That was until I read a review that said the music playback was shocking, is the music interface really that bad?
TBH I probably wouldn't use it for a music player. It's not as intuitive or easy to organise as an ipod/creative. I've got a couple of hundred mp3s on mine and the sound quality is fine (not noticed any difference with my old Creative jukebox), but it is fiddly to have to set up your playlist on your computer rather than on the unit itself.0 -

It's very basic - it just uses an explorer like file browser and there's no way to search by artist or genre etc so if you are coming from an ipod you'll find it very limited.
Having said that I've got 35gb of MP3's on mine and don't have a problem at all with the music player (despite being more used to a Creative Zen) but I do tend to listen to whole albums in one hit anyway.0 -
paultoon wrote:Is anyone else still having the problem mentioned earlier in this thread where during playback of certain video files the unit jumps back to the beginning or forward to the next file about every 15 minutes?
Only seems to happen with certain files, but makes them vitually unwatchable. Anyone found a solution?
Also, during playback is the blue power light meant to keep coming on every now and then? Quite distracting!
Hi, First time poster, long time lurker. Bought one of these and am experiencing the exact same problem as you PaulToon.
Also having problems with certain avi files. It plays some fine but not others, just states "Not supported File Format"
Any ideas? Any help appreciated.0 -

A few of mine avi files said that, I just put them through a converter again and then they worked fine. I used AVStools which is mentioned earlier in the thread.
Haven't had any files jumping at all though.0 -
The unit is limited to the type of avi's it will play because of a lack of varied codec support.
Divx or xvid with mp3 sound are fine @ 320x240 resolution.
Use SUPER to convert to the correct codecs.0 -

pocketdivx encoder is awesome.
dont forget if your unit locks up with a bad avi just use a little needle to the reset hole it sits just behind the lock button just push the reset button
and the unit switches off then turn it back and your back to normal delete the bad avi best wishes.0 -
Hi guys
I have a few rmvb files(real player files) which can't be played on the Grundig. Is there any software you can recommend to convert them into avi or divx files?
Thanks

Allok RM RMVB to AVI MPEG DVD Converter will do the job.0

The blue light represents hard drive activity in this situation (if it's off, it's reading the data from its cache memory).
But, yep, having exactly the same problem as yourself. Going to email Grundig, see if they are going to release a patch, otherwise it's (regrettably) going back. I record programs from the TV, and whilst it records fine, this resetting back to the beginning is something they obviously didn't test !
Have had problems stopping the recording mind you, as you have to press & hold the record button darn hard to get it to stop (maybe just mine, not sure). Resetting back to the beginning of the recordings seems to happen when it does HDD wakeup(which pops up just before it resets), during the movie I guess. Great machine let down by poor (untested) software. The Archos software (albeit ALOT more expensive), puts this to shame. The companies rush these machines out to market, and simply don't test the software thoroughly enough. Expected better from Grundig.0
