Their policy does not (and legally cannot) effect your statutory rights as a consumer. Therefore, you should be treated as everyone else. Bet it don't happen like that though.

Sorry oddfellow: while their policy should and does EFFECT your Statutory Rights, it does not AFFECT them, which I think you meant.

Thanks for clearing that one up Ampersand as none of us could understand what Odd Fellow was talking about.

Just like when he says "Bet it don't happen like that though" - do you suppose he means "Bet it DOESN'T happen like that though", per chance.

Quick - someone call the grammar police !!!!! :p

Brought 3 packs of Scottish premium mince this morning pack price £3.00 for 800g but SEL said £2.40 per kg refunded £3.60, 400g packs also mispriced.
  • Went to my local yesterday and picked up a couple of Palmolive Bath Foams which were reduced to clear as discontinued. The SEL said 80p, but I was charged £1.72 for each. Got a DTD refund of £3.68....better than R&R! Think it only applies to the bath foams, not the milk/creme ones. I got two red bath foams.

It does state on the bottom of the blue sign that your statutory rights are not affected. CS will argue the toss but remind them of their obligation.

I had considerable success during the R&R XBox & Game of the week misprice cockup where I successfully returned seven wireless xboxes over a period of a few weeks. I bought them for about £290.00 each got R&R and returned them for a full refund. ie I got over £2k for nothing.

What is the tesco policy when returning an item that you have received DTD on?

I took an item back last week that I'd been given the DTD on and the girl @ cs was very busy so she just scanned the item ( which, of course, came up at full price) glanced at the receipt and gave me the full amount back

Make sure that you go when they're really busy;)

I assume they had corrected the original overprice so the price on the till came up as the CORRECT price, in which case you've been refunded the correct amount.

I know a lot of people regard DTD as a reduction in the price of the item, but as I understand it, this is not the reality.

For example, if something is advertised as £4 and you're charged £5, then you'll get £2 refunded. Most people would interpret this to mean you have now only paid £3 for the item, so if you return the item you should, in theory only get £3 refunded.

But ..... as I understand it, in my above example, you are receiving £1 refund to correct the overcharge and £1 "compensation" for the inconvenience (or you could think of it as a "thank you" payment for informing Tesco of their error and not reporting them to Trading Standards - for which they could get into serious trouble). Therefore the item has actually cost you £4 (ie the correct price) but you have also received a £1 compensation payment. Therefore, if you return the item, you should still get your £4 back (and you get to keep your £1 compensation payment).

Can anyone confirm whether I am correct in my thinking?
