I sent the OP a message a few days ago with regard to boutiques general inability to authenticate. The gist was that most boutiques are terrible when it comes authentication of items you haven't purchased specifically from them and without provenance, particularly vintage items. Chanel are notoriously bad for this. The buyer may well be telling the truth as far as they were informed at the boutique, it doesn't mean the item isn't genuine, it means the SA at Chanel who incidentally has no authority to authenticate anyway, has not recognised it for what it was.

There are independent authenticators who specialise in specific brands who will be able to ascertain whether an item is genuine or not.
This isn't relevent to the OP anymore as the time for the buyer to open a dispute has passed but may be useful if the situation arises again.

So is there a time limit on him making a dispute with ebay or paypal?

There is quite a strict time limit on Paypal, apparently, which means that buyers are usually advised to have concrete proof before opening a dispute, but since eBay put the burden of proof on the seller to prove it's not fake you don't really want to get drawn into that sort of thing.

Usually the time limit on making a claim is 45 days from date of purchase.

Aren't we still in the 45 days?

    26th May + 45day = 10th July or there about.

It takes 5 weeks to do a repair and polish but if they decide it is fake then they would realise sooner than 5 weeks.

Hope it goes well for you Sindy.

Sorry, misread SindyGirl's last post:o Thought she said it was already outside the limit.

OP - ring chanel back and speak to the manager - dont speak to the shop assistants. Tell them the whole TRUTHFUL version - whats the point in making up a lie saying you want a bag polished?!

Ask them the policy on confiscating suspected fake bags - what proof do they give to say they have confiscated? They MUST give a reciept or some form of proof to say they have took it. Find out exactly what they give out then demand the buyer to send a scan copy and provide the info you got from the manager - give the managers name etc

There's a chance that the buyer has just googled the chanel store locator and picked one and hasnt actually been. Did you ask for Louise when you rang the store? does Louise even exist?

I wasn't setting out to intentionally lie, i just wanted an idea of procedure and was hoping that they might say, 'oh by the way yes i have seen an authentic bag with no markings....'...Anyhow im none the wiser - will just have to wait and see!

Also of interest is that i have looked at his feedback - this week he has bought exactly the same bag from ebay (for 100 euros more than i sold for) the seller stated as me that its a genuine vintage chanel, looks identical to mine, made me feel better although i knew mine is real but i wonder if he bought it because he thought my bag was fake or i suppose he could be a collector.

Or more likely a dealer. Pops them both into Chanel having already primed the sellers about possible fakes. Bags are identical therefore he may be able to extract refunds from both sellers if very clever. Please be careful - it never bodes well when a buyer buys an identical item to one currently under dispute.

Ooh just stumbled across this - how did it all end up OP?

Also, I'm not really too familiar with ebay - but why is it the seller's problem if the buyer buys a fake?

Because the seller sold it to them as genuine.

I believe that it's also illegal to sell fake goods.
