Until I see something in writing - i am still worried.
I really don't want to get into a correspondence fight- just to cancel early.
My 14 days grace finishes on the 4th - not sure what to do?
Does anybody have anything more concrete?0 -

ok count to ten ... 1, 2, 3, 4 ...
ggggggggggggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Just called AXA up ...
and they have moved the goal posts - they said it was done because it has been SO popular ....
Hmmm
Might be worth moving this thread elsewhere now - as the offer as is stated on the home page is NOT what they are currently offering ...
You have to pay 6 months fees up front to LA Fitness (ie the rest of the year) ... then you can get your 'free' 6 months gym.
Hmmmm.
Wish I had done this earlier now ... always leave things too long.

Hi,
Phoned up again to double check ...
Got a different person ... he said that the offer hadn't changed - but some gyms would ask for 6 months fees to be paid to take it to a year ... I asked which ones - he said he didn't know - they wouldn't as they were just axa ...
so I questioned how the other person told me i WOULD have to pay the 6 months fees up front - without asking me which gym ... I asked him to check ... he went to check ... and came back about 5 mins later (thankfully it was a free phone number) ... to say that - yes it was all changed now ... you now have to pay 6 months membership to LA Fitness and get 12 months gym ... but only if you stay with Axa Insurance ... which probably makes it MORE expensive than getting gym membership alone ... d'oh

Does this only apply to people who have set it up after a certain date??? If so does anyone know the date when this applys?
Mine was set up 23rd December and I have just phoned to try and find out when to expect my gym membership to start. The bloke on the phone said within 14 days of when the 1st payment is taken which is set to be 17th of Jan! Means im going to have to wait probably around a month just to get the gym membership up and running!!! :mad:0 -
I've been contemplating whether to take up this offer and the last few posts have made up my mind, especially the one about them passing your details on to a credit control company,I'm going to give it a wide berth.
It's not a good deal unless you intend in stick within Axa for it's insurance.
It'll been misleading. It'll be interesting to see if MSE members start a new thread in six months time about AXA pchasing them for a cancellation fee. Let's hope not.Third time lucky on WW I hope :j

surely everyone will just cancel their insurance and AXA will lose money if they dont honour the gym deal without having to pay 6mths up front0
-
I had to phone LA Fitness to chase them as they didnt' contact me. My gym knew nothing about the offer but had to honour it when I showed them the web page. They let me start straight away and didnt' ask for any money (yet!). So far so good! Will let you know if I get a bill down the line!0

I spoke to AXA this morning for clarification and the girl (Lily) I spoke to said she'd heard conflicting things about the LA Fitness offer yesterday and put me on hold to speak to her manager....
...she then said that health insurance could be cancelled at any point (providing no claim had been made) and wasn't a 12 month "contract". The gym membership would be a separate arrangement with LA Fitness but she didn't know how the contract would work with them and suggested I spoke to them directly. She couldn't even give me a number to call them though!
It sounds like it's up to LA Fitness how they want to deal with the offer but in the past I've been given the hard sell from them and they were insistent on 12 months being the minimum contract. I haven't phoned them yet and would imagine they'd only answer a question if I came down and took a tour of the facilities as is always the case (they never seem to publish rates or joining fees!).
I get the impression that AXA wouldn't be much help in the event of a dispute when cancelling after 6 months with LA Fitness.
I'm tempted to stick with my current gym to avoid any hassle in June!0 -
I have phoned AXA twice and both times they have said that you have to pay LA Fitness 6 months up front - then you get 12 months of gym ... so 6 months free ...
Both times the person taking the call checked with their boss0 -
Pay 6 months Gym Membership up front?!
This will be £270 for my local LA Fitness - if this is the case then the whole promotion is a scam - there is no mention of this in their blurb or the T&C's.
MSE did not introduce me to this offer - I was quite happy with the quote for health insurance in its own right and would have been happy to stay with AXA.
Not now - I shall cancel on principle - it's sharp practise.0
