum? I'm sure she'd be pleased to help you out. Visit the OldStyle board again too - there are some great threads for newbies. Cooking stuff yourself is an astonishingly good way to save money, i promise! 6 months ago i couldn't cook anything except pasta (and even the sauce came out of a jar!) but now my freezer is full of healthy homemade food and the bills have halved!

Have you had any luck with the music tutoring / PT job?

When i was an undergraduate i worked at ASDA. Obvious drawback is the dodgy green fleece but theres tons of shift options as stores open 24 hours!! They have a good scheme too where you can work at one branch during term time and then temporarily transfer to a different branch during holidays so ideal for people who go to uni far from home.

    Good luck :D

Findingmyway: thanks for reading! I'm in my second year doing music, so I have one year left. Then I'm going to do a PGCE for 1 year postgrad. :) I will ask my mum about cooking actually, she's an excellent cook. I can do pasta with pasta sauce out of the jar! lol :)
Today I'm just staying in. I need to tidy my room and I need to sort out stuff to put on Ebay. I didn't have time to yesterday! so hopefully that might bring in a few pennies. TO be honest, I dont want to have a job during term time as I have lots of personal practise on the piano to do everyday, as I'm doing a performance based course. I went into town and I didn't get the job at the bookshop that I applied for. Bit disappointed, but I've applied for another job in a bakery, so fingers crossed!

Hi Nic - did you manage to change your contact lenses over succesfully? it is so fab that you are dealing with your overdraft now before it gets worse - I am now in my post-grad year, and am paying off a £1,800 overdraft!!! Had I found MSE sooner I would have never let it get so bad. xx
