  • Has anyone managed to acertain whether the policy can be cancelled withn the first six months?

According to the AXA terms and conditions:
The free LA Fitness membership will be cancelled if the AXA PPP healthcare policy is cancelled at any point in the first six months of membership.
  • I just rang up again and it took a bit of legwork to get a straight answer but essentially they said it is a 12-month agreement, however, if you do not make an insurance claim within 6 months and then choose to cancel the policy, in their own words "we would not chase you for the remaining payments due".
  • I went ahead and signed up but my monthly payment is £25.46. I am however 43 non-smoker and don't drink too much. I guess the age thing costs more. Still the cost is less than half a membership at the Waldorf Astoria LA Fitness (5 mins walk from work)

Regarding the cancel policy, AXA were evasive and stuck to their 12 month agreement. You do get a 14 day cooling off period which will give me time to review the cancellation policy over the Xmas hols.

I will review and post if I find something in the T's and C's

If this works, then off my backside and a healthy start to the New Year.

    Merry Christmas all.
  • According to the original article:

"After the initial six months offer runs out, the gym membership cost will shoot up to the regular price; but it is possible to cancel at any point without further charges (as long as you are paying monthly). Those in it just for the gym; cancel the policy before the seventh payment is taken and you’ll have nabbed six months of very cheap membership."

So it looks like you don't have to stay for 12 months otherwise it wouldn't be a moneysaving tip!!

    Hi all!
I'd just like to let you know about my experiences with LA Fitness. It may not be relevant as the deal I signed up for wasn't through AXA loophole; however it's worth taking note of.
I signed a contract with LA Fitness for their £30/month deal; having explained to the staff member that I was only living in the area for 6 months, had 6 month accommodation contract etc, and I was assured I could cancel with no problems if I wrote a letter explaining why. However when it came to it; the club did not accept my letter, or the terms of the verbal contract agreed. They treated me as if I'd just stopped payment. On numerous telephone calls I was given different information; I wrote 4 letters explaining I'd moved, with my new address, and never got a reply or acknowledgement. At one point I was told I could cancel if I paid a £100 cancellation fee. I felt I shouldn't have to pay that, as it wasn't mentioned during the initial discussion. After much correspondence on my part, my case was put to a credit control company - in the end I had to pay £185 to settle the case. (I didn't want to get a bad credit rating as I'm hoping to get a mortgage next year).
I feel very disappointed and let down, and would advise anyone hoping to take up this offer to read ALL the small print very carefully - if it's not in their contract, LA Fitness won't do it!

Sorry to be so negative, and I hope it does work out for anyone taking up this offer.

benjus, i was thinking the same thing... my job already provides private medical insurance, but I would like to sign up to the axa/lafitness loophole solely for the gym membership... any insurance experts out there who can tell us if this would cause any negative issues?

Don't think there should be any issues from this pov. There's nothing wrong with being insured twice for something, it can come about as an innocent mistake e.g. thinking your cover ended a couple of days earlier than it does and arranging new insurance from the earlier date. It just means that if there was to be a claim the two insurers would split the costs so you can't be better off from it.
  • Where would an existing LA Fitness member stand for this offer?
I cant see that i would be able to take advantage of this but would like to be proved wrong!
Im only in month 3 of a 12 month contract with LA fitness
  • If you are just signing up to get the gym membership does the information you supply to get the quote still have to be strictly 100% accurate if you've got no intention of making a claim anyway?

Obviously if you told them you had not been to the doctor in the last 12 months (but you had) and you made a claim they would find this out and void the claim I guess.

Can any legal/insurance experts confirm if it is fraudulent or illegal to do this or would this only be the case in the event of making a claim??

I'm not legally qualified, but I am pretty sure it would be a deception offence (Theft Act 1968), "obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception", that is you got the cover at a cheaper price than you would have had you told the truth. I doubt it would matter that you didn't intend to make a claim or keep the cover, it would probably be impossible to prove this anyway. In a way the pecuniary advantage is also the cheap gym membership.

Either way, although it is unlikely you would be found out if you didn't make a claim a theft/deception offence is not something you want on a criminal record, it would disqualify you from all sorts of jobs and activities.

  • Is it too late to go for this if I sign up tomorrow?

I can't see anywhere to choose the Assure 6 option, it just has a PDF of information on the online quote thing but nowhere to choose that option.

Anyone signed up and had a call from LA fitness yet? Im still waiting to hear from them. Want to get it started asap. Has anyone tried contacting LA fitness instead of waiting for them to contact you?

    Hi,

So if I sign up as an 18 year old (£13.60 a month) but am really a young looking 25 year old ...

If I never claim on the insurance ... will I 'get away' with saving £7 a month ... and have all the gym related fun I can ?????

And how long after sign up does it take to get your LA membership through ????
